Chapter 2

Asgeir POV

I sat on the window sill and looked out at the night sky.

I just couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned, but still, my eyes were wide awake and eventually after sighing for one hundredth time tonight, I got up and threw on my robe and ended up sitting here on my window sill.

I heard my door slowly open and close, and I found myself smiling without having to turn around since I already knew who it was. Somehow, he always knew when I felt distressed or discomforted. Even when I was still a toddler and would have nightmares, he would come into my room and soothe me. Sometimes, when I didn't want him to leave, he could climb into my bed and hold my tiny frail body against his firm one and soothe me to sleep.

"I knew you'd be awake." Arkyn said and sat down next to me.

"Do you think it's weird that you and I have this connection? That you always seem to know what I'm feeling?" I asked and looked at his eyes.

"Not at all. After Dad gave birth to you, he got so sick, he couldn't even get out bed to take care of you, and I couldn't bear to see anyone else taking care of my little brother, so I did it. I wouldn't let anyone touch you to such an extent, people starting calling you my son." He said laughing as he looked out the window.

"Eighteen years really flew by so fast. It seems like just yesterday you were crying and screaming because you didn't want to be held by anyone but me." He said as he looked back at me and smiled.

"To think you were my age when you took care of me." I said smiling at him.

"Do you think I'm ready? To raise a child of my own when I sometimes still feel like a child." I said looking at him and watching him sigh.

"Honestly, no one is fully prepared to raise a child and each child is different and comes with their own challenges." He said smiling at me and raising his hand to my face. He cupped the side of my face and looked into my eyes.

"But I'll tell you one thing that I know for certain." He said as he caressed my cheek and smiled at me.

" you're so much stronger than you will ever know. Gregor, is more thank lucky to have you ." He said as he kissed my forehead.

"So tell me. What's on your mind." He said as he opened the bottle that he brought and poured someone of it into the glasses that sat on my table.

"I supposed I'm just worried that I'm not exactly what he's expecting. I mean he could have mistook me for someone else. What if he sees me and realizes that he's made a mistake?" I said as I took the cup he was holding out.

"You're worrying too much. He's going to love you just the way you are. Now drink up and get some sleep. In a few days you're getting married, we wouldn't want you looking like you've greeted death itself." He said and took a sip while he looked at me.

I took a sip and smiled when the delicious taste of warm milk and almonds hit my tastebuds. I closed my eyes and savored the taste as I drank the entire goblet.

When I was a child, and couldn't sleep, he would bring me warmed milk with almonds, and after drinking it, he would make me lay on his lap and recite couplets to me. He would run his fingers through my hair while I laid my head on his lap, soothing me till I fell asleep. I smiled at those memories as I drank the last drop and placed the goblet on the table.

He walled closer to me and wiped away the milk that stained my lips and smiled at me. He placed a kiss on my forehead and tucked me in. He sat on the edge of the bed and ran his fingers through my hair while I felt my eyes slowly beginning to feel heavy as the seconds passed by.

"Sleep well." He said and kissed my cheek, before I fell into a deep slumber.

When I opened my eyes again, it was early morning. I stretched a bit and felt my hand on a head of hair. I looked down and saw that Arkyn, had fallen asleep where he sat last night. I smiled and poked his cheek slightly, watching him stir in his sleep. After a few of my pokings, he eventually opened his eyes and stared into mine.

"How did you sleep?" He asked while I still ran my fingers through his hair.

"Like a baby. And you?" I asked as I played with one of the strands of his hair.

"Same. Now get up before father sends his entourage to fetch his precious son" he said as he yawned and got up from the seat he slept on.

"Please we both know I'm only precious to him because I'll be marrying The Slayer."I said shaking my head and getting out of bed.

"Give yourself some credit. We all know you're Father's and Dad's favorite." He said smirking at me and leaving my room.

I shook my head and walked towards the bath that the servants most likely filled just minutes ago, since the water still steaming.

I stripped out of my clothing and got in. I held my breath and submerged myself into the water and stayed there for a couple of seconds. Somehow, I felt like I could think when everything was blocked out and I found that I often did that when I was perturbed.

I pulled myself to the surface and shook my head out, feeling like I had a clear head again. I washed myself throughly and got out. I dressed in my usual garments which were very simple. I was actually the only one among my brothers that did not parade around in the ridiculous colours and clothes they wore.

Instead I stuck to neutral colours and simple garments, anything that wouldn't draw unwanted attention to me.

I ran a comb through my damp hair and made my way down to the dining hall. I stopped when I stood in front of the door and inhaled a huge breath.

I hadn't spoken with my Father or my Dad about my wedding yet, but I was certain that they were aware of my knowledge about it, given my brothers' huge mouths, but this was the very first time, they were going to 'inform me' about it.

For someone that hated attention, all of it was about to be on me, and I couldn't help but feel anxious and nervous, for some unknown reason.

I exhaled and pushed open the doors and walked in.
