Kill or Be Killed (#1 Eastern Werewolves Pack Series)

Chapter 4: Jaxon

This was his sister’s idea of brother-sister date after a tea-party date—shopping for the things he didn’t even know she would need. But for the good of himself, he allowed her. Jain had done many favors for him especially getting rid of a certain someone. It wasn’t his fault the women in his pack were throwing themselves to him. He was single, an Alpha and wealthy. But sometimes, he wished a woman wouldn’t look for such things in him. He wanted someone who would look at him like a human being he was. Not because the power and wealth he had.

Jaxon grabbed the trolley and followed Jain as she kept reaching for things and dumped them into the trolley. Watching and taking care of his sister had always been his responsibility. She didn’t live with their parents in the villa. Jain had been living with him in the pack mansion since she could walk. Basically, Jaxon was her second father figure in the family and he knew how much she looked up at him. In her perspective, he was her hero. And he wanted to keep that reputation. He would damn the man if Jain ended up with a douche-bag of a mate.

“Peanut, why you needed all these?” Jaxon pointed to all the snacks and chocolate bars in the trolley.

“They’re for my friends,” she replied excitedly and dumping more snacks into the trolley as if the previous ones weren’t enough.

“Are you feeding an entire country?”

“They’re like you. Always eat a lot.”

Jaxon snorted. Jain always knew which button she needed to push on him. Sometimes, his sister could get personal with him. Like the other day, she complained about the woman who came into his office. The ten-year-old had the audacity to say the woman’s chest looked fake and would burst on his face. He had a hard time maintaining a straight and stern face on Jain on that day.

Fast forward, Jaxon watched as the red Range Rover reversed from the parking lot. He kept an eye-contact with the driver before the car moved down the street. As soon as he turned around, a smile made its way on his lips. Damn it, after all these years, he had finally found her.

Her five-foot-seven body was smaller compared to his mountain of muscles body and six-foot-six height. But that what made this perfect. Even without hugging her body, Jaxon could already see her body was a perfect puzzle piece to his. Her strawberry scent almost caused him to nuzzle his nose on the crook of her neck just to inhale all of her scents. The way her big black eyes blinked at him, he was a goner. He could drown in her eyes and damn, he would never try to swim to the surface.

“Zia,” he mentioned her name. “What a beautiful name.”

“Alpha, we have a problem,” Seth’s voice appeared in his mind link.

“What problem?” Jaxon asked as he made his way to his truck and hopped in. “Buckle up, Peanut,” He told his sister.

She fastened her seatbelt as he reversed the truck.

“Hanson is dead,” His Beta replied with sorrow. “His grandfather found his body at the back of their workshop. His wound showed his attacker shot him twice.”

The Alpha stopped reversing the car and sighed. “I‘ll be there as soon as I could. I have to send Jain home.”

“Got it. We’re securing the perimeter.”

“Peanut, you’re staying with mom and dad today, okay?” Jaxon glanced at his sister. “I have something to do.”

“Is it bad, Jaxon?” she asked softly as if she could hear what Seth had said in the mind link.

He didn’t know how to break the news to her. Hanson was his third-in-command and basically Jain’s best friend too. They were close. He took care of her while Jaxon had other matters to attend.

His hand tightened on the steering wheel as he could not answer Jain’s question. He couldn’t tell her. It would break her heart. How was he going to tell one of her best friends died? How was he going to tell her favorite uncle wouldn’t make it to her 11th birthday or any of her future birthdays?

The rest of the drive to their parents’ villa was quiet. Jain didn’t question why or what was going but Jaxon knew he had to tell her. He pulled the handbrake as soon as they reached their parents’ driveway.

“Peanut…” he turned to look at her as she unfastened her seatbelt. “Your uncle Hanson had passed away.”

Her mouth trembled as tears flowed down her eyes. “But he promised to watch a movie with me!”

Jaxon pulled her up and wrapped his arms around her small body as she cried hard on his shoulder. Never had he felt his heart broke this way. Hearing the cries of his sister for losing her friend, was the most painful thing ever.

“He promised!” Jain was getting angry despite the cries. “He promised to decorate my birthday party!”

He opened the door of his truck and got out, still holding Jain firm in his arms. Their mother, Clara, opened the front door and her eyes showed she had been crying too. Hanson was like Jaxon’s brother. Three of them; Jaxon, Seth, and Hanson were the troublemaker trio in the pack since they were diapers. They were inseparable. Losing one was like losing a flesh and blood of his own family.

He set his sister down on the porch before kneeling down to meet her height and cupped her face, “Peanut, be strong for Uncle Hanson, okay?”

“I want him back.” Her voice cracked. “I want Uncle Hanson back!”

Jain ran into the villa. Her cries echoed as she made her way up the stairs. In a minute, he heard a door slammed hard. Jaxon straightened his posture, facing his mother.

“I’m so sorry, honey.” She hugged him tightly. “Find who did this to him.”

That was certain. He would hunt down the killer even until to the end of the world. The killer had taken his friend away from his family and pack. Payback was certain but fast death wouldn’t be Jaxon’s choice. He would make sure the killer felt every pain they had caused to his sister.

“I will find them, mom,” He replied with a clenched jaw. “I promised.”
