Chapter Chapter Twenty Four
Joshua arrived at Flint's office as the Alpha was getting off the phone with his father. Elijah and Skylar had a good working relationship, and Flint hoped that could be of use. Duncan informed him of the attitudes of the Eve's family members. As expected, her disappearance had an effect everyone.
Becca was heartbroken and she didn't know what to do. Ben had been silent about everything, even to his mate and his son. Skylar felt responsible. He was Eve's Alpha when she'd been mated with Flint. He'd sent her to Green tree expecting the Dolan's to take care of her. Now she was gone.
Eve's older brother, Jay, was at a loss. He had all the power that being Alpha of GraySky provided. He had used that power to search the entire valley for her. His warriors had kicked in doors and, at one time, even made the human news. Those ignorant to the supernatural thought the GraySky wolves were a gang of criminals.
The searches eventually stopped; there was no where else to look. Still, the rogues that lived in the valley felt terrorized by this. Alpha Jay had made some enemies, therefore so had his pack. He was frustrated over the lack of results. He was angrier about the secrecy of StarLight's efforts to find Eve.
Flint sighed and shook his head as Elijah entered the room. His father seemed different that the last time he'd seen him. He looked more content somehow. Flint smirked. Apparently going to see Selena had done Elijah some good.
"What do they know so far?" His father asked.
"They know the rogue commander's name is Anderson. His full name wasn't given. They know he took Luna Eve. They know she isn't in the valley. They've been told we're looking and following our own leads. Nothing else." Duncan answered.
"That's good. Now we just need to decide how much more they need to know." Joshua nodded.

Graham had returned from the valley a little earlier than he expected. He thought he was going to spend a few days with his mother, but now he seemed to have more important matters that needed his attention. As he walked down the main street of GreenTree, he looked around.
It had been getting colder as winter continued to rage. Graham hated the snow. He always had. The Beta duties were already on his mind again as he crinkled his nose and shook some white slush from his boot. He opened his phone to call for an update on the warriors.
"StarLight Dispatch." A bubbly female voice greeted him.
"This is Beta Graham Monroe. I need a report on current statuses." He replied.
"Yes, sir. One moment." The phone played some out of season holiday music for a moment.
"What's your code, Beta?" The voice returned.
"B-Omega 2." Graham answered.
"Thank you. I have those reports for you. What are you looking for?" She asked.
"I want to know what's happening now, and tonight. Anything different?" He responded calmly.
"No, sir. Right now, there's a notification of a border crossing. We have some visitors from Green Tree. They were expected. All patrols are still on schedule. Nothing alarming to report." She answered.
"Tell me about the visitors." His interest had been peaked.
"The Alpha, Beta, and an Elder just passed the second gate. They were directed to see Alpha Flint at headquarters. That's all I have here." She replied.
"Thank you for your help." He grimaced.
"Of course, Beta." She smiled.
Graham said goodbye and got off the phone. He climbed into his car and went to the third and final 'gate' into Green Tree. There were three checkpoints on every road coming into town. These checkpoints were called gates and the last one, on the way in from Acres, was several miles from the arena.
Graham parked beside the road and climbed out of his car a few minutes later; at an intersection surrounded by trees stood six warriors. They were lined up, blocking the entire street. The Beta approached an explained that he was there to greet the Alpha family. They accepted this without question.
It was part of his duties as Beta to handle the conflicts that existed outside the Alpha's purview. Anything outside the pack, such as other Alphas and their issues. The fact that the Adams hadn't spoken to him to tell him they were coming, or anything at all, told him they were among those that didn't trust him.
A shiny, silver SUV pulled to a stop in front of the line. The Beta nodded, sending one of the warriors to the driver's side window. After it rolled down, Graham looked over the people inside. Alpha Jay was driving. His sandy blonde hair and glowing, sapphire blue eyes were enough to announce that he and Eve were siblings.
His father was in the passenger seat. He had the same color hair as his son, except for the gray that peppered through his kempt goatee and sideburns. The icy fire in his gaze spoke outwardly about his frustration. Skylar, Ben's older brother, sat in the back seat. His hair was darker than his relatives but his gaze was just as piercing.
Graham waited for the warrior to nod at him before approaching the vehicle. Jay looked at him with a kind of aloof aggression. It was as if the Alpha didn't know why Graham had bothered to come meet them.
"Alpha." He greeted him politely.
"Check the list. We're on it." Jay replied in a flat tone.
"I know you are. I've already approved your clearance. I hoped to escort you to HQ. Once there, we'll have a chance to talk." Graham smiled affably.
"We know the way." The Alpha replied.
Graham hesitated to respond. He was careful not to let his smile falter.
"Jay..." Skylar met his gaze meaningfully.
A few seconds later, the leader exhaled heavily. He met Graham's gaze again, displaying his power without a word.
"Alright, Beta. Lead the way." Jay eventually stated through clenched teeth.
Graham went back to his car and the warriors moved out of the road. As he drove, he contemplated how best to sway the suspicion of those around him. Still, he knew that only time could fix the things his father broke. That included the trust people once placed in the Monroe family.
After parking in the lot, he held the door for the trio. They passed him by and approached the desk. Blair, the Alpha's assistant, was standing there with the secretary. It was clear that she had come to greet their guests.
"Hello. Alpha Flint is expecting you in his office." She stated in a kind tone.
"Thank you." Ben nodded to her.
Graham gestured to the elevator, walking over to it and pressing the button.
"If there is anything I can do to help you or your family, please just call." He extended a business card to them.
There was no need to explain what they might need help with. Jay ignored the Beta, while Skylar took the card from his fingers.
"Thank you." He nodded to him.
The elevator doors opened and they entered it. They got off on the third floor and approached the Alpha's door. Graham knocked on it in a calm manor, as if he'd done it a thousand times before.
"Come in." Flint's voice emerged.
Graham opened the door and looked around. Duncan, who had held his title while he was away, had been invited. He was just a commander. Yet, Graham knew nothing about the meeting. He covered his emotions expertly, meeting Flint's gaze.
"Alpha Jay, Beta Benjamin, and Elder Skylar; to see you." He stated.
"Thank you. That'll be all." Flint answered in a stiff tone.
Graham nodded. He closed the door once the three men entered, leaving himself on the outside. He knew that Flint didn't trust him. He also knew that he probably never would. Still, Graham left the building with calm steps. If the Alpha wanted to be distrusting and devious toward him, Graham would be happy to return the favor.
