Chapter 422
Phineas had arranged for a driver to drop Morwenna off at the entrance of Windcharm Villas. Morwenna walked in on her own. It had been ages since she'd been back to Windcharm Villas.
Back in the day, Adelaide had set her sights on becoming the lady of Windcharm Villas. Morwenna had no love lost for Stuart then, and had once handed the keys of Windcharm Villas straight to Adelaide, only for them to find their way back to her. With a self-mocking chuckle, Morwenna thought about how Stuart had really pulled out all the stops to keep her, even being cavalier with his own house keys. She couldn't help but think of the trust she had placed in Stuart, and the betrayals that followed.
Morwenna made her way to the study of Windcharm Villas, searching for something Phineas had asked for, but to no avail. She turned on Stuart's personal computer. The screen asked for a password. After a moment's thought, she typed in a combination of numbers and letters, and just like that, the computer unlocked. This was the password Stuart had shared with her during one of their computer sessions. "Huh, he didn't even bother changing the password. Guess he really thought I was too naive to be a threat," she mused.
After finding out that Stuart had orchestrated a car accident, Morwenna saw deceit in every aspect of him. Yet, she had forgotten that Stuart, a man who trusted no one, would always be on his guard. Morwenna found a file on the computer, containing the indemnity letter for the embezzlement of funds by Reuben. This letter was meant for Phineas after he had covered a billion-dollar deficit, planned by Stuart as a sort of consolation. After all, with Reuben already facing charges for poisoning Norbert in an attempt to murder, the embezzlement wasn't Stuart's primary concern. He was more interested in seeing Phineas squirm as he coughed up the billion to cover the losses.
Morwenna quickly understood why Phineas wanted this document. With this letter, he wouldn't have to cover the deficit, leaving Stuart to fill the gaping financial hole himself. Sitting in front of the computer, Morwenna made some alterations to the document. She also recorded her changes, rendering the document legally ineffective. After making the alterations, she used Stuart's computer to send the file directly to Phineas.
Upon receiving the document at the family mansion, Phineas was over the moon. He had always known Morwenna would get him what he wanted. Even though Stuart's initial intentions with Morwenna were dubious, Phineas had seen a change in Stuart's attitude. A cold- hearted man like Stuart compromising for someone was unheard of. Of course, there was no need to share these observations with Morwenna.
After completing her task, Morwenna didn't linger. She walked out of the villa. She glanced towards the market, reminiscing about her first job there, gutting fish just to provide for Stuart, wanting him to have a better life. It felt like a lifetime ago, though it had only been a few months. The driver was waiting outside, and Morwenna left without looking back.
No sooner had Morwenna left, than Fletcher Vaughn came rushing in. Shortly after, Stuart's friends, Matthew Green, Jack, Brian, and Samuel, all arrived in a hurry. Jack, with his military background, asked sternly, "What's the situation?" The always-scheming Brian frowned, "Stuart's not at Rosefrost Hollow, so what's the rush calling us here?" "Somebody accessed Stuart's computer, sent out some files," Fletcher said with a grave expression.
