Chapter 53. Dimitri's Penthouse
Konstantin
When I know Lily's in a deep sleep, I slink out of bed, get dressed and meet Kai downstairs. He got a call from Dimitri a few minutes ago saying he remembered something and couldn't tell us over the phone.
I walk out, see Kai waiting next to his Maserati, and we hop inside. “Any idea what he could have seen?” I ask, and Kai shakes his head.
“Not at all, but he sounded freaked out over the phone, so it can't be good,” He says as we leave the estate.
"Always something,” I mutter and breathe out a sigh.
Lily and I just had the best make-up sex, and now I have to leave her side. Things between us arent 100% cleared up yet, but the fact that we spoke about things is the first step. Marle’s interference in her mind and recovery helped a lot, too; I could see the self-confidence in her eyes again. That sexy confidence always got my cock hard whenever we used to spar.
"Good evening?” Kai says with a smirk, and I can't help but smirk back.
"Great fucking evening,” I say and shake my head. “Pity we have to be out here, but I'm sure “Mitri wouldn't have called us for nothing.”
Kai nods. “I fucking hope so.”
We reach the underground parking and make our way inside the elevator to Dimitri“s penthouse. I can't help but get a shiver up my spine when we go up, and when I look over at Kai, I see his eyes have turned crimson.
The doors weren't even opened properly, and Kai sprinted out, shouting Dimitri's name. “Fuck!” I exclaim when I recognise the scent of blood is everywhere here and leads us to Dimitri's study. "KON!" Kai roars in the direction I was going in, and when I open the door, I nearly barrel into Kai's back, but I see why the scent of blood is everywhere: Dimitri has killed someone again.
"What the f...." I trail off, and my eyes widen when I see a shirtless Dimitri cradling the head of a petite blonde girl... a human, by the scent of her blood. She had slashes all over her face and chest, and he was trying to stop the bleeding with his shirt. “Dimitri?!”
“I don't know what happened!” He exclaims and looks up at Kai and me with wild eyes. “When I got off the phone with Kai, she rushed in here with this in her hand.” He says, picking up a silver dagger and dropping it when it stings him.
A very fucking familiar looking dagger.
Kai walks over to Dimitri on the floor, and I follow him, but then he leans down and touches Dimitris arm. “She's still alive, and I've called Marle, who should be here soon-"
“You need to do something!” He exclaims, grabbing Kai's arm and looking up at him with desperation and fear in his scent.
Kai nods. “We'll try our best, “Mitri, but she’s human, and her pulse is fading, so we'll do our best but can't promise-"
"She's my mate, Kail” He exclaims with tears in his eyes, stunning both me and Kai. “She's my mate, but I attacked her as soon as I caught her scent!”
"What?" I ask with a frown, knowing that this girl is toast if Marle doesn't get here soon. “Your mate?”
Dimitri nods with tears streaming down his face. “My wolf recognised her as my mate!”
A human and a wolf? I've never heard of that EVER happening in our world. I mean, old Dmitry Volkov tried to ignore the mate bond by staying with his human wife, but that's about it.
“Wait,” I say, remembering what Nova told me a few weeks ago, and I start searching her pockets until I find her wallet.
Kai growls. “Kon, what the fuck-"
“Nova told me the name of Dimitri“s mate a few weeks ago; her name is Arya. That little librarian knows the names of all the Volkov mates.” I say; then I flip open the wallet, and I know that Dimitri is telling the truth: her name is Arya Falcone.
I hold up the wallet to show them; at the same time, Marle rushes into the office.
"Please give me space,” she says, and all three of us get up and stand off to the side with our eyes on the witch. Nothing about this witch shocks me anymore, not even when the slashes on Arya's chest start to close.
Kai crosses his arms and pinches the bridge of his nose. “So the moment you recover your memory, your mate is sent in here to kill you.” He says and looks at Dimitri, who shakes his head.
"She was under a spell, her eyes were completely white, and she moved like she was being forced to.” He says and sighs. “I have a feeling this is a punishment from Father; the way I reacted was as if her scent made something snap inside of me.”
Fucking hell.
“Then that means we don't really know who our father is, do we? Do we know anything about his family and whether they're warlocks or not?” I ask.
“We don't, but there might be something in the vaults,” Kai says and smirks. “Good thing only the Alpha and Luna can enter the vaults.”
“You're not scared they'll try something with Cat and the others?” I ask with wide eyes, but Kai shakes his head.
"Caterina has been training herself these last few months. Yes, I am still highly protective over her since she is my mate, but I know that she will not allow herself to be reduced to a victim again.” He says with pride in his voice and a puffed-out chest.
I can't help but laugh at this. “Christ, that little ballerina has really changed you,” I say, but Kai only flips me off before turning to Dimitri.
"What did you discover?” He asks.
Dimitri's eyes were still glued to his mate. “Father is looking for a necklace, or rather the black pendant on the necklace. It's called The Obsidian Teardrop and apparently used to belong to Xamnir's father before being given to Dmitry Volkov after he turned the first time.” He says.
Kai sighs and bites his thumb. “The pendant was stolen when they came back from the war; why would he be looking for it?”
He then looks at Kai. “To create a new bloodline of wolves and demolish the Volkov line along with a new Alpha blessed with Xamnir's gifts.” He says matter-of-factly.
“It's done,” Marle calls from the floor before Kai can react to that little bit of news. “She's okay but will be knocked out for a couple of hours.”
Dimitri runs over to Arya and Marle and scoops her up in his arms. “I'm taking her to a spare room,” he says and walks out.
Marle looks at the two of us and breathes out a long sigh. “Someone bewitched that girl's mind, but I broke it. She should be fine when she wakes up, but she won't remember much. Whoever did that made sure we cannot trace it back to them.” She says and crosses her arms.
“Not even you?” I ask with a smirk, but she shakes her head and smiles.
“Not even me, but whoever did that is an experienced witch. It might even be an Ancient even though I know I'm the only surviving one, thanks to Goddess Tiarin.” She says, then looks at Kai. “I'll speak with you tomorrow, Alpha. Apologies, but I overheard your conversation about the Obsidian Teardrop.”
Kai frowns. “Okay, but I'll have you know that someone stole the Teardrop a long time ago.” He says, already steeling himself for another bomb.
And it comes in the form of a smile from Marle. “The one stolen was a fake and is currently in the diadem atop the female Alpha Azura’s head. The real one is hidden in your vault and requires the eyes of a true Alpha heir of Xamnir's to find it.” She says and walks out.
“Always something,” I murmur again, and Kai lets out an exhausted sigh.
“Always something,” he repeats, and the both of us walk out of Dimitri's study, knowing another issue will become a major one.
