Hunter (Brothers of Chaos MC)

Hunter: Chapter 4

The brothers were just getting settled after a long and tiring trip.

Thunder saw Phoenix sitting in the corner with a hurtful grimace on her face and Snowman was sitting next to her. He frowned, but at Snowman’s slight head shake, he didn’t approach them. Instead, he walked over to the bar where a prospect handed him and the others a beer.

Thunder drained his quickly then turned to glare at Sabrina. He grabbed another beer and walked over to sit down at her table. “So young lady, who the hell are you and what were you doing at the Blood Vikings compound this morning?”

“My name is Sabrina and I was there looking to find someone. She wasn’t there as far as I could tell, and I was so happy to see that.”

Thunder looked over at Hunter.

Hunter nodded then opened her bag and began to rifle through it looking for identification. He brought out a wallet and handed it over to Thunder.

“Hey, I didn’t give you permission to go through my things!” she protested.

Hunter shrugged. “I did though and until we know more about you that’s all he needs.”

Thunder opened her wallet and looked at her driver’s license. He frowned at the name he found there and raised his head to look at her. “Keefer? How the hell can this be?”

The men close to them began to grumble.

Thunder glared at her and asked, “Who the fuck are you lady?”

“I’m Shelby’s younger sister,” she whispered. “I’ve been watching their compound for a few days now, looking for her, but I was praying I wouldn’t find her there.”

“She hasn’t been there for a very long time. What made you look for her there after all this time?”

Sabrina sighed deeply. “I haven’t spoken to my sister in such a long time. It’s been fourteen years since our parents died. I was only ten at the time and she didn’t come home for their funeral, so I had to go into the foster system and no one could find her. It was like she just disappeared. I had no way of doing anything while I was a minor. When I aged out, no one knew much about her or where she got off to, so I had to look for her. The last I heard, she was living in San Antonio so I earned some money working odd jobs and I went there to look for her. No one there knew her really, then I ran into an old man who said she was taken a long time ago by the local MC. I had to check it out. I’ve been watching them for a few days but haven’t seen her since I was there.”

“They did take her twenty one years ago, but it wasn’t her idea, nor did she want to stay with Odin. I took her away from there and she never went back.” Thunder took a swig of his beer. “But I didn’t know she had a sister and she didn’t tell me her parents died.”

Sabrina hung her head and they saw her tears fall to her lap. Finally, she looked up at the older man. “She probably didn’t for a reason. I may have only been ten at the time but I knew what was going on. My parents had been living off the grid most of my life by that time for some reason. They told me they were trying to hide from my dad’s old boss. He wasn’t a good man. Shelby was older than me by nine years, so she was already out of the house by that time.”

“What happened?” Hunter asked.

“His old boss was connected to the underground and my dad could connect him to a high profile murder. My parents ran away but they knew this man was still looking for him. He was relentless and he wouldn’t stop. He almost found them two times before that last time. They had to be ready to move at the first sign of trouble and Shelby had lived with that since she was five years old. The old bastard found them again, and this time, he didn’t miss them. They were the only thing standing between him and freedom, so he came in guns blazing. Before they could even turn around and defend themselves, he shot them both. He would have shot me too, but I managed to hide. But the police were right behind him and after he shot my parents, he swore he’d never go to prison. He just raised his gun and aimed it at the cops surrounding him. He went to hell in a hail of bullets. I went to foster care under the Witsec program and I never saw Shelby again.”

“Why Witsec?” Hunter asked.

“That bastard had some pretty nasty friends and the police were still working on compiling their case. My father had given them enough evidence to break up some pretty bad stuff.”

“Why did you come looking for her now?” Thunder wanted to know.

Sabrina twisted her fingers together as she hesitated. “This may sound way out there, but I found something in the newspaper about six months ago. At first, it made no sense to me but then I began looking into the ads and found a pattern. I had to follow it and I tracked it all the way back to the beginning. It led me here or rather there… I should say.”

Thunder frowned then looked over at Phoenix and Rambler. “What did you say?”

Sabrina shrugged. “You have to know what to look for and I did. I just followed the clues she left for me to find.”

Wizard stared at her and asked, “So then you are Rina?”

Thunder snapped his head around to glare at his IT man. “Rina? Who the hell is Rina?”

Wizard began to explain, “When I was looking for the BeeBee posts, I also saw the same or similar postings to a Rina. The clues weren’t quite the same but I began following them too. They were clearly two separate posts but I think she was hoping one of them would be able to find her.”

Thunder looked at the floor for a moment then swung is gaze up at Wizard. “Are you any closer to finding her?”

“That’s the real question isn’t it?” Wizard commented. “I think I’ve got her trail but I still have a long way to go.” Wizard studied the man he called his friend and prez for a moment then suggested, “There may be something else boss.”

Thunder looked at him with a frown, “Such as?”

“I think he’s trying to tell you she may not be traveling alone, dad,” Phoenix said quietly.

Thunder snapped his head around to glare at her. “What the fuck does that mean?” he demanded.

Phoenix shrugged. “I’m not sure at this point.”

“I think his name is Gabe,” Sabrina told them all. “But I don’t think it’s what you think.”

Thunder turned his head slowly to her. “And how would you know that?”

She picked up her bag and began searching through it. When she found what she was looking for, she laid the envelope on the table and pushed it toward him.

Thunder looked into her face then stared down at the envelope. It was addressed to her parents. He could see the dirt stains on it and his Shelby’s handwriting.

He tore open the envelope and took out the short letter inside.

“Mom and Dad, I am so sorry I couldn’t be there for you in your hour of need. I will live with that regret the rest of my days. Mama, I wanted you to know I had a baby girl and I named her after an angel in my heart, you mom. I don’t know if she’s alive or not anymore, mom but I know you are watching over her either way.

I need you to watch over us as we travel from place to place, one step ahead of the bad guys. I really need your prayers mom. I need your strength and dad’s wisdom. You had the courage once to stand up for what you believed in and now, I hope to find that same courage you did.

I had what you found with dad once upon a time. And now, I’m lucky enough to have it again. A small piece of the man I loved once upon a time. Please watch over us and give my little girl a hug from me.

Thunder dropped the letter down on the table. Looking up at Sabrina, he said, “I still don’t understand.” He curled his fingers into white knuckled fists. “Sounds like she found herself a boyfriend.”

Sabrina looked over at Phoenix and shook her head. “Is he always this stupid?”

Phoenix shrugged. “I can’t remember but I think that a broken x chromosome is a hindrance sometimes. Men can be so dumb sometimes.”

“What the everlovin’ fuck are you two talking about?” Thunder roared. “Are we stupid men missing something here or what?”

Phoenix got to her feet. “Yes dad, you stupid men are most certainly missing something here.”

“What? What are we missing?” He growled back, getting to his own feet but bending with his hands on the table to stand nose to nose with his daughter.

“How about the fact that I might have a little brother out there somewhere?” Her eyes blazed her anger at him.
