Chapter 50 Extreme Joy Begets Sorrow
It didn't take long for Camel to find out the truth. When he brought the evidence to Baron, the latter was furious. "Son of a bitch! I never thought a department head would accept bribes and the figures are huge What is worse, she has leaked the secrets of the company!"
Baron was sitting at his desk, flicking through the rest of the papers. Moments later, he said with a sneer, "we can totally put her into prison for the next ten years, with these papers alone."
"Chairman, do we hand it over to the police now?" Asked Camel warily. He stood by the table and guessed Chairman's next step. But, to his surprise, Baron put the papers in the trash!
"No, it's not the right time yet. She just got the bonus, so she is about to throw a dinner party tonight. The bitch insulted Tracy in public today, so, putting her in jail would have been too kind. She needs to pay more for that. Do you have any thoughts?" Baron said angrily.
After a few seconds of puzzlement, Camel soon took Baron's hint. "I see! You mean... The faster she rises, the harder she falls."
"You got me!" Baron said and a slight smile broke on his lips.
Apparently, Rosie was unaware that the great danger was coming. She was intoxicated with excitement all day for her 100,000-dollor-bonus. Everyone surrounded her and said congratulations. She became the center of attention.
After sending the message, Tracy had very confidence that Baron could manage it, because he was the man that bought Samho. She put her work away, because she had to make enough preparation to take over the manager position.
She was the founder of Samho and spent many years in there, so she actually knew a lot about the business.
If she hadn't been bullied by Rosie, she could get the position on her own. But things were getting chaotic in Samho now.
Considering the circumstances, she had to get the position in other ways. Or else, Rosie would squash all of her dreams Tracy did believe that she had the ability to be the manager and erected the situation. "Did you hear the news, Rosie? The headquarters has made a decision about the manager position, and they will announce the appointment by the end of today," a well-dressed woman told Rosie. "Really?" Rosie asked, with a cry of surprise.
The woman nodded her head. "Yeah, of course! Rosie, you are perfect at your job, the bonus is the proof. Whoever gets that position will just value you!" Answered the woman, with a smile.
On hearing these words, Rosie suddenly felt a trace of exultation. "I hope so. I will show the new manager my ability."
"Well, I'm sure you can do that." The woman said and went away.
The news of the appointment of the manager position spread quickly throughout the company. And everyone waited to see who the lucky one was, except Tracy. She was sitting at her desk, busy with her work Many years ago, Tracy had been ambitious to build the company. And now, she had this energy back. She set about reorganizing Samho, including development plans and the management of employees. She spent months working at the bottom, and this experience made her know the company more than before. She believed strongly that she would steer the company to unprecedented levels. "Look at that bitch! I'm really curious why she is so busy?" Rosie talked to her colleague, pointing at Tracy.
The colleague glanced where Rosie was pointing. "She is nothing but a clown! Look! She is acting like she's still the chairman of Samho! I guess she has not yet adapted herself to the miserable situation." Rosie sneered and motioned the colleague to follow her. "Let's go and see."
When they walked toward Tracy, the latter just finished her work.
"Tracy, have you heard the news?" Rosie asked.
"I'm not sure what you're referring to," Tracy said, frowning.
"That's ridiculous. The new manager is about to take office! But you knew nothing about it!" The colleague said sarcastically.
"I guess she was just acting. After all, she was once the chairman of Samho. But now, she is nothing! So, who's more upset about this news than her?" Rosie said with a sneer.
"Anyway, I understand why she was so upset. The higher they are, the harder they fall. This is a sad story," agreed the colleague.
"Not only that, she married a jerk and gave him a girl. And worse, she was dumped." Rosie continued to insult Tracy.
"Wow! I didn't know. That's so funny," the colleague laughed.
Seeing that, a crowd of colleagues gathered and entered the conversation, talking about Tracy's pathetic life.
Tracy's eyes roamed over their faces, without another word. Their faces were so disgusting.
