Historical Holograms From A Runaway Punk

Chapter Hologram Recording Transcript: June 11, 2097

I’m feeling better now since you can see my bandage is gone and my hair is its natural color. I guess it’s brown? It’s been a while since Zora rescued me from Goat Island. Our lighthouse village has grown too.

Every time I try to throw this Mil-RAT away, Zi-Yen would find it and bring it back to me. Then we would fuss over who should keep it because I hate it even more.

I am making this recording because a message made its way to Zora from the pirates. They said that the Godfather survived the attack on Goat Island and vowed revenge on Zora, to get her back. He almost died because of her.

Ever since we left that island, I haven’t been the same since. I have difficulty accepting what my mother told me or who I thought was my mother. And, I keep hearing these voices from Tech City. I don’t know how to control them. I almost think someone is talking to me, but no one is there. I told Zora about it, and she wants me to stick with Nami to help me navigate the jumbled-up jargon that has seemed to infiltrate my mind.

“Why can’t I make the voices stop?” I asked Nami.

“You gained an ability, a skill you have to master. Once you master, then comes peace of mind. You understand?” she said.

“I guess.”

“You will.”

Nami taught me how to anchor to a tree if my mind was getting flooded with voices. It was like a mind-meld in which the tree showed me how to root in the soil. I felt a little calmer after that. I would imagine becoming the trunk while all the leaves were like all the little voices, all connected and branched towards a giant branch, down the base of the trunk and into my mind.

Soon, I could map out all the voices and where they came from. I also gained the ability to navigate the voices and each mind. I could access them anytime, creating a window I could open and close.

Nami had me practice this new ability every day, so I got better at opening and closing the window that led to the tree of voices and minds from Tech City.
