Chapter 37
I could not stand to be inside any longer and decided to have a look around. After walking the entire warehouse, twice, I came back to the front door. Opening it, a cool breeze lifted my blonde hair. The metal door shut with a clang, and I looked around. No one was here. So much for needing so much protection; so much so, that I was left alone. Fucking idiots…
Walking over to the railing that ran along the embankment of Hudson’s water, I stuck my hands into my jean’s pockets. It was cool outside, but not cold enough to go and get my coat. Leaning over the metal railing, I peered down into the murky water. Maybe I could make the water move. Concentrating hard, nothing happened. This was probably more frustrating than Hayden and his mood swings. Hand gripping the railing, I tried again, and still, nothing happened.
“This is such bull…” I started to say.
“No need to swear.” Damien came and stood beside me. I was so used to him popping up that it did not faze me anymore.
“I can’t get the water to do anything. How am I supposed to be this Angel of Death, if I can’t even get some putrid water to fucking ripple?” Damien seemed to think about that.
“Maybe you need to practice.” He stated. I looked over at him and had to stop myself from rolling my eyes.
“Thanks, Sherlock, but what do you think I was just doing?” Damien turned and walked a few feet away from me. He was leaving.
“Well, are you coming or not?” he asked with a gleam in his eyes.
I looked back at the water and then at Damien’s retreating figure. I decided to follow him. Catching up to him, he led us around the back of the warehouse to an open area. The asphalt seemed to be crumbling from neglect and age; and Jesse’s warehouse surrounded the area, blocking it from anyone’s view. “What are we doing here?” I asked, kicking a piece of rock around.
“Practicing; you want to learn how to control your powers, and I’m going to help you as much as I can.” My head shot up and I was suddenly more interested in what Damien was saying.
“You can teach me?” I felt hope and excitement start to flicker within me. Damien smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, well I can try. Our powers are not from the same source. Yours are Elven, mine is Christian, but we are both Angels, so I’m guessing that’s a start…” he said simply shrugging his shoulders. I was beaming now and wanted to get to work right away. I wanted to learn everything; how to control each element, what I could use in a fight – everything.
“Where do we start?” I asked anxiously.
“Well, you seem to be able to use angel fire the most, so we can start with that.” Damien turned and started setting up targets with rubble that lay around, abandoned in the area where we stood. I started to help him, and after fifteen minutes we had ten targets set up.
It was time to get to work.
