Chapter 15: Zia
It had been a day since she last saw him. Jaxon had been sending multiple texts to her but none was replied. Zia locked herself up in her bedroom and ignored the questions came from her parents on why Brody and her weren’t in good terms. Of course, he didn’t mention a thing about him cheated behind her back. She forgot about him as soon as Jaxon appeared in her life but then it changed when she found out he was the killer of her twin brother. Samuel was just twenty when he got killed along with Brody’s father. It felt like it was just yesterday Zia received the news of her brother’s death. They used to be inseparable until Joshua pushed Samuel to join hunting. Samuel wasn’t a big fan of killing anything. He loved animals too much and wouldn’t kill them even if they posed a threat to him. In the family, Samuel was the only one who didn’t show any interest in their family business but as the son of the family, he was forced to carry the family business until his tragic death.
Zia tossed around in her bed, unable to find the will to get out and socialized with her family. Laura checked up on her a few times since yesterday and Zia almost lost her mind. All she wanted was to be left alone to her thoughts. She needed a space to think. Ever since she found out that Jaxon was a werewolf, her mind never stopped questioning her. He could have killed her but he didn’t. He could have kidnapped and tortured her but he didn’t. Jaxon could have done many bad things to her but he didn’t. She wanted to ask him everything whether he ever feel regret after he had killed her brother.
She grabbed her phone and dialed his number. As much as she hated him, she missed him terribly. She didn’t know why she missed her brother’s killer. It didn’t make any sense.
“Hello,” Jaxon’s voice came from the other end.
Why did he sound so broken right now?
“Jaxon, it’s me,” Her own voice almost betrayed her again. She shouldn’t feel this way for him. “Is everything alright?”
“Zia baby, hi, I didn’t check the caller ID earlier. Everything is okay. What is it, baby?”
She could have melted at the way he called her baby. It sounded so right on his lips.
“Can we meet in one hour? I want to see you.”
“Of course, I can meet you at the park if you want to.”
“Sounds perfect, I’d see you in one hour.”
“Alright, see you later, baby.”
She hung up and stared at the ceiling again. She shouldn’t drown herself in her bedroom. If she wanted to hear him admitted that he really killed her brother, then she must brave herself to get the truth. Joshua and Laura never gave the detail of the Samuel’s death. All Zia knew was that he was killed by an Alpha. She didn’t know if the same Alpha killed Brody’s father too but she was going to find out.
For the first time, she went with her own plan. Zia didn’t like sitting around and waited for instruction. That never sat well with her.
She got out of her bed and went to have a shower. At least she needed to look decent. She didn’t want Jaxon to feel suspicion on her before she could get the truth. If he was really an Alpha, then his men weren’t be that far. From what she knew, Alpha rarely traveled alone without some sort of backup. The backup could be anyone in the park. She just had to put her guard up.
After done getting ready, Zia came out of her bedroom on the same time Brody came out from his. He looked disheveled and she could care less as she made her way down the stairs and headed straight to the garage to avoid her parents who were in the living room. She had thirty minutes to reach the park and luckily, the traffic was that bad. She arrived in twenty minutes and parked her Range Rover. As she made her way to the park, she started to feel alerted but kept her face calmed. Jaxon was already there and sat on the bench with his arms crossed his chest and his head hung low as if he was sleeping. Zia couldn’t believe that this man was the killer of her brother. From afar, Jaxon looked nothing like a killer. He looked like the perfect lover and everything that a girl could have asked for in her ideal man.
He looked like a mess though. He didn’t shave and his hair was messy.
“Jaxon?” Zia shook his shoulders.
He made a soft grunting noise before opened his eyes and smiled, “Hey, you’re here.”
She sat next to him, almost at a very good distant if it wasn’t because his arm pulled her closer to his side. Suddenly, Zia lost the logic of her mind. She forgot that she was sitting next to her brother’s killer because all she could think of was how good Jaxon smelt like. His arm wrapped around her waist as she rested her head on his shoulder.
“You look tired,” Zia pointed out as his thumb made circular motion on her hip.
“I was busy lately, barely could catch any sleep.” he replied. “How about you?”
“Same but I got enough sleep though.”
He chuckled softly before he brought her hand to his lips and placed a kiss on her knuckle, “I’m glad you had enough sleep. How was it going with your ex?”
“Kicked him out of my room.”
His body tensed a little bit. “Is it over then?”
“Why? Are you going to ask me out for a date?” she teased him.
“Are you going to say yes if I ask you out?”
“You’d never know if you’re afraid to ask.”
Jaxon laughed and turned to face her, “Okay then. Zia, would you like to go out with me?”
“Yes,” she responded instantly. “When?”
“Soon,” he gave her a thinking expression, “I haven’t think of place to take you but I would take you out sooner than you think.”
Zia placed her hand on his cheek and looked into his eyes as she searched for the truth or anything that could scream that he was a killer. But what was difference between the two of them? She was a killer too. They were doing the same profession.
She leaned forward and captured his lips with hers. She wasn’t supposed to do this but she had a little control of what she was doing. Maybe she could use this as her advantage to find out more.
