Chapter 1
The sky was darkening as Luna walked through the fleeting market. She had just finished getting groceries for her new apartment. It was the last thing to do on her list. She had gotten some meat, juice, and fruit.
Now seeing that everyone was packing up their food stands and fewer people walked past her, she knew it was time to head back to her car. Luna sighed at the thought of her carrying her two heavy bags all the way to her car, but she continued anyway.
Her new brown boots with thick heels clicked on the stone path. She regretted wearing them, for walking from place to place was now killing her feet. Luna's eyes trailed over to a stone wall as she rested her body on it. Already tired from the heavy bags.
"It seems I still make bad decisions," She breathlessly said.
"Pretty Little Thing." A low scratchy voice almost knocked Luna right off her feet. She had not noticed she was leaning against an alley entre. Inside the almost dark alley was a small bending figure. Luna backed away slowly.
"Don't be afraid. Please, believe me pretty lady, I come in peace." The thing was actually a man. A really tattered and homeless-looking man. Luna wouldn't have been so worried if he didn't look so unpleasing to the eye.
She continued to back away, ready to leave her bags and run to her car. "U-uh ok," She stuttered.
The Figure walked to the front of the alleyway, where the sunset light reflected off his cloak. Now Luna could really see his features. His skin was dirty and wet. Like he had been staying outside in the heat for hours. His teeth looked very crooked, she had no idea how they stayed in his mouth. Luna gasped once she saw his eyes. His eyes weren't a normal color. They were purple. A deep and dark purple.
She instantly regretted coming to the market. Her hands started to fiddle with her bags, deciding whether to drop them.
The man noticed her hesitation and immediately began to cower as if Luna was a threat. "Oh dear, it seems my terrifying appearance is scaring you, I'll hurry and leave you alone."
Luna relaxed her shoulders and her heart sank in shame. How could I be so judgmental and rude!? She started to softly shake her head. "I'm sorry, it's not you mister, I just need to be heading home now, and you sorta startled me is all."
The man tilted his head and smiled. "Oh I-I see, then I will only take a moment of your time Miss." His eyes looked down at her groceries. "Would you mind dear, If I had just one of your pears...."
Luna looked down at her left hand, where she held one of her bags, that contained pears and other ingredients. She bought the pears specifically to make pear pie. She had no reason and saw no excuse to not give at least one to him. So against her better judgment, she pulled out one for him.
"Um, here you go sir."
She didn't move and instead waited for the man to take it. But as soon as he moved away from the wall and walked two steps towards her...he fell. Luna dropped all her stuff and ran to him. "Sir, are you alright?"
The man wasn't answering and Luna was starting to panic. She pulled his body up, so his back could lay against the wall. Luna looked at his face and gasped. His face had changed. It was no longer looking old and unsightly, but beautiful. Beautiful beyond Luna's belief. Except instead of staring at him in amazement, Luna crawled away in fear.
"Someone help!" She screamed, almost fully out of the alley.
He grabbed her leg. Luna yelped. The man was strong, as he pulled her back onto the alleyway. Luna started to hit him, but he got on top of her and grabbed both of her hands with one of his own. With his right, he covered her mouth.
Luna's yells soon turned muffled, and could only cry in fear, as she waited for the worst. What was I thinking, trying to help this suspicious man? N-now he's gonna take advantage of me!
Luna could now really see how the man changed. His hair was full of gold that stood everywhere. His skin glowed like radiating light, almost like the sun, and his body had turned into a young 20-year-olds. He was indeed pretty but Luna wasn't going to submit just because of his looks.
Once he got her under control he smiled at her. His teeth looked perfect now, but his smile sent shivers down her spine. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you young lady, but you are just too perfect to let go," He sighed. "You don't know how long I've searched for a perfect candidate, to help Vendilla."
What on earth is he talking about? Vendilla what is that!? Luna continued to cry as she shuffled her legs, trying to hit his crotch.
"Listen to me very carefully young lady. I am known as a Searcher. I come from the heavens. Me and a hundred other Searchers, have been looking for one thing on this earth, and that one thing is you. Well to be specific, a person good of heart, like yourself."
Luna was listening to him. As much as she didn't want to listen to his nonsense, she had no choice.
"I need you to go into the world of Vendilla. It is very different from your world, Miss Luna."
Luna shivered and her eyes grew wider. How does he know my name?
"You see Vendilla is in much need of a good person like yourself. I have been looking for ten years. To find someone worthy of saving it, and now I finally have. You dear, are gonna save Vendilla from darkness."
Luna started to shake her head in frustration. The man stopped smiling and drew closer to her face. "It is alright child, I really have no reason to harm you, and I swear to you I won't. I understand this is a lot to take in but believe me it will be worth it once I send you to Vendilla. Now please hush."
He mumbled something. A language Luna couldn't understand one bit. He released her mouth and proceeded and speaking in a different language. Luna knew this was gonna be her only chance to scream for help, but her mouth wouldn't make a sound. In fact, her mouth didn't even open. It was as if her lips were glued shut.
It seemed the man was about to finish his chant. "Go now, young Luna. Save Vendilla, make it have light again, and most importantly, save him."
Save who, what? what is he doing? Luna's body started to glow as it was engulfed in white light. Her body was too stressed at all this happening at once, and she fainted.
