Inner Woman Volume 2

Chapter 11 Bee Garden

With every shade

blue, cyan, violet and purple

Mexican sunflower’s golden yellow

hyssop, thyme and mint

the bees and butterflies

adorn the flowers

and sweet scents

soothe the spirit

hummingbirds flit

darting jewels

bees compete

for nectar sweet

and herb pots stand

chives in bloom

as the thrumming whir

of stubby wings

drone the ancient rhythm

of beehive heaven

Indian paintbrush

glimmering red

black eyed Susan’s

Echinacea cornflower purple

Hollyhock spikes

Larkspur blue and

Lupins in every hue

Yarrow white, bee balm fuchsia

Asters ivory, in front of

Phlox pink height

Taller yet the hibiscus hedge

pineapple sage carmine

Betwixt and between butterflies flutter

shimmering prisms of pollen

from one to another and back again

From snowdrops in spring

into autumn’s bright zinnia

busy bees

gather more

herbs than the

snip of scissors can shear

in the depth of

winter’s sleep,

an herbalist’s skills

heal all of our ills

with honey laden tea

from the bee garden’s

bounty

under the Linden tree’s

bower
