Chapter 4

Asgeir POV

"Little brother, are you even listening to me?" Arvid waved his hand in front of my face to get my attention.

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" I asked as I looked at him.

"I asked if you wanted to go shoot arrows with me today? Who knows when we'll get to spend time together again." He said as he drank the last of his wine and looked at me.

"Admit it, you just want to make fun of my poor skills." I said chuckling.

"I really want to spend time with my little brother, making fun of you is just a bonus." He said laughing at me.

And yet again, despite the voice in my head telling me this was a bad idea, I found myself on the field with my bow and arrow, watching as Arvid shot his arrows.

"Your turn." He said turning towards me.

I bit the inside of my cheek, contemplating on whether or not I should tell him that I really didn't want to shoot arrows, but the excited look on his face, made me feel guilty and instead, I sighed and walked to stand next to him.

I took a deep breath and raised my arrow and wondered if this is how it was supposed to feel. It felt like I was tearing the flesh on my arm, and I felt my arm begin to shake and I let go. I watched the arrow shoot past the target and shoot into the forest.

"Wow, you really do suck." Arvid said and burst out into a fit of laughter.

"You have to focus more." Came a voice behind us, making us both turn around and look into a pair of hazel eyes.

I heard Arvid gasp slightly and I wondered just who this man was, I didn't have to look further, because the dragon skin-coat around him, gave it away. Standing in front of me was..

My future husband.

He looked at me for a moment, and walked towards me slowly until he stood in front of me, his face inches away from mine. I could feel my face heating up, and I wasn't sure if it was because he had seen my sucking at archery, or if it was because he was so close to me.

He took my hand in his and raised it to his mouth and closed his eyes. He pressed a gentle kiss on the back of my hand and opened his eyes to meet mine.

"I'm Gregor" he said smiling a smile at me. But it was not like the smiles my brothers showed me, or my parents, no this smile was not like one I have ever seem before, and it made me sort of uncomfortable , if anything it was..

Devious..

"I'm Asgier." I said in a low voice.

"It is my utmost pleasure to finally meet you Asgier. You are truly as beautiful , as everyone claims." He said as he caressed my hand in his.

"May I?" He asked as he indicated to my bow and arrow.

"Of course." I said.

He turned me around and placed his hand on my stomach for a second, making me gasp slightly. He then placed his hand over mine, and raised my arrow again.

"The key is to focus, and keep your aim." He said whispering against my ear as he pulled the string back with my hand in his.

"Keep a firm grip on the handle." He said looking ahead at the target.

"And let go." He said and I turned my head to see the arrow, piercing the small red circle in the middle of the target.

"And that's how you do it." He said smiling again at me.

"Thank you." I said and looked down, feeling completely flustered.

"Your Welcome." He said and continued to look at me.

We both turned our heads when we heard someone clear their throat, and we looked at Arvid who was smirking at us.

"Forgive my manners your highness." Gregor said as he bowed slightly to Arvid.

"There's no need for that, we're going to become family soon. Which reminds me, you're here early aren't you. The wedding isn't for a another week." He said looking at Gregor.

"The king wanted to see me." Gregor said back.

"Oh. He didn't say anything about that this morning, but anyway, have fun. I'll see you two at dinner then." He said and began to walk away smiling slyly at me when he saw me mouthing a 'don't leave me here' at him behind Gregor's back.

Gregor turned around and looked at me, and I quickly composed myself before he could see anything.

"Shall we?" He asked to which I nodded and we began to walk about in the palace gardens.

We spoke about different things, from his country to how he began slaying dragons. All the while, I could feel the eyes of almost everyone, watching us as we walked.

Some of the stares were glares, while others were pure shock. Probably due to seeing me outside of the palace for once.

I sent a prayer of gratitude for all those books that Arkyn had me read growing up, because now I could actually keep the conversation flowing, but I couldn't shake the feeling that he was having this conversation on purpose, probably trying to gage how much I actually knew.

"I must say I'm impressed." He said smiling at me when we reached the palace gates.

"Did you think all I could do was carry babies?" I asked him and immediately regretted it, but some my uneasiness faded when I saw him smirk at me.

"On the contrary. I think there's so much more to you." He said and lifted his hand to caress my face, which I was not prepared for and ended up jolting slightly, which did not go unnoticed by him, but I suppose he chose to ignore it, because he didn't ask me about it.

"Well I should go and see your father now. I had a nice time today. We should do it again sometime." He said to which I nodded and watched him walk through the gates.

I let out a breath I did not know I was holding, when he was a few feet from me and sighed. I wondered if it was always going to be like this. If I was always going to be so nervous and flustered around him, always afraid of saying the wrong thing.

I wondered if there would come a time when I could be normal around him.
