Chapter 7
Chapter 7 Kidnapped
"Eudora, stay here at the mansion with me for a couple of days, will you?" Belinda said.
Eudora was well aware that she had offended Colbert, and she didn't want to grovel to the Baldwins for the sake of her foster parents. So now she could only rely on Madam Steele.
After all, Belinda didn't seem to have any hostility towards her.
Even so, she was confused by the invitation.
"My pleasure, but why?" Eudora asked.
"Colbert slept with you, so it should be his responsibility to take care of you. Besides, if you stay here for a few more days, I can get to know you better," Belinda replied. Remembering Eudora's concern, she added, "I have invited the best experts from overseas to treat your parents. They will recover soon."
Eudora was grateful but felt that she couldn't repay Belinda.
She could only remind herself that she had saved Colbert, so Belinda saving her foster parents wouldn't put her in too much debt.
"Thank you, Madam Steele," Eudora sincerely expressed her gratitude.
For the next three days, Eudora accompanied Madam Steele in morning yoga sessions and gardening, and they also made pastries and played chess together in the afternoons.
On the morning of the fourth day, after having breakfast with the old lady, Eudora packed her things and carried them downstairs.
She nodded to Belinda, who was sitting on the sofa, "Madam Steele, I'm leaving. Thank you for your hospitality."
Belinda stood up, walked to Eudora, and smiled kindly, "You are such a lovely young lady. Spending time with you makes me feel much younger, too."
Belinda was always like a nice grandma to Eudora as she was never harsh to the girl.
"That's because you are young at heart, Madam Steele. Good-bye."
"Okay. Come and visit me now and then, will you?"
"Um...yeah, sure." Eudora responded awkwardly.
After all, whether she could come to the mansion again was not up to her to decide.
Belinda had arranged for a driver to take Eudora back to downtown.
When Eudora saw a pharmacy, she asked the driver to stop the car.
She got off and said to the driver, "Thank you, sir. Please also bring my gratitude to Madam Steele."
"Of course, Miss Stanford."
The driver nodded at her and drove away.
Eudora hurriedly entered the pharmacy.
"Hello. How can I help you today?" The staff greeted her.
"I need the most effective emergency contraceptive pill," Eudora said anxiously.
She hadn't got a chance to leave the Steele's mansion in the past few days, so she couldn't buy the pills. Now that she was out, she wanted to take the pill as soon as possible. If she really got pregnant, it'd be a disaster!
The pharmacist handed her a box of pills, "This one has the best effectiveness within 72 hours."
Eudora took the pills and was going to pay when she suddenly paused. "What did you say, within 72 hours?!"
"Yes, the sooner, the better. After three days, the pill will no longer be effective."
"Only three days?"
"Yes."
Eudora's mind went blank for a moment.
Then she looked down at the instructions on the box. Indeed, it said the pills would only be effective within the first 72 hours.
She had never got a chance to use this type of pills before and never knew that there'd be a time-limit!
No wonder Madam Steele kept her at the mansion for three days!
She put down the pills and walked out of the pharmacy, her eyes filled with tears.
Strolling down the street alone, it took Eudora a while to calm herself down. What was there to be afraid of? If she got pregnant, there was still plan C... Right? Nothing to fear! Deep breaths.
Just then, a car suddenly screeched to a halt in front of her.
Before Eudora could react, she was pulled into the car.
"Hey! Wh-who the heck are you? Kidnapping is illegal!" Eudora struggled as she yelled, "Stop the car! Let me go! Or I'm calling 911!"
"Miss Stanford, you'd better behave yourself and not get yourself into trouble."
A familiar voice came from the driver's seat.
Eudora tilted her head and stretched her neck to have a better look. To her surprise, it was Colbert's assistant, Corey.
So, Colbert ordered Corey to kidnap her?!
The karma of acting tough came so soon...
She had just left the Steele's mansion, and Colbert had already caught her! He really wastes no time.
"Stop the car and let me go, or I'll call Grandma Steele."
"You'd better think it through, Miss Stanford."
Eudora was speechless.
Think WHAT through? Would it be better for her to just sit still and wait for her doom?!
But with her parents still in the Steeles' hospital, Eudora decided not to act recklessly.
A few minutes later, Eudora was brought to Colbert's private suite on the 38th floor of the Philomel Tower.
"Boss, Miss Stanford is here." Corey brought Eudora in and left.
Eudora gripped her bag, watching Colbert work on his laptop. His gaze was focused on the screen, his slender fingers danced on the keyboard. Colbert exuded an air of superiority as if he could judge all living beings from high up in the clouds.
His face was breathtakingly beautiful, with perfect features and sharp lines, as if it were a masterpiece crafted by God himself.
Even Eudora, who was usually not interested in handsome men, couldn't help but stare.
"Have you stared enough?" Colbert suddenly closed his laptop.
"Don't be so narcissistic." Eudora retorted.
The man in the black shirt, with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, stood up. His sharp gaze locked onto her. "You think you can talk to me like that just because my grandmother is on your side?" Feeling the sudden tension in the room, Eudora nervously swallowed, "No. Not at all."
"Huh, what happened to your courage? Back at the mansion, you said you wanted to have my baby and marry me, didn't you?"
This woman dared to provoke him. She has no idea what he has in store for her.
Eudora's face turned pale as she chuckled awkwardly. She took a step back, "Mr. Steele, please. I was just joking around."
She kept stepping back, but Colbert grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in. "I hate being threatened. And you did it. Well done."
With his congratulatory words, Colbert stared at Eudora like he was looking at dead meat.
She was scared out of her wits. "Mr. Steele, it was all just a joke, really."
"A joke? You can't prove it by just saying."
"Then... then... then how can I prove it?" Eudora stuttered.
Colbert raised an eyebrow, a cold smirk on his face...
