I Refuse to Divorce!

Chapter 44

Their bodies pressed tightly against each other, rubbing against one another. To say that Zoe did not feel anything would be a lie. However, she still had reservations about Mason, so she found an excuse.

"The banquet starts at seven. If you care so much about that project, why would you want to be late?"

At her words, Mason loosened his grip on her slightly. He looked at her in the mirror and chuckled softly. "Mrs. Lockwood, you really know how to kill the mood.”

The crisis was finally averted. In the car on the way back, neither of them spoke.

Mason's black Bentley slowly pulled into the Abbott Residence at 7:00 PM. He got out of the car and opened the door for Zoe. Mason held her hand as she got out of the car. She could not help but look up at him.

Under the fluttering night breeze and the glamorous lights, they locked eyes. Mason gently tightened his grip on her hand, pulling her toward him and whispering, "Stick close to me tonight. Don't flirt with other men, okay?"

His words carried a possessive tone. Zoe leaned against his shoulder and saw Gregory.

Gregory stood under the manors light, holding a glass of red wine, his gaze dark and fixed on her. Zoe had no intention of coming close to him. Her lips trembled slightly, and she gently hugged Mason

Gregory narrowed his eyes, and he walked away. Mason was no fool. He lightly held her chin, his voice dangerously husky.

"Learning to use people now?"

Zoe turned her face away. "Mason, don't forget your goal tonight.”

Mason's gaze was unreadable. "Of course, I won't forget, Mrs. Lockwood."

Then, he held her hand. They looked like a loving couple.

Zoe cooperated well. They even danced together at the banquet, earning them applause. Rosemary went out of her way to introduce Zoe to the top socialites, giving her the title of Mrs. Lockwood from the Lockwood Group and an accomplished violinist.

To raise Zoe's social status, Rosemary boasted without even knowing if it was true.

"I heard that Aurora is coming back. Everyone knows Aurora has a favorite student, but what you don't know is that the student is none other than Mrs. Lockwood!"

Zoe was slightly stunned. Only she, Mia, and Ella knew about this. Rosemary continued to push her to perform, partly to uphold Rosemary's dignity and partly to prove her worth to the crowd.

On the lush lawn, under the sparkling lights, Zoe, dressed in a fairy-like haute couture gown, played a soulful piece by Massenet. After finishing the song, no one questioned Rosemary's words. Even Rosemary herself almost believed it.

Zoe was the person Aurora was looking for.

Zoe thanked the audience. She looked up and locked eyes with Mason.

He stood there casually, but his eyes revealed a lustful possessiveness, only the most primitive desire a man could have for a woman.

Zoe could not bear that kind of gaze. She pretended to go to the restroom.

Meanwhile, Mason's gaze followed her all the way. Beside him, Terrence patted his shoulder and laughed. "Oh, to be young and in love. You're making me jealous!"

Mason chuckled, giving him a light pat on the back. Rosemary came over, diligently tidying Terrence's appearance. She stood beside her husband, talking to Mason, lavishing praise on Zoe for her beauty, grace, and talent.

Terrence lightly patted his wife's hand. "If you like her so much, just take her as our goddaughter. It's rare to see you get along with anyone so well.”

Rosemary shot her husband a glance. Although she was over 40, she still had charm and a certain beauty.

Rosemary complained, "I'm only 14 or 15 years older than Mason. How can I accept his wife as a goddaughter? Besides, you should consider your own worth beforehand. If you really want to, collaborate more with Mason. It'll bring me closer to Zoe."
