Chapter 24. Rogue Alpha
Konstantin
Kai and Cat are spending the evening with Nova so that I can head to this meeting with the Rogue Alpha in peace. I don't know what to expect, and to be honest, I hate this; too many things are happening all at once, and it's pissing me off.
Now I wonder what is in store for me with this fucking Rogue. What does he want from me, and why ask for me and not Kai?
I suppose that I won't know unless I meet him, so here we go
Placing my helmet on top of my motorcycle, I walk inside and can already catch the unknown scent of Rogues inside. I round the corner and spot him immediately; how could I fucking not?
He's tall, with a broad build that lets me know he's fought for his position; he has dark hair, short and faded and long on top with the piercing blue eyes of a Rogue. Not only that but there's a scent of True Alpha on him.
This actually makes me want to know his story.
I walk up to him, spotting his two Betas on either side of him. They look at me as if I'm the enemy and the Alpha growls at them to submit.
“You must be Cain,” I say and hold out my hand, which he takes and shakes firmly.
He nods. “I am; thank you for agreeing to see me, Konstantin,” he says, and I blanch at the tone of his voice; gruff, like something happened to his windpipe. The ugly silver scar at his throat doesn't exactly answer my question; instead, it makes me wonder how he got it.
“No worries; will your Betas be joining us?” I ask, gesturing to my office at the back.
Cain shakes his head. “No. As a measure of good faith, they'll be waiting right here.” He says, then gets up and follows me.
Well, this is a first; usually, Alphas want to be surrounded by their Betas when they're in unknown territory. I'm not sure if I should take this as Cain, meaning he can take me all by himself or showing he trusts me.
We walk inside the office and take our respective seats.
"Before we start, I just want to apologise for encroaching on BloodCrest territory like this. But please know that I wouldn't have come if I didn't require your help.” He says, the roughness of his voice still catching me off guard.
"Apology accepted. Let's start.”
He breathes. "A few weeks ago, I got wind that you were looking into an old wolf pack from DC; one that was taken out by a rival pack and slaughtered.”
I nod. “Yes, The Silver Sun Pack. Their Alpha was one of legend and his mate one of the most powerful witches of her time.” I say, then frown. “How do you know I looked into their past?”
Cain sits forward and laces his fingers together on my desk. “Because Alpha Caesar and his mate, Camilla Black, were my parents.”
My eyes widen at his admission. “What the fuck did you just say?” I ask, “As far as we know, everyone was slaughtered, and their only daughter was taken.”
He nods. “Yes, they slit my throat and left me for dead, but one of the witches took pity on me and nursed me back to health. When I was strong enough, I killed their entire coven for the part they played in the demise of my father's pack.”
I look at him incredulously, not knowing if I should believe him or not because if it's true, that would mean that this Rogue Alpha is Cat's older brother.
“The reports mention nothing of Alpha Caesar having a son,” I say, baiting him. “How old are you anyway?"
“I'm twenty-six, but it doesn't matter. I asked for your source not to release that to you until the time is right, and that time is now.” He says, then levels me with a gaze.
"Why is that?” I ask with a scoff, wondering what the fuck will be revealed to me now.
Cain runs his fingers vigorously through his hair and sighs. “I need your help, Konstantin. This pack and your Alpha; you're the only ones who can help me get revenge on the man who sold my father out to his enemy and took over his territory.”
"Who is this Alpha, and from which pack? We can't just help you, especially if we have a good standing with a pack.” I say, knowing that I won't take him up on his offer; well, not until I hear what's in it for me, anyway.”
“The DawnGuard pack who now own one half of DC along with the Hellfire Horsemen who own the other half. I have intel which shows that the Alpha is gearing up to take out Alpha Ryker within the next few weeks.” He says, then sits back and crosses his arms.
“The current Alpha of DawnGuard is the son of the man who betrayed my father.”
“Hold on,” I say, holding up my hand. “Why would we help you, especially when we have a good accord with DawnGuard? What would be in this for us?"
Ryker would appreciate the intel, though, and perhaps this will make them take my calls now.
He smiles. “In return, I will do all the dirty work you require of me, even if that means killing innocents - something I know your pack wouldn't touch. I'll be your mercenary; my entire pack will be at your beck and call until I can recover the territory which is mine by birthright.”
/“Kai, get your ass over to Fang right fucking now.”/ I call over the link and tune out his questions afterwards.
“I've called my Alpha, the one you should have spoken to about this in the first place.”
Cain grins deviously. “The reason I came to you is that I know you need intel on Stefan Russo, and I just so happen to know where he’s moved his prisoners to.” He says.
Anger grips my chest, and I get up from my seat, stifling a growl at his words. “What the fuck did you just say? How the fuck did you know that?” I ask, knowing my eyes have turned silver at the mention of my mate.
Cain holds up his hands and stands up. “I'm a mercenary, Konstantin; people call me up to do all kinds of dirty shit. But when one of the prisoners turned out to be a heavily pregnant Lilith, the one I've spoken to so many times right in this bar, I knew I had to come to you with this. She was your second in command if I remember correctly.”
"She's also my mate,” I say in a growl, watching as surprise edges into his blue eyes.
“Your mate? So that child..." He says, and I nod. I didn't have to say much because I catch the anger in his scent when he realises what he’s helped play a part in.
"Fuck! If I knew, If I fucking knew that, I wouldn't have-" Cain stops and trails off when the office door opens and stiffens but doesn't turn around. I look past him and see Kai, but my brother didn't come alone; he brought his mate along.
Wrong fucking move right now, brother.
Cat looks even worse than before, her belly swollen and face gaunt as if she hasn“t been eating or sleeping properly. This pregnancy is taking a lot out of her; how the fuck is she still standing, and why did she come along?
I look into Cain's wide-eyed, confused face as he takes in what must be a familiar scent to him. “Wanna know the reason I looked into The Silver Sun pack? She's behind you,” I say.
Kai looks at me and raises an eyebrow when I say this, and frowns. “What is this about, Kon?" he asks.
I walk around my desk and look at him, but Cat walks past me and towards Cain, who still hasn't turned around, before I can say a word.
"Why do I feel like I know you?” she asks softly, taking in his scent. I see him sigh, and when he turns around, a hand goes to her mouth as she stifles a scream. “Who are you? Why do I know you?!”
Kai walks to her and places his arms around her; one look at Cain and his overprotective beasts threatening to come to the surface yet again. “Answer her,” he says in a low voice tinged with anger. Cain looks at me, then back at Kai and Cat. To say he's surprised is putting it lightly. “My name is Cain, and I think you're my little sister.”
I'm in a fucking soap opera, I swear to God.
