Chapter 72
Sofia Andrew
I'm anticipating the day that I will give birth and be a mother, while Angel is already planning the nursery, which is illogical because we haven't even established where our relationship stands. He served me so much food this morning that I feel like I'm going to burst. He forbade me from doing so much work and from going to the workshop because it could hurt me. That's why, when he left Andrew & Leffman and went to his company, I fled to Let-technology.
The only place he won't find me-hell, I'm pregnant, not disabled.
"Good afternoon, friend," Amelia greeted me when he entered my office. "I know you said to meet earlier, but I was busy at the court, but here I am. What is so important that you have to tell me?"
"Well, I found out where the stress is coming from and why my mood swings and appetite are uncontrolled."
"Duh. Didn't we assume that it's from the lack of s*x, but Angel already cured you?"
"Amelia, it's because of something else," I told her, and she looked confused. "It turns out that you are going to have to make time so that in about six months, you can attend a baby shower that you are going to organize." "Huh, and why should I do that? What are you on now, Sofia?"
"You're going to do it because you're the godmother." I hinted more, and she still didn't get it. I swear, how can she be this slow?
"Sofia, you are stranger than normal, and I am not the godmother of any baby; the only godson or goddaughter I'll accept is yours, and because you made me promise it when we were children..." She instantly paused, and her eyes widened when she finally understood me. "Oh, my God! Am I going to be an aunt?! Ah!" She squealed, and my eardrums almost burst.
She gets up and starts jumping excitedly. "She must be a girl, and I will spoil her with lots of clothes and makeup! I'm going to spoil her rotten!"
"What if he is a boy? Are you going to ignore him?"
"No! I'm going to teach him how to properly treat a lady, first and foremost. Ah! Come here. You!" She lifts me up from my seat and almost suffocates me in a hug. "Does Angel know?"
"Of course, he knows; we even found out together."
"How? What happened?" She pressed, and we sat again.
"Well, yesterday, we had dinner at my dad's house. I practically devoured all the food and Angel got nauseous again. At some point after dinner, I fainted, and I woke up in the hospital. I thought it was another of my sugar crises and so did they, but then Paul came in saying that there was no crisis, but a cute and beautiful two-month-old baby. I freaked out big time, Amelia." I told her the story with mixed emotions.
"And what expression did Angel make when he found out?"
"He was so happy! He keeps telling everyone that he is going to be a dad. He has already planned absolutely everything-the room, what he should and shouldn't buy. In fact, I think he is even planning which school he is going to enroll in; it is driving me crazy." Amelia laughed and gushed. "Oh, how cute."
I rolled my eyes at her. "It's not cute, Amelia, he's driving me crazy. This morning, he served me a huge amount of food and I ended up eating too much, then he asked me not to go to work. We had an argument and he let me go to work but forbade everyone to bother me; he also forbade me from going to the workshop because I could fall or have some kind of accident." I ranted to my friend, remembering what happened and getting frustrated all over again.
"Well, his concern is valid. You have to take care of yourself twice as much as you took care of yourself because you now have a little one cooking there."
"I know that, but can you believe that last night during s*x, he told me not to be so rough because we could hurt the baby?" I complained, and she laughed out loud. "It's not funny; my hormones are raging, and he just had to tell me that."
"Oh, friend, what's wrong with that? Slow s*x is still s*x."
"Yes, and he knows how to do it well, but that's not the point. One day, Amelia, only one day has passed, and he's already driving me crazy. I don't want to imagine the next seven months. Also, he lives in his apartment and I live in mine; tell me what kind of relationship that is." "One in which you two have to clarify once and for all what your plans are. I don't think Angel wants to live far from you."
"No, but I don't see myself living in his apartment. It's well, very him, and neither in mine because it's too small for him and there's no way I'm going to return to that big, ugly house."
"Does that mean that you've already forgiven him, and there won't be so much brawling anymore, and you'll be happy?" Amelia asked with hope in her voice.
"I wanted to make him suffer a little more, but our child changed the plans. Plus, he's too tender and sweet to keep dragging this out, so yes, I've forgiven him."
