Chapter Chapter Thirty Four

Flint had been on a mission to find the creeping sedum tea. The greenhouse in Sumpter, where Rose Lawler once purchased it, had closed down four years prior. He had sent a tracker to the location, hoping to find the sedum still growing. However, a grocery store had been built in the green house’s place.

It was frustrating but Flint knew the information that Rose had given him would be helpful to him. After all, it was her same advice that helped Bastian to find the tea. Before leaving Alberton, Flint was assured by the Lawlers that, in exchange of Onyx’s guaranteed safety, they wouldn’t tell their adoptive son about the Alpha’s visit.

Flint continued sending trackers to search the area around Sumpter. He looked for greenhouses that could carry the plant, but he found nothing. It was hard to sleep, eat, or simply sit in place. Flint paced around his office again with the video stream of the cliff on the television. Eventually, he sat on the sofa and rested his head backwards. Exhaustion eventually creeped over him, carrying him to sleep.

Flint’s dream began like a memory. He remembered the Alpha tournament. The bruises and bite marks, as well as the feeling of the pack’s power once he’d won.

However, Eve’s belief in him was what stood out to him the most. When they got back to the house, it no longer mattered that Flint was tired or that his muscles ached. All that mattered was her. His mate. His Eve.

Flint threw her onto the bed and pounced on top of her. He kissed her deeply, running his hand along her outer thigh. The texture of her leggings weren’t nearly as silky as her skin. He gripped the waistband of them and pulled them off of her feet as he stood.

Eve watched him stripping his fresh clothes away and allowing them to fall onto the carpet around his feet. She sat up and pulled her hair over her shoulder to unzip her dress as he pulled his clothes off. She let the fabric fall from her shoulders as Flint grabbed its skirt and pulled it off her legs. He gazed down at her, her sun kissed skin was beckoning for his embrace.

He lay himself swiftly on top of her. Her flesh was heating him to the core. He tenderly bit her neck, feeding the fire between them while his mate stifled a yearning moan.

Without further heavy petting Flint slid his hips between her legs. Caressing her core with his hardness. She arched her back, allowing him just inside her. He teased her opening with his manhood, making her bite her lip and groan. She wanted him, and that alone turned him on.

He finally plunged into her, stirring her insides roughly. Eve cried out with pleasure as he gripped her hips and pulled her into his every thrust. A hungry growl resonated from his chest when she curled her legs around him, exposing her soft inner thighs to his hips.

Electricity crackled between them. With every movement of his pelvis, the power of his thrusts grew. Flint could feel her pleasure as she clung to his shoulders. Instinctively, he pulled away from her and flipped her onto her stomach before grinding his shaft against her.

She arched her back again, giving him the opportunity he needed to dive back into her hot center. Eve shrieked as Flint ruthlessly pounded his hips against her. The tightness of her grip on him seemed to be pulling him deeper inside her. He pulled her hips off the mattress and bent over her.

Flint felt his mate’s pleasure growing, she was drawing closer to climax. He smiled as he began to slow his movements, sending chills up her spine. She threw her head back and moaned loudly. Eve reached her peak and couldn’t help but scream out. The overwhelming wave of pleasure burst through her and washed over his every nerve.

As she clenched her muscles around him, another surge of electricity coursed through his veins. The pressure that had been growing in the deepest part of him exploded, releasing with it all the stress and worries of the days past. He kissed her back, tasting her sweat on his lips.

He fell onto the bed beside her. She rolled onto her back and wrapped the sheet around her. She heaved a breath, trying to cool herself. Eve looked at Flint with passion clouded eyes. He could see the redness of her cheeks fade as the excitement began to ease away. He simply felt like he couldn’t help but look at her.

Eve suddenly stood from the mattress. Flint raised on his elbows and watched her with furrowed brows. The events happening around him felt suddenly unfamiliar. The Alpha got off the bed and approached Eve, who stood with her back to him.

“Eve? You okay?” Flint reached toward her shoulder.

“Nothing is okay!” Eve growled in an animalistic voice as she spun quickly to face him.

"Eve-" He rushed to hold her but she jerked away from him.

The sound of her bones cracking and her wolf growling accompanied her transition. The black wolf lept onto the bed in a frenzy before breaking out of the house through the window. Flint shifted and followed her. He jumped out of the window behind her without hesitation.

The white wolf howled for her as she disappeared between the trees. He darted after her, chasing her. She seemingly vanished into thin air. Flint stopped running to anxiously examine the area around him. He didn't know where he was, the forest looked unfamiliar.

He heard a snarl nearby. Flint raced toward the sound but he froze in place at the sight before him. Eve's back was facing him and she was growling angrily. Her jaws and fur were covered in blood. From the sight of human body in front of her, she was devouring him.

Little thing. He tried to reach into her mind.

Blood. Death. Meat... More! More! Kill it! Eve's wolf clearly couldn't hear him over her own mania.

The sound of her inner thoughts startled him. Flint wanted to move closer to her but movement from the edge of his vision caught his attention. A gray wolf with hauntingly dark eyes approached her casually. The red flecks in his irises shined with happiness at the scene in front of him.

Flint ran at him but the wolf didn't move or back away. He simply glanced at the Alpha indifferently. The white wolf growled, the sound rumbled through the space between them.

Little thing! He called out to her.

She won't answer you. Bastian's wolf had a gruff, gravelly voice.

Shut up! Flint snarled.

The Alpha ran to his mate, circling her. She continued eating the meat in front of her, as if she didn't see him. Flint nudged her shoulder with his nose, trying to get her attention. Eve immediately snapped her jaws at him.

Calm down! Flint replied sharply.

She didn't listen. The black wolf jumped at him, baring her teeth. Confusion, anger, frustration, fear... Flint felt like he couldn't breathe. He awoke from the dream by leaping off the sofa. His clothes were drenched in sweat, evidence of the nightmare he'd just experienced.

This dream was different than the ones he'd shared with Eve. In those, he knew that she was there with him. Tonight, it simply felt like the world of memories absorbed him before twisting into something darker. The tea made wolves aggressive. He noted that as he went to the bathroom to wash his face.

Flint thought the cold water would help to wake him. Yet, he couldn't get the image of Eve's bloody muzzle out of his mind. Killing someone was something Flint could deal with. He'd done it plenty of times. He'd even helped Eve through it, when she'd killed Randy Taylor.

Yet, to turn on Flint. To growl at her mate and progress at him as if he were mere prey... It was nerve wracking. The Alpha was afraid that she had been drinking the tea for too long. Her wolf could be going rabid. Flint told himself these were just fears. He tried to convince himself of that.

Still, something about the way Eve growled at him that 'nothing is okay'... He believed that was how she felt. He felt it, himself, when she said it. Flint was alone. Eve was being held hostage. Their pups, and her life, were in danger.

Whether that was all a dream or some kind of warning didn't matter. Flint knew the vision of Eve was right; nothing was okay. Nothing would be okay until he could save her. He watched the cabin for a few minutes before turning to the window. Flint felt his chest tighten as he noticed the weather. It was snowing.
