Chapter 91 (Clare)
Clare never considered them so close, a Caster and an Angel, together, sitting under the same sky. Different blood, but still brothers in a way, and there she was, guilt filling inside her. What had she done, kissing Kole? She couldn't understand his resilience before, but now it stood as clear as the setting sun behind the two men. She'd called him a mere distraction and kissed him, never thinking about Kalbreal and the implications of her actions. She now understood it, realizing what he had to lose.
Clare spotted Nathan and the others further down surrounding a tree. She stepped out from the one she hid behind to face the both of them, Caster and Angel staring at her. Seeing Kole, his eyes unfolding everything she needed to know, as he turned his tormented face away.
She looked at Kalbreal, not knowing how to see him anymore, because at that moment, in front of her, sat a guy, in love with a girl, with the hope that she loved him too. But Clare knew, she, who he loved, loved another. Was it infatuation? she wouldn't know, not until she faced the unknown stranger- William, whom her freshly wounded heart secretly desired.
All Clare knew at that moment was that she had definitely caught the eye of the handsome Angel and Kole's reasons for choosing to deny her. She didn't fault him. She knew in her heart, walking towards them sitting silently next to Kalbreal, that she herself couldn't bear to lose her Angel.
The others joined them, on the floor, Calub sitting between her legs, his arms resting on her knees. The white-haired girl sat next to Clare, breaking the ice, "I'm Safira Starcrest, Nathans lover." Clare put her arm around her, "I'm Clare, the sister, are you Elvan."
Nathan shouted in Safira's face, "I told you." back to his cheerful self, he laid flat in between Safira's legs, "Sister-sister, she's a Lightwatcher, I told her not to dye her hair, Elvan wannabe."
Tash yelled, "It's better than the blue." They all laughed, except Clare who just smiled, not knowing the joke, shared amongst them.
Phillip walked toward them, she didn't know where he had disappeared to, "I'm sorry Clare, I was a dick."
She bent her head back and lifted her hands, gesturing that he should hug her, which he did. Everybody started jumping on top of them besides Kalbreal and Kole. Kole got up and smiled, walking slowly to the door, leaving the others hugging and laughing.
Calub was screaming, "Get off, you guys are suffocating me," still stuck under the lot.
Kalbreal sitting on the side of Clare, amused, pulled Calub out by his feet. Clare was stuck under, her back flat on the ground. Nathan got up first, flinging himself to the ground. The others finally throwing themselves on the floor. Laying under the sky, soaking in the remains of the sun.
Nathan said, "Oh yeah, Clare got her memory back."
Calub smiled, "So does that mean you are going to kick my butt?"
Clare laughed, "No, I can't remember everything, when I try to think of my training or anything pertaining to the Descendants, it feels like it's still being blocked somehow."
"Your memories back." Kalbreal answered, "but as long as your body fights its true nature, your mind will reject your full memory from revealing itself, especially that part. But it's also linked to your Legacies, removing it meant also removing your memory of it."
Calub said, "So hypothetically speaking if her Legacies were to return, she would regain her full memory unaltered right?"
Kalbreal nodded, "I took it away myself, it would be impossible for it to return so quickly, she might have her gifts and minor strength for now, but that's it."
Nathan smiled slightly, changing the subject, "Tell Clare about the Watchers."
Kalbreal faced her and she faced him, but not before she caught a glimpse of Kole screening them through the upstairs window, drinking from a bottle, which Clare knew wasn't juice.
She smiled at Kalbreal, "Start with once upon a time."
He laughed as she faced the
darkening sky, but proceeded as she
asked, "Once upon a time, when hell seized to exist, lived angels and humans in harmony, all under the protection of the watchful eyes of Adonai, THE GREATEST CREATOR. One day Adonai said, "I shall appoint two hundred of my Seraphs to stay on earth, you will be called IGORI."
And just like that, two hundred of et
them came to existence on earth: Their jobs were simple, spy on the humans but do not help them and do not befriend them. For years the IGORI obeyed, until one, in particular, Azazy-el saw a beautiful maiden.
Her skin was as white as the purest soul and unable to help himself, fell in love and married the maiden. He stayed on earth for many years, defying Adonai's orders, and bore six beautiful children. But all was
short-lived and soon, others
followed him. Revealing secrets of
the Infinity to mankind, making them wise and curious. Teaching the humans trade, weaponry and science thereby empowering them. Adonai, angered by their betrayal, banished them from the Infinity and
cast them into a place so evil and treacherous. But for the first
betrayal, he ordered his loyal
Raphael to trap Azazy-el in the
mountain of Dudael. Now, however, Azazy-el roams free."
She looked at him, "Is any of it true?"
Nathan laughed, "Yes, unfortunately, which is why we are all here."
Tash added, sitting up, "If the Igori didn't fall there wouldn't have been a need to create us."
Clare got up off the floor, "Anybody has a phone?"
Tash lifted her hand, pointing, "They all inside, why?" "Time!"
Kalbreal answered, "Six, are you tired?" "No, I'm hungry, is there anything to eat here?"
Kole stood by the door, it was
another entry to the house. Clare gazing tiredly at him, decided to talk with him. She moved closer toward him. Ignoring her attempts, he walked back into the house. But she went after him, following him through the passage and pulled at his arm. But he didn't turn around, he continued to walk to the back part of the house, still ignoring her efforts to talk to him, to reason with him.
He stood outside, face to the pool, with the sliding doors open. Clare paused by the door, her nerves started to seep through. It was darkening where he stood, still holding a bottle of alcohol. She moved closer, his back still facing bottle. She
her, drinking from his still heel.net
gently took the bottle from his hand
and turned him around. Content
He turned away, not wanting to look at her. She put the bottle down on the floor and turned him around again. He resisted harshly, "I'm hoping you will leave Clare."
"I'm sorry, for what I said, you aren't just a drunk and you definitely don't deserve the status of a distraction, for lust."
Kole spoke with a silent shudder, "You really shouldn't fool yourself, Love if you think I care what you think."
She held his face with her eyes, tugging on his arm to face her, "I didn't know that Kalbreal and you were so close if I would have known."
He shouted, "What?" his small eyes, stuck on her like needles, "You would what? Huh? You wouldn't have kissed me, Twice?"
She took a step back, "No, I wouldn't have."
Kalbreal jumped down from the roof, the floor underneath him trembled slightly. His eyes bewildered, confused, unbelieving, "You KISSED him?"
She neared herself to Kalbreal as Kole vanished with his bottle. He must've known Kalbreal was listening, "I didn't mean to, I swear, I was messed up, it meant nothing."
He kept his eyes on her, soundless. Clare could see the tension in his shoulders. She now realized that his feelings for her were not new or shallow, but something which had developed over a period of time."It was stupid," she didn't falter in her apology, her green eyes locking on his.
"Clare don't, you don't have to apologize to me. I could read your mind if I choose, but would give you a chance to answer truthfully."
She touched his arms, he was wearing a light shirt which was rolled up and opened three buttons down, revealing the markings on his chest, her hands itched to touch it, but she kept them on his arms.
