Chapter 26 Best Friends
We’ll always be best friends
I said and I meant it
before I knew parents can
be so cruel
Across the back alley,
one girl with four brothers
we found each other
where they were building
a house upon a hill of dirt
The snow was perfect
The slope just right
skidding down it
an absolute delight
Four years old
we clutched each other
differences didn’t
matter,
she was short
I was not
Two different cultures
tied in a friendship knot
From there we were inseparable
might as well be twins
And when her father decided
to move
The tears we shed twined down
cheeks touching
as we shared our
pain
I’ll never forget you
I’ll come back to visit
But our parents
didn’t see eye to eye
the break
it was complete
I mourned the loss
six years together
I haven’t had another
I trusted quite the same
And as I grew
I still knew
I had to say the same
We’ll always be best friends
I had to try again
