Chapter Independence 286
Chapter 0286
“Hans, let me help you tie your tie,” said Ingrid.
“Heh… I’m wearing a black shirt today.”
Ingrid paused, looking puzzled. “I know that.”
Forget it. Hansel gave up. He thought there was no point in continuing the conversation when they couldn’t even agree on simple things.
A black shirt with a mixed–color tie, really? Only someone with her sense of style would come up with that combination.
Hansel brushed her hand away. “If you can’t do it right, you don’t have to do it at all.”
Without bothering to see her reaction, he walked away.
That evening, Hansel finished work and left the office.
Hé sat in his car, lit a cigarette, but didn’t start the engine for a long time. When the cigarette burned down, he stubbed it out, then finally drove off.
Not wanting to go back to the mansion, he drove aimlessly along the river, circling a few times. Midway through, Evelyn called him, but he didn’t answer.
Before he realized it, he found himself at a familiar street corner again. And once again, he got scolded for parking poorly.
“Damn! Think you’re all that just because you drive a Maserati?”
“There’s been a lot of fancy cars in our alley lately, huh? Didn’t we see a Pors… Pors…. what’s it called?”
“Porschel”
“Yeah, yeah, what’s going on here?”
At 8:00 pm, Miranda came downstairs to take out the trash, right on schedule,
Hansel watched her from behind his windshield, greedily taking in her presence.
Today, she wore a blue floral maxi dress; her hair had grown longer and it was cascading softly down her back. She wore flip–flops, looking effortlessly relaxed and carefree.
He got out of the car, ready to approach her, but suddenly, someone stepped in his way.
Paul said, “So we meet again, Mr. Johnson.”
“Step aside!”
Seeing Miranda about to head back upstairs after taking out the trash, Hansel panicked.
Paul stood his ground, watching Miranda until she entered the apartment building, before shifting his
Calvin rolled his eyes. “Zach, could you tone down the gloating for crest
“Oh?” Zach blinked innocently. “Is it that obvious?
Calvin sighed. “What do you think?
“Alright, alright, I’ll dial it back.”
“Hans, don’t mind him. He just likes to run his mouth, Calvin sad grating the bottens sour another drink.
But before he could, Hansel suddenly reached out and covered his glass
“Hans?” Calvin asked in confusion. Even Zach locked up from his cozy soot
Hansel said, “No need. Just one glass is enough.”
What? What did he say?
Calvin took a moment to process it before setting the bottle down and this on the you?
“Was I a big drinker before?
“Of course! Is that even a question?
Hansel remembered how Miranda used to look at him with worry whenever the came home runk and how much he used to despise her nagging
Now, no matter how much he drank or how drunk he got no one would ever look at him with that mur of anger, frustration, and concern.
“Hans, why are your eyes red?
Hansel cleared his throat. “This wine is harsh on the throat”
Calvin raised an eyebrow. “Really? It’s fine to me.”
Zach’s eyes darted around, but he chose not to comment instead, he playfuly pinched the woman beside him.
“Ow! Gosh, Mr. Graham… she giggled. “Come on, let’s have a drink.”
Zach laughed, leaning in to plant a kiss on her “Sure, but you’ll have to feed me. With these “he pored to her lips, which immediately drew a round of coquenien laughter
The more Hansel listened, the more imitated he felt
Calvin, too, was getting tired of Zach’s shameless behanor. Just then, his phone rang
“Hello, Miranda?”
