Chapter 489
Chapter 489 Lies
Harper's birthday was less than a month away, but she rarely celebrated it. When she lived in Dattlech, she would have a meal with Annie or Frank to celebrate. However, after marrying Benjamin and moving to Mayby, she spent her first birthday there alone. Benjamin had work that day, and she didn't tell him about it either.
She remembered that Frank was angry about it, thinking Benjamin hadn't fulfilled his responsibilities as a husband. If she hadn't stopped Frank, he would have gone to confront Benjamin for that. Thinking about this, Harper felt very sad.
Even now, she knew Frank had indeed done wrong, but she couldn't blame him like other people do.
Harper didn't answer Annie immediately, just saying, "I'll decide later. We've been busy all day, so let's head home early."
They packed up their things and left the office. It was dark outside, and all the other employees had also gone home.
Annie joked, "Should we call them back to work overtime? It's not fair if just the two of us stay."
Harper smiled and said, "Show some mercy."
They were laughing and talking when Frank's office door suddenly opened from the inside. Both Harper and Annie were shocked, staring at the door without blinking, even afraid to breathe deeply. A familiar voice came from inside. "Harper, have you finished your work?"
The familiar voice made Harper relieved, and she asked, "Frank, why are you still here?"
"I saw that you and Annie hadn't left yet, and I worried that it might not be safe for you to go home alone, so I waited for you."
Frank's eyes were particularly gentle.
Harper felt a bit uncomfortable and looked at Annie as if asking, "Did he hear us?"
Annie was also shocked, and after she recovered, she complained, "Frank, were you deliberately waiting here to eavesdrop on our conversation?"
Frank smiled gently, not showing any signs of annoyance. "Were you saying bad things about me, and that's why you're worried I heard?" "You're funny. Even if we did, do you think we'd admit it?" Annie replied sarcastically.
Harper tugged on her arm to stop her and then spoke to Frank, "Frank, don't ten to her. It's getting late, and you should head back too."
"Sure, let's go."
Frank nodded, and his argument with Annie ended there.
BUMS
The three of them took the elevator downstairs, and Frank offered to drive them home.
Harper replied, "No need, you just go home. I've asked him to pick me up."
The "him" meant Benjamin.
Frank understood and nodded. He then walked to the garage and drove away.
Harper and Annie stood there, watching Frank's car disappear from view. Harper turned away and said, "Let's go, we'll take a cab home." "Can you drive tomorrow?"
"Yes, I can."
Her car's maintenance was almost finished.
Annie hooked her arm around Harper's, and they walked towards the roadside. She sighed, "Harper, please don't lie anymore. One fie requires many more to cove it up. It's too tiring."
"Yes, that's probably the price of lying. Although I deceived others, I'm the one to suffer."
If possible, she didn't want to lie either.
By the time Harper got back to her apartment, Benjamin had already arrived.
She had sent him a message in the e afternoon, telling him she would be back late at night, so he had been waiting for her in the living room.
When he saw her enter, he asked, "Have you eaten?"
"Yes, Annie and I ordered takeout."
"What were you busy with? Why did you come back so late?" he asked, looking at her.
