Chapter 1
I died from decompression sickness, collapsing right outside the operating room.
But I hadn’t married my love yet, nor had I fulfilled my dreams.
Perhaps because of unfinished business, I found myself appearing in the hospital room.
My sister lay there, pale, while my mother, her face twisted with a hint of madness, yelled, “How can you be so heartless when a life is at stake? My darling hasn’t woken up yet—how can this be normal?”
My fiancé, Eric, stood beside her, soothing my mother’s nerves. “Mom, the doctor just checked. Evie’s only exhausted, and the stress from these past few days caused her to faint. She’ll be fine.”
“You’re so thoughtful, always staying by Evie’s side. If only… you could marry Evie. Tell me, are you still in love with her?”
As if something had suddenly struck her, my mother blurted out those words.
I knew ever since my father passed and she remarried to have my sister, she no longer loved me. But I never imagined she could be so cold-blooded!
My body wasn’t even cold yet, and she was already pushing for my fiancé to marry my sister!
Even worse, my sister had once been in a relationship with my fiancé—and I had no idea!
“I…” Eric didn’t outright refuse, his gaze shifting, clearly tempted. “Mom, to be honest, I chose to marry Aria because she reminded me of Evie. I never thought I’d have the chance to see Evie again.”
For a moment, I didn’t know what to say.
I had always known that Eric had a lingering first love, someone from his college days—a younger girl who had captivated his heart.
But I never imagined that this first love was right under my nose!
No wonder he never spoke about his ex in front of me, even going as far as hiding any photos of her!
How pathetic I was, a fool who had believed they just couldn’t get along!
