Howling Hearts

Chapter 82

It's been days since I've gotten out of my own prison. It's been both heartbreaking and warming at the same time.

My mother hasn't reached out to me yet and although my father has been coming around every day to check up on both me and his grandsons wellbeing my mother hasn't come at all. My father kept saying that it's not because she doesn't love me or care for me but she is mourning.

I knew he was right and honestly I loved her and understood where she was coming from. Losing your child at the hands of your other child is hard to wrap your mind around. I gained a lot of respect from all of the high ranking warriors of our pack including our gamma which in return made me proud of myself too.

Although most of it was my wolf without her we would've probably still been stuck within a big mess.

I blew over my steaming hot coffee looking out over the Los angles view from our living room.

I sat snug in my mates lap leaning my head on his heart hearing it beat. A sound so close to mine that I couldn't think of living without it.

It was a sound that had become so addicting and so necessary to my whole existence. A necessity just as large and important as air and water.

Suddenly Damian walked in with two sets of footsteps following close to his. I sniffed the air and picked up on their scent immediately.

I jumped up onto my feet and ran over to Layla hugging her tightly.

Both her and Riley looked terribly sleep deprived and unkempt.

"What kind of train hit you" I spoke my thought.

"Yes" Layla said as she slumped down onto the couch.

"Her names Dawn" she said as she closed her eyes and curled up getting ready to sleep. I giggled a little at Layla's actions and words.

"What you laughing about Luna your turn isn't too far." Riley said as she stood next to me with her baby wrapped onto her chest.

Dawn looked so angelic while she was asleep it was hard to understand how something so tiny and innocent could be a train reckless enough to cause this to two grown adults. "She's too beautiful" I said as I watched her s**k away at her pacifier that was digging into her fat little rosy cheeks. "Thank you Luna" Riley said as she smiled down at her child.

A sense of pride and complete adoration lining her tired features. Something I couldn't wait to experience myself.

Just then that smile faded and disappeared without a trace. Like it never happened.

"Thank you for the stay Luna and Alpha Silvermane and all the help with the baby and the birth from your pack.

But I believe I have overstayed my welcome and it the time to leave has come so I came to thank you and bid you farewell" She said as her eyes started to become glossy and worry overcrowd them. I shook my head. "NO" I said in a stern tone.

Riley and I have become close over the last couple of weeks and I just can't bring it over my heart to let her live a life as a rogue single mother.

The whole room turned to look at me all very surprised by my action.

"Where will you go riley" I asked as I turned to face her head on. She shook her head slightly while she shrugged softly.

"I...I don't know yet but ill figure it out" I shook my head as I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"Do you really want to figure it out in the middle of the woods in a makeshift shelter while fearing what other rogues might do to you or worse Dawn?"

I said breaking my eye contact with her to look down at the sleeping angle that clutched her chest. Her little finger were twirling themselves in her blue cowl neck shirt.

Silence ran through the room in a chaotic manner. I could feel the worry and stress engulf Riley as a tear dropped onto my arm.

I met her eyes once more and saw the trail of tears down her cheek and dangling at her jaw. "Then what?" I sighed heavily and smiled at her "Stay"

"Wh...What" She and the whole room went into total shock.

All except Lucian whom was eyeing me from the chair watching this with a large amount of curiosity with his finger on his lips and his gaze fixated on me.

"I want to have you be part of the pack"

"Really?" They all broke out in unison again.

"SHHH the baby is trying to sleep....

Anyway Yes really that is if you're ok with me being your Luna" I said winking at her making fun of the past. A shy giggle escaped her mouth.

Just then Lucian stood up from his chair and walked over to me. He placed his had around my waist. A shock of lightning shot through me.

And I bit my lip trying to calm myself down. I suspect Lucian saw it because when I met his eyes L**t swam in them like it was a sport.

"I think that's a good idea. Riley we will give you time to think about our proposal but we would like to know within twenty four hours" he said in his Alpha tone.

"Yes my answer is yes" Riley replied without hesitating.

"I would love to be part of your pack" She continued. My smile grew so big I could feel it tugging at my ears.

"Great we will speak with the elders tonight and prepare for the initiation" Lucian Said as he smiled brightly. "Thank you" Riley nodded and bowed before us. "No need for that" I said as I helped her back up. Just then dawn woke up and started crying. "Sorry Alpha and Luna I think she is hungry will you excuse me?"

She asked kindly as she hopped up and down as a way to sooth her daughter.

We both nodded and as she turned I touched dawns head making her calm. And soon her silhouette disappeared around the corner.