"The million-dollar question is: did you tell him that you are the owner of Let-technology?" She asked with a serious face, and I looked away.
"Did you have to ruin the moment of happiness?"
"Honey, I'm not trying to ruin anything for you; I'm trying to prevent you from ruining what is working wonderfully right now." She insisted, and I hate how she has a point.
"I don't want to talk about that now; I just want to take care of resolving the pending issues and getting started with the operating systems for the cars and our branch in France." Amelia scrunched up her face and sighed at me. "You can change the subject all you want, my friend, but it won't change the fact that I'm still right."
"Sofia!" Isaac suddenly enters and greets Amelia with a kiss. "Can you tell me why Angel wants to see me?" he asked, and that surprised me.
I thought for a moment before shrugging. "I don't know; I already told you; maybe he wants to mention something to you about why you decided to work with me and not him." "It means you haven't told him you're the owner," he commented, and I fell silent.
I bit my lip and ran my fingers through my hair. "I was going to do it, but some news caught me off guard, and I missed the chance."
"What news could be more important than telling your husband that you are the owner of the company where he wants to do business?"
"The fact that we are going to... become parents?" I told him the news, and he looked amazed. He turned to Amelia, who nodded, and he snapped out of his trance.
"You are pregnant?" he asked in surprise, and I nodded. "Oh! Congratulations! That explains your mood swings and your appetite."
"Yes, but I prefer the mood swings and uncontrolled appetite to the nausea and dizziness that Angel has to endure," I confessed, and I shivered a little. "Does he have the symptoms? Poor thing, but getting back to the topic, your lover boy wants to see me in a few hours. What am I supposed to tell him?" I threw my hands in the air with a lack of reason. "I don't know, Isaac, improvise, but for the love of God, do not tell him that I'm the owner; I'll do it." "What if he insists on the business?"
"Tell him you'll think about it, and then we'll figure it out."
"Oh, the trouble you got me into, Sofia," he exclaimed miserably before leaving to possibly meet Angel.
"You do know that Angel is going to be upset because we are literally lying to his face," Amelia said once we were alone again.
"Amelia, I can't be stressed. I'm a pregnant woman who needs to be calm, so don't overwhelm me."
"Is telling you the truth a burden? Well, since we are here, we can solve the problem with Canada."
We stopped talking about Angel, and we started working. We went from Let-Technology to Lee Andrew's, then to Andrew & Leffman. And I feel exhausted more than ever.
How am I supposed to run three companies, Angel, and a baby?!
When I got to my apartment, I fell asleep instantly, woke up to noises, and saw the angel in the kitchen. My heart almost burst out in fear.
"God, you scared me! How did you get in?"
"With the key, where were you all afternoon? I told you not to tire yourself out, Sofia," he told me sternly while holding a spatula.
"Angel, I was working; I'm still a busy woman managing an empire," I replied, seeing so much food. "Don't cook so much, please."
"Just what you need-fruits, vegetables, and protein," he said, leaning his hands on the chair. "You know, I thought maybe I should return to the presidency of Andrew & Leffman until the baby is born; then we'll see. We must also think about Amelia being able to manage the fashion company and..." He paused and looked at me. "What do you think?"
"That you're going to drive me crazy. Let's get something straight before this gets out of hand, Angel. I'm pregnant, not disabled. I am a woman with projects and dreams, and I have worked a lot; a baby is not going to change that. So I will continue working, and as for Amelia, she's my partner, so she will work with me as before, and you are going to take care of your company like always. Everything will remain the same; it is not up for discussion."
"But love, I don't want you to get stressed with so many responsibilities," Angel complained. She tried to act cute, but it only made me want to smack him.
"I know, but you're driving me crazy with your overprotectiveness, so calm down, okay?"
"Okay, but as soon as I see that you're overworked or stressed, say goodbye to your work."
"Angel!" I yelled his name in order to stop him.
"Sofia!" He mimicked me and only grinned. "By the way, I already asked Carmen to help you, so you have to organize your things to move."
