The incident with Miranda had caused quite a stir back then. Lionel and Mindy even went to Elgerson City, but when they returned, they wouldn’t say a word about it. From the rumors she heard, the truth wasn’t far off.

It seemed Miranda had given up on her studies for a relationship. Her ex was reportedly well–off, which explained why she was willing to quit her studies just to keep him.

Lionel and Mindy couldn’t help but frown.

However, Miranda remained calm. “No, we’ve broken up.”

Jenny chimed in, “I heard rich people have high standards. He was probably just playing around with you. It’s naive to think otherwise. People like us don’t usually get into high society.”

Jenny continued, “A woman’s reputation is important. After all these years, didn’t he offer any compensation?”

In movies, wealthy men often gave generous breakup settlements worth millions of dollars. By that standard, Miranda hadn’t done too badly.

However, Jenny couldn’t help but feel envious that Miranda had managed to get so much money so easily.

After all, Miranda wasn’t an extraordinary beauty. It seemed unfair that she received such a fortune so easily, especially when Lionel’s family was benefiting from it too.

Miranda looked up with a sharp gaze. “Aunt Jenny, what kind of compensation do you think I should have?

“Money, Jewelry, that sort of thing… Jenny said.

“Enough!” Lionel slammed his hand on the table and stood up. “Jenny, we’re family, but I expect you to speak more respectfully!”

Jenny stood up as well. “What’s disrespectful about it? I’m just concerned for Miranda.”

“Is that your idea of concern?” Lionel asked.

“Lionel, what are you implying?”

Mindy stood up and squeezed her daughter’s hand. “Jenny, Lionel’s point is simple. Your comments are rude, inappropriate, and unfounded.”

Jenny was surprised by Mindy’s directness. Mindy was usually soft–spoken, especially around George and Anna.

But this time, she was firm.

Seeing that Lionel and Mindy were united and that she was clearly in the wrong. Jenny kicked Harold beside her and said, “Are you just going to sit there? Aren’t you going to do anything while I’m being attacked?”

Harold simply shrugged and continued eating. Quincey chose to ignore the situation as well.

Anna slammed her fork down and glared at Lionel. “It’s Christmas, and you’re still at it? Jenny only said a few things that weren’t exactly pleasant, but she had a point. She meant well. Do you really need to make such a big fuss over it?”

Lionel looked hurt. “Mom! Did you even hear what Jenny said about her own niece? How can you side with her?”

“Jenny’s words were harsh, but she made a point,” Anna said. “Even regular couples get some compensation after a breakup, so it’s expected to receive something from someone wealthy like those from Elgerson. If they don’t offer anything substantial, it feels like Miranda’s been used for nothing.”

“Mom, Mimi is also your granddaughter. How can you speak of her like that?” Lionel’s face was red with

anger.

Mindy was on the verge of shouting, but she took a deep breath and turned to Lionel. “This meal has become unbearable. Lionel, let’s go home.”

She had always been patient with Anna and George. But when it came to Miranda, she couldn’t stay silent any longer.

“This isn’t just unbearable; it’s downright cold–hearted!” Lionel declared. “Mindy, Mimi, let’s go!”

With that, Lionel left the table and walked out with Mindy and Miranda.
