Chapter 499

Chapter 499

Once again, the rain poured heavily throughout the night. Millie left the operating room at 8:30 am.

Instead of going back to the emergency department, she chose not to face her family’s disappointed expressions. With nowhere to go, she took refuge in the M Base.

Marvin asked anxiously, “Boss, how’s your grandma doing?”

Millie looked around the electronic facilities in M Base and thought about Layla. She couldn’t help but laugh. All these devices were developed by those researchers who dedicated their entire lives to research.

“Boss, you….” Marvin was panicked. He was genuinely frightened by her laughter.

Drew brought a glass of water to Millie when he came over.

Millie gazed at the pair before finally managing to speak with a hoarse voice, “I’ve tried my best.”

She did everything she could. She had brainstormed many ideas with Sebastian, but Layla was very old, and her injury was severe. In the end, they were only able to keep her arm.

Meanwhile, the news was announced right at the entrance of the hospital’s emergency room. Arthur’s vision turned dark, and he collapsed onto the chair.

“Dad!” In an instant, the emergency room entrance was in chaos.

Layla’s right hand became immobile. From the initial coldness to the eventual purple discoloration, Millie witnessed Layla’s arm deteriorate irreparably.

She had always believed in her own abilities and the advancements of medicine. However, it wasn’t until she heard the words “I tried my best” that she realized their undeniable weakness.

Marvin was incredulous. “Boss, you can’t cure it either?

“She’s just human, Marvin,” Drew retorted softly.

Marvin was left speechless. Deep down, Millie was viewed as someone capable of anything, willing to make selfless sacrifices for love..

“Why are you here alone? How’s the situation over there?” Marvin asked.

Millie sighed. “Uncle Thomas and my dad are there. They should be able to cope with it.”

Millie was worried about Layla’s reaction after she woke up. Although Layla was old, she had always been healthy. However, this accident and subsequent surgery could undoubtedly have a negative impact on her well–being

“Perhaps she doesn’t want you to leave. It’s just too much of a sacrifice,” Drew remarked casually.

“Brat! You’re being too emotional at your age.” Millie forced a smile.

Marvin noticed that Millie was feeling sad. He comforted her and then went out with Drew.

Millie needed to rest, so she should be left alone and in peace. She had been through a lot lately. After all, she was still young, just in her 20s.

Marvin closed the door quietly. He refrained from sighing in front of Millie. Only when he stepped outside did he finally release a deep sigh. The situation was extremely disheartening.

Marvin shook his head and sighed once more. “I honestly don’t know how I would cope if I were in her shoes.”

Drew also sighed. The two young men exchanged a sigh as they walked. Yvonne, who had just returned, was bewildered and asked, “What’s wrong with you two?”

The two sighed again in response.

Yvonne was stunned and thought they were strange.

“Is the boss here? I just saw her entry record. I’m going to see her now.”

Just as she was about to hurry over, Marvin and Drew swiftly seized Yvonne’s arms from the left and right, pulling her away.

Yvonne was confused. “Stop!”

Millie checked the news about the car accident on her phone. She noticed that Layla was the most

severely injured. Samuel was in the same car too. However, he had only minor cuts on his arm with some glass fragments stuck in it.
