Chapter 359
Chapter 359 The Mystery Of His Identity
Jonathan would often choose to be merciful and forgive others.
However, sometimes, he would rather be relentless and decisive. For example, he still broke Torny's legs in the end.
People like Torny had many enemies. Now that he had been stripped of his wealth and was also a cripple, it would undoubtedly
be hard for him to continue living.
It was four in the afternoon when they left Sherwood Condominium.
The time that Jonathan and Mabel had in Mapleton was running out. Jonathan said to Vananeru, “Give me your bank account
number. I'll transfer you three hundred million thymon later.”
Vananeru quickly rejected his offer. Her face flushed red as she replied, “Thank you for your kind offer, but there's no need. My
father left me with a lot of money.” She paused momentarily before continuing, “If you need money urgently, I can even give you
some.”
Jonathan chuckled. “No thanks.” He also paused for a second. “Since you've put it that way, I won't keep insisting.”
“Are you guys leaving today?” asked Vananeru.
Jonathan nodded.
“Let me treat you guys to a meal,” said Vananeru.
She was a person of principle. She knew she could not blame them for her father's death. On the contrary, they had saved her
life many times.
Jonathan and Mabel exchanged a glance and did not reject Vananeru's offer.
It was now seven at night. Jonathan and Mabel took the flight back to Yaleview.
On the plane, Mabel asked Jonathan, “Will you go to Mount Goliath next?”
Jonathan's heart sank. He indeed wanted to know about his family background and identity, but somewhere deep in his heart, he
was afraid.
It was a complicated feeling.
“That's right,” Jonathan said.
Mabel asked, “Do you really not need me to accompany you?”
Jonathan grinned and replied, “No. You have things that you need to do too.”
Mabel stopped insisting at that.
“What do you plan on doing after going to Mount Goliath?” Mabel asked another question.
Jonathan was silent momentarily before he answered, “I want to gather Simon and the others to find a place and build a base. I'd
like to put alchemy aside for now. Increasing our strength and preparing the facilities should come first.”
He paused for a moment before continuing, “Besides, doing alchemy is not that easy. We still need to look for people who are
masters in alchemy and the instruments for it. These are hard to find, but no matter how hard it is, we'll be able to get them
eventually.”
Mabel beamed. “I'm interested in that. Count me in then.”
Jonathan gave a slight smile. “How should I count you in? I want to build my own faction. Are you going to become my
subordinate?”
Mabel rolled her eyes at him. “I'll become your partner. Since I also took part in the extortion today, treat my portion of the money
as payment to become your partner.”
“Haha! Sure!” Jonathan laughed.
Mabel was silent momentarily before saying, “But, Jonathan...”
“What is it?”
“I hope that one day, the two of us can traverse The Void and see all the wonders of the universe together. So, let's always be
good friends, okay?”
Jonathan was taken aback and soon felt embarrassed.
That was because he understood what Mabel meant.
Mabel had felt the change in his emotions and desires for her.
That was why she purposely said that out loud.
Lovers would quarrel and face immense pain when they part ways, but friends would not.
Mabel was a wise and far-sighted person. She currently did not want that kind of relationship with Jonathan. That was because
Jonathan now had many confidantes, and she was a proud person. How could she ever share a man with others?
However, all those confidantes of Jonathan's would die in the coming hundreds of years, whereas she and Jonathan would be
immortal if they could reach a high level of cultivation.
By then, she could perhaps be with Jonathan without any restraints.
Plus, at the moment, although Mabel had special feelings toward Jonathan, they were not considered to be the feelings of love
between a man and a woman.
“Of course!” Jonathan responded in a serious tone.
Mabel flashed him a smile and did not say anything else.
It was half past ten at night when they arrived at Yaleview.
Cool gusts of wind breezed through the skies of Yaleview.
Since May had not arrived and Yaleview was a city in the north, it was a bit nippy.
“Mabel, please prepare a private plane for me. I want to go to Mount Goliath right now,” Jonathan said to Mabel.
Mabel nodded in response.
Half an hour later, Jonathan boarded a private plane and was now heading toward Mount Goliath.
Luckily Jonathan was physically strong. He did not feel tired at all after traveling non-stop.
If it were ordinary people, they would not be able to withstand the exhaustion from all the traveling.
Two hours later, the private plane was nearing Mount Goliath, and worry filled Jonathan's heart.
Am I feeling timid now that I might find out about the truth? It won't be long before the truth behind the mystery is revealed.
It was windy on Mount Goliath, and the moon was bright.
The place looked magnificent, like a fairyland on earth.
Jonathan rushed toward the mountains after getting off the private plane. He arrived at a secluded area and yelled, “Demon
Emperor, I know you're here! Come out!”
Jonathan yelled a few more times, but he did not receive any response.
He laughed loudly and exclaimed, “Could it be that the Demon Emperor is a coward?”
