Chapter 526
Chapter 526 You're With a Woman
Lauren sat on the empty sofa across from him and whispered, "Benjamin, did you really have a fight with Harper? Is it because of Frank? Did you misunderstand something? There's really nothing going on between them; after all, Harper is pregnant right now. Try not to be too upset."
Benjamin didn't say a word, just glanced at her faintly as if questioning if she came all this way just to talk about this.
Intimidated by his look, she quickly changed the subject, "Benjamin, don't you want to see me?"
"Did you come all the way here just to ask me that?"
"No, I..."
"I have a meeting soon, so if you have something to say, say it, okay?"
Benjamin seemed impatient, his gaze toward her cold and distant.
Lauren bit her lip, pondering for a moment before saying, "Benjamin, if you're busy, you can go ahead with your work; I can wait here for you."
"Suit yourself," Benjamin said, then got up and walked back to his room.
Sitting on the sofa, Lauren felt uneasy. Benjamin's attitude was different from what Curtis had mentioned over the phone. Benjamin was angry with her.
She suddenly remembered what Frank had said; she wondered if Benjamin knew about her situation with Patrick.
Lauren couldn't sit still anymore, worried that Benjamin might resent her.
As she was thinking about how to get more information from Benjamin, the door to the main bedroom opened. He came out in different clothes, went straight to the desk on one side, sat down, and started his computer. Tentatively, Lauren asked, "Benjamin, are you angry with me?"
Benjamin gave her a cold glance. "Lauren, if you have nothing to say, either leave or keep quiet, okay? I'm about to start a meeting, or else I'll have to ask security to escort you out."
His merciless indifference stiffened Lauren's expression, turning the warmth in her eyes into hurt as she bit her lip, silenced.
He withdrew his gaze and began the meeting seriously. The room quieted down, filled only with his displeased tone as he questioned company executives and project leaders. Lauren sat motionless like she was invisible.
She felt uneasy, unsure of her next move.
After pondering for a long while, half an hour she had passed when she heard Benjamin cough lightly, sparking an idea in her.
Carefully, she stood and tiptoed to
the nearby refreshment area. She poured a cup of warm water for
Benjamin, glancing over to maken et
sure he wasn't watching before discreetly slipping something into the cup.
To avoid any suspicion, she poured herself water, too.
Taking a deep breath, she walked over to Benjamin with the cups.
She set his cup on the desk and, seeing no objection from him, felt a slight relief. She quietly returned to the sofa to sit down.
Just as Benjamin was about to take
a drink, his phone rang. He picked it up, glanced at it, and casually said to the executives on the computer, "Alright, that's it for today. We're done here."
He ended the video call, then took his cup and walked over to the sofa, placing it on the coffee table before leisurely pressing the answer button. "What's up?"
"Not a good time?"
"Speak your mind," he replied cooly.
The caller asked, "How about a drink?"
"I'm busy."
"Benjamin, what are you up to?" Larry sounded curious.
Benjamin squinted and did not respond just as the doorbell rang.
He looked at Lauren, who immediately said, "I'll get the door."
Larry's voice carried a hint of surprise. "You're with a woman?"
"I've got to go, and we'll talk later."
Without waiting for a response, Benjamin hung up and watched Lauren walk to the door.
His expression was unreadable, leaving others to guess what was on his mind.
