In Reach?

Chapter Epilogue

One year later

Noah’s POV

Ever since the war last year, things have become very peaceful among wolves and other supernaturals.

We haven’t even had a random rogue attack this whole year. After all the stories of how the Blood Rose Pack led the wolves to attack and defeat Dahlia and her minions, we have become more feared than ever.

The council somehow kept their end of the bargain, and wiped out the other campsites. I still don’t know how though. There weren’t any bodies in sight, but only the smell of blood.

After what happened to Liam, I had to take over and run things. Our alliances with the other packs are still intact, and so have the vampires and Alex’s hunters ensured continued friendship with us. Because of that, the council has been on my ass constantly, trying to get me to have the whole pack agree to an official alliance with them. But I refuse. It’s not what Liam would ever want.

After that night of the attack, Liam went into a deep sleep, almost like being in a coma. A lot of healers said his body would eventually give in, but Aiden kept treating him. He refused to let Liam go.

The council was even pressuring Aiden to step up as Alpha, as he was technically the next in line. But even though he has alpha blood, he and his wolf spirit are not of alpha nature. He prefers to remain as the pack doctor and to help them the way he knows how to.

Aubrey and Alex have moved in together in a small studio apartment in Toronto. Aubrey wanted to finish her degree and Alex was apparently happy to follow. I don't like the idea that my baby sis is living with the guy, but she already marked him, so I guess I have no say now anyways. But I do wish them all the happiness. I haven't seen my sister this happy since she was a kid.

Mason and Rachel are practically running the training sessions with the warriors like some power couple. But he's extra protective of her now, especially since she's expecting his pup, and due in a couple of months. They even worked out a whole exercise plan for her, to make sure she stays fit during and after the birth, and of course to make sure the pup is healthy.

Nina really made me work for it, as she gave me the cold shoulder for months. But she eventually said yes, -to me 'courting' her. She later confessed that she had to put me through all this because she already knew of my past with the ladies. And apparently she was insecure and shy, because she was still a virgin. Two months ago we finally mated, and I marked her as mine forever. Sometimes she scares me with how strong willed and serious she can be, but then I see just how gentle and fragile she also is. A year ago I never would have pictured myself saying that I'm in love with a witch. But she is already my life.

Seven months ago, Liam one day just woke up. But he wasn’t the same anymore. He looked……..different. He immediately got up and started asking about pack business. It’s the only time he ever speaks, - when he talks about pack affairs and asks for reports.

He hasn’t once mentioned her, and neither does anyone else dare to. He’s been handling pack affairs like this for the past seven months, working non-stop like some robot.

I think it’s his way of keeping himself distracted from thinking about her for as long as he can. I know because I’ve seen him. Sometimes at night, he wanders the house as if looking for something. But so often I find him in the library. That’s where he usually manages to fall asleep.

But I’m worried that if I leave him be, things may get worse than they already are. One day I scraped up the courage to ask him what he does at night. He was reluctant, but he told me, - he sometimes sees her wandering around the house. He thinks that she’s looking for him. So he wanders the house too, to wait for her when she comes looking for him again.

I don’t know what to really think of this. I don’t know if it’s all in his head, or if their bond is so strong that it can cross the borders of life and death.

One rainy night

I wake up startled at the sound of loud thunder. But now I’m too awake to go back to sleep. So, I walk down to the kitchen for a glass of water.

But as I reach the bottom of the stairs, I see the back door open, as rainy wind blows through the hallway. Making my way down the hall to close the door, I notice the library door open.

“Mira?”

I stop as I hear Liam’s clear voice. But just as I walk into the library, the windows burst open with the strong winds. Liam looks shocked as he covers his face from the wind, and I run to close the windows.

“Liam, what are you doing?” I look back at him.

“She,…….she was here. She was right here.” He says as he looks at the empty space before him.

“Liam you have to stop this.”

“No. She heard me. When I called her, she looked at me. She could hear me.” Liam says as he looks at me with a serious look.

I sigh. “Liam. She’s gone. No one’s here.”

“No, she’s not. You never found a body.”

“Because everything was burned to a pile ash. Besides, you felt it, you felt her death.”

“Then how do you explain this?!” Liam shouts as he points to the empty space in front of him.

I shake my head as I approach him, but as I near the spot he’s pointing to, I see what he’s talking about. Right in front of him, are small wet footprints. And as I take a closer look, I see that there’s a trail of them leading to the open back door. As if someone came walking from outside in the rain and into the library with wet feet.

Looking up at Liam, he knows I see them, he knows I’m confused too. What the actual fuck?

“What…….” I’m at a loss for words.

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out too. I’m telling you, -she’s not gone. I think she’s just,…….lost.”

“Lost? But,……how? Where?”

“I don’t know. But I'll find out. I will find her.”

I hope you enjoyed the story.

There will most definitely be a book 2.