"Move? Where to? I'm not going back to that cold, big, and ugly house; no, sir, I'm fine here in my apartment." I rejected firmly while shaking my head. "My love, your apartment is spacious, but for a baby, I think it is small."
"I'm not moving!"
"I know you don't like the house; that's why I was thinking about my apartment, plus the security is better, don't you think?"
What does that even mean?
"Your apartment is nice and big, but... I don't know, can I think about it?" I pleaded, and he looked at me reluctantly, but he agreed in the end. "What did you do today?"
"I went to Autos-Let to finish a project I have, then I went to expedite a matter I had, and then I came here. I think that you have yourself and the baby checked. You've been without a check-up for almost two months, we've had wine, and you're missing vitamins and all that stuff about pregnant women."
God, this man is so meticulous!
"Do you want a boy or a girl?" I asked to change the subject.
"I do not care." I narrowed my eyes at him, not believing what he said. "Girls cry a lot, but they are daddy's princesses, and they are unconditional. Alright, what man doesn't want a boy? Share his tastes and teach him everything a gentleman should know, but I don't have a preference. Whether she is a beautiful girl like you or a handsome boy like me,"
"Safe answer. Okay, I'm going to find a doctor to check me up, but I'll say just one thing. If she is a girl, I pity her because I know that you are going to spoil her a lot, but I already imagine her with a thousand guards. Also, if he is a boy, poor him because if he turns out like you, the intelligence he is going to have is not going to be easy."
"As long as they come out with your intelligence, I'm satisfied," he said with a smile, and he sounded so sincere.
I imagined a baby with my intelligence and Angel's genius mind. God, they are going to be unstoppable.
"Sofia, thank you for giving me this opportunity and for allowing me to show you that I love you and make up for these years of suffering," Angel suddenly expresses out of nowhere.
"Well, you still have a lot to do, but you're on the right track." I shrugged, and he laughed.
Angel came to me and held my hands while looking deep into my eyes. It's like he wants me to feel whatever he's about to say. "When I saw you at the university, I told myself that you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, and I must meet her. And then in class, when you gave your ideas, I knew that you were the woman of my life, with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my days. That's why when we started to get to know each other, I fell in love. It was stupid of me to not tell you what I felt at that moment and let myself be carried away by rumors, instead of telling you what I felt and confessing."
"Angel, that's in the past."
"It is not, because we could have been happy a long time ago; we could have avoided these five years of meaningless arguments, pain, and resentment. I still don't know how you allowed me to be here with you after everything I put you through." His eyes showed regret, pain, and sadness, and I caressed his hands in return.
"Because I love you, because I waited six years for you to see me with love, for you to know that you are important to me and realize that I was not going to allow you to walk away from me. Actually, if you think about it, Elisa gave us a favor by inventing those photos and your dad with his lies."
Angel gave me a stern look. "You didn't just say that, woman. That baby of mine is making you speak incoherently."
"No, think about it. You were with Elisa and you weren't talking to me. Right now, if your father and Elisa had not done what they did, you would be married to her, raising a baby that is not yours, working under your father's shadow, or in a low-class company, with a crazy woman stealing everything from you and being unfaithful, while I would be at the top, all beautiful and powerful, with men at my feet. How would we meet?"
"If you put it that way, it's pretty horrible, but I don't think I will be under my father's shadows, much less in a low-class company. I'm too smart to settle for that, and you, yes, you would probably be too high for me to reach, but I still think we would have met. Fate will do its magic," he said with a grin, and I smiled.
"The point is, if your father had not lied to you to marry me, you would not be the powerful, implacable, arrogant, and cold businessman, owner of two large automotive companies, husband of a beautiful and empowered woman, and future father of a snail."
"That's true, but if he hadn't lied to me, I wouldn't have made that beautiful and empowered woman a victim of my resentment, contempt, and bad attitude for five years."
"The past makes us who we are, and we learned that we must speak, investigate, and not blindly believe what we are told."
"I'm glad to have you back, and this time without lies. Just you and me."