To everyone's disappointment, when they were ready to get off work, the appointment was still not announced. But there was another piece of good news.
"I will throw a dinner party in Spring Garden Restaurant. Make sure you all come by then," said Rosie happily.
"Hurray!" Everyone cheered.
Just then, a black car stopped at the gate and a middle-aged man got outside, with a folder in his hand.
Blaine, the vice manager of the company, walked quickly towards the middle-aged man. "Nice to meet you, Stephen."
"Sorry I'm late. I was held up by heavy traffic. Is everybody still there?" Stephen asked.
"Yes, they are waiting for you! And please come in," Blaine said respectfully.
"Blaine is coming this way! We'd better sit back," Rosie reminded everyone.
When Blaine and Stephen walked into the room, they found everyone looking at them expectantly. "Everyone, we'll have a meeting very soon! I want all of you in the conference room immediately!" Blaine informed and went to the conference room with Stephen.
Once they departed, there was an outbreak of muttering at this.
"So, now it's clear the appointment will be announced soon! Why isn't the new manager here yet?"
"Would it be Blaine?"
"No, no, no. It can't be true. I have never heard of it."
Stephen's appearance created a flood of debate, and no one noticed that Tracy had left the crowd.
When everyone was in the conference room, Blaine and Stephen were already in place. Beside them, there was an empty seat for the new manager.
After making a short opening remarks, Blaine invited Stephen to announce the appointment.
Stephen made his announcement, "We have decided that the new manage of Samho would be-" He cleared his throat and continued, "Tracy Perry! From this day on, Miss Perry will deal with everything in the company! And now, Miss Perry will make a speech! Welcome!"
All were astonished by the words! They were so familiar with the name "Tracy"!
"Tracy, the new manager? That's impossible! There must be a mistake," Rosie said. She seemed very disappointed.
"Maybe they just share the same name! It can't be our Tracy! Hold on a second! Miss Perry is on her way here right now," the man beside Rosie soothed.
"You're right. She can't be. She's just a fucking bitch!" Rosie looked very hard at the door, wondering who the hell was there?
The click of high-heels drew nearer and nearer, making the pounding of Rosie's heart seem louder.
Tracy appeared, which surprised everyone!
Rosie's face was white. "It couldn't be true!" She murmured.
Tracy went straight and sat down next to Stephen, ignoring Rosie's expression. She gave a brief speech, from which many employees, particularly those who had worked here for many years, saw signs of hope.
Of course, some were disappointed. Until the meeting was over, they still couldn't understand or accept the appointment.
"Miss Perry, Wait!" Rosie hurried to catch up with Tracy.
Everyone stopped and looked at Rosie. She had insulted Tracy in public today. So, everyone was kind of wondering how she would deal with the situation.
"What's the matter?" Tracy said coldly.
"Miss Perry, I'm planning to have a dinner party in Spring Garden Restaurant tonight and it would be very nice if you could come," said Rosie, smiling, as if she had a great relationship with Tracy.
Tracy gave her a cold, contemptuous smile. "Sorry, I'm not qualified to your party. Because I should go home and start cooking for my jerk husband," she said and went off.
Rosie stared after Tracy, a spasm of panic flashing across her face. She managed to hide her anxiety and donned a look of smile. Then she turned and looked at her colleagues, said, "it's about time. Let's go to the Spring Garden Restaurant together."
"Sorry, it just occurred to me that I need to go out with my husband."
"I can't go anywhere, because my parents have come over."
"Me too, Rosie! I have to pick up my son from school."
They were looking for excuses to decline the invitation. Rosie had offended Tracy, who was now the manager. They should keep distance with her or they would get sucked into the conflict. Suddenly, they all heard police sirens in the distance and not long afterwards, a police car parked at the company's gate. Two policemen got out of the car and went straight to Rosie. They showed their IDs and an arrest warrant. "Someone told us that you took bribes and leaked business secrets of the Samho company! Please come with us for the investigation."