The words had barely left his mouth when another voice came from The Void.
Tristan coldly said, “You b*stard. Are you courting death?”
Jonathan's heart lurched.
He took a deep breath and suppressed the fear in his heart before saying, “You would've killed me already if you wanted to. Why
are you spouting nonsense now? Come at me if you want to kill me. If not, then stop hiding and come out.”
Tristan appeared before Jonathan when he heard that.
He held out a hand and slapped Jonathan.
Jonathan was sent flying before falling to the ground with a heavy thud.
Feeling pain coursing throughout his body, he tasted something metallic before spitting out a mouthful of blood.
However, Jonathan did not suffer any serious injuries.
Tristan did not slap him with the intention of killing him. If he did, Jonathan would not even be alive right now.
Jonathan immediately stood up and glared at Tristan.
At that moment, an unusual feeling bubbled up within him. He had always thought that he and Tristan were somewhat related in
a way.
That was a special feeling that only blood relatives had.
The average father and son could have a slight sense of that feeling.
However, Jonathan and Tristan could sense that feeling much more apparent because of their cultivation level.
At that moment, Jonathan understood what it meant.
Tristan, who was standing before him, was his father.
I can't believe my father is the Demon Emperor!
Jonathan felt conflicted. He did not feel anything toward Tristan. He thought of Tristan as a complete stranger.
What I want to know now is why I was abandoned. Where's my mother?
Tristan also glared at Jonathan. He did not feel anything for Jonathan too. In fact, he felt a slight sense of hatred for the latter.
“I came here today to find out what exactly happened back then,” Jonathan said with a heavy heart. “Don't worry. I won't ask for
anything from you, nor will I use your name to do anything. I, Jonathan Lawson, do not need it!”
Tristan asked coldly, “What do you want to know?”
The first question Jonathan asked was, “Where is my mother?”
“She's dead!” Tristan exclaimed.
“How did she die?” Jonathan felt his heart clench in pain. D*mn. It hurts. All this while, he felt indescribable feelings toward a
mother he had never even met.
When he heard from Tristan that his mother had died, he felt breathless from the pain in his heart.
“I killed her,” Tristan replied nonchalantly.
“What?” Jonathan was bewildered. He held a hand to his chest as he uttered, “Is what you said true?”
Tristan smirked. “What a joke. Do you think I'd lie to you?”
“Why?” Jonathan was in utter disbelief.
Tristan answered coldly, “Your mother was a b*tch. If it weren't for her, my Evelyna wouldn't have died. That b*tch purposely
seduced me to have higher status and got pregnant with a b*stard like you. How could I tolerate her?”
Jonathan felt a chill run down his spine, and his head spun. He had thought of many things regarding his parents but never
expected his father to kill his mother.
Why would such a terrible thing happen to me? Why?
Jonathan could not help but let out a scream. His eyes reddened as he yelled at Tristan, “If so, why didn't you kill me back then
as well?”
Tristan calmly remarked, “It's not auspicious to kill a child. After all, you are my son. If it weren't for that, you would've already
been dead.”
Not only was Jonathan the Chosen One, but he was also Tristan's son. Hence, Tristan did not want to kill him.
That was because if that were to happen, the consequences would be too great.
Crack! Crack! Soft cracking sounds could be heard because of how tight Jonathan was clenching his fists. He asked, “Where is
my mother's grave?”
“I don't know. Did you think I would give her a proper burial?”
Jonathan uttered with clenched teeth, “Tristan, I swear I'll come for you one day if I can stay alive. Now, I'll ask you one last
question—what is my mother's name?”
“Paige Liamson. She was from Horbah.” He paused momentarily before continuing, “You b*stard. I never expected you to be the
Chosen One. Perhaps you are my demonic tribulation. Though I'd like to see if you can do anything notable.”
Jonathan did not say anything else as he turned around and left.
He did not wish to stay there any longer or say anything hurtful to Tristan.
It was meaningless to do so.
Jonathan would be back one day when he was strong enough to face Tristan.
He ran like a madman to release the anger in his heart. Only by running wildly could he feel like he was still alive.
It was three in the morning when Jonathan returned to Yaleview, and he found a motel to stay at.
At that moment, Jonathan did not want to see anyone, nor did he want to talk to anyone.
He lay on the bed and fell asleep until the afternoon of the next day. Mabel could not wait any longer and came looking for him.
Mabel had already known that Jonathan was acting weird when he returned, and she also heard from the private plane's pilot
that Jonathan was not in a good mood and did not want to be disturbed.
A moldy smell emanated from the room at the motel. The environment was nasty.
Sunlight shone through the window and onto Jonathan's face.
His face was as pale as a ghost.
“What's wrong?” Mabel asked when she noticed his pale face.
Jonathan glanced at Mabel before he sat up.
It only took one night for him to grow stubble on his chin and around his mouth.
“Tristan is my father,” Jonathan said slowly.
