Chapter 37
"What do you mean?" I ask stunned, At the same time a guard goes behind holding me.
"Let me go, you can't just arrest me without telling me what's going on, I have no involvement whatsoever with Riley you all will be sorry by taking me away" fighting the guard's grip on my hands. The one who seems in charge raises his hand stopping them.
"We found these in your room " The guard waves the tiny bag of herbs in my face, one I've not seen before.
"Anyone could have put it there. I just occupied this room this morning, how the hell does Riley's baby co-relate with a bag of herbs?"
"Well herbs were found responsible for Riley's miscarriage these will be checked out all before then we're just carrying out orders if you have nothing to hide you won't have a problem of being detained before you stand in front of the lycanthrope council," he says emotionless.
"I'm being framed here isn't it obvious?" I beg as the guards push me to the door.
"Lock her up" He says solely not waiting to see if his orders had been carried out.
I fought, kicked, begged, and screamed but they still dragged me to the cage, tossing me inside and locking me in without sparing me a glance.
They lock me in the cell along with a prisoner who was clipping his fingernails.
Having no other option I sit on my b**t praying for a miracle.
"Open the cage" I never thought I'd ever be happy to see Jaden.
"Jaden" I literally scream jumping to my feet.
He holds out his hand halting me in my tracks, his face scrunch in hostility.
"Really Hailey?" He says tiredly.
"Jaden you got to believe me I have nothing to do with her child"
If I believe you or don't is not in question the one time my father and the lycanthrope elders are in the house this type of stunt is pulled off"
My stomach wrenches as I feel my blood turn cold. If Lord Perry is in the house I'll be dead even before my trial starts.
"You slapped her really, Hailey?"
"She slapped me first" I say, rolling my eyes.
"Will you stop being a stubborn bitch for once and think logically"
"You openly threatened her child and also impacted her violently and now the same herbs that have been found in her tea were found in your room. Who the hell is going to vouch for you Hailey?"
"If you came here to tell me about my status update, thank you I don't need a preview," I say, hugging my arms around myself.
"I came here to help you"
"No Jaden you've helped enough, Riley only hates me because of you and you're the reason I'm back in this house "I know it's not fair for me to blame him I also had a fair share of fault in this but I'm at the verve of breaking I'm scared to the teeth with no way out this time.
Jaden's brows knit together in puzzlement.
"You're right," He says with a sigh running his hand through his hair.
"I'll find a way to get you out of this mess, please forgive me if I let you down," he says, genuinely concerned, pulling me into his arms and I let him comfort me momentarily like he always does. Kissing my head he pulls away, staring at me sadly.
"If this is the last time i'll see you I need you to take this" Reaching for his pocket he pulls out the butterfly emerald necklace, I laugh out as a teardrop.
Turning around to let Jaden pull it on.
"It looks better on you than on the shelf," he says sadly, a ghost of a smile on his lips.
"I bet it'll look great when I stand in front of everyone taking my punishment" I say smiling as the tears flow.
Jaden doesn't say anything, giving my hand a light squeeze as he leaves.
And there you have it the story of Hailey Stewarts, the ill-fated girl who lived a tragic life, the good ones always get punished for the deeds of the bad.
A while later I hear the hinges of the cage open.
"Hailey your trial is starting"
It seems they can't wait to get rid of me.
Walking out of the cage each step goosebumps flare on my skin knowing I was one step closer to my death.
We head to the arena, looks like they need a large space to occupy the mass of people who want to see me dead.
Upfront seven people are seated in their middle lord Perry I'm guessing the lycanthrope council.
A shiver runs down my spine as I make direct contact with the man's ice-cold glare. I make a decision not to look at him again.
Situated by the side is Jaden, he gives me an encouraging sad smile, and more than ever I can feel him engulf me, his scent giving me the strength to go through this without breaking down. Then not too far behind I see Riley sobbing into the chest of Shane and being comforted by maids.
I chew the inside of my cheek feeling Jaden telling me to calm down any irrational decision that will cost me my life.
The fact I'll die anyway almost makes me rush to her side and gag her till she confesses she's framing me.
I scan the arena looking for Nisha and Elijah or a friendly face but I don't see them.
The arena is void of anyone to affirm for me, we should call this off already and move on to my elimination.
Only Jaden is here for me and his opinion will be ruled out by the council. I've seen it before history is repeating itself.
I could hear my father's voice
"The truth will reveal itself" As a swear to the moon goddess today that's not my plea.
If there's any justice, if she truly exists I won't be killed.
"Looks like everyone is here" Lord Perry says silencing the crowd.
"May we begin."
