His Love In Time: Volume I

Chapter 10: Exodus

TODAY IS A SAD DAY, ESPECIALLY AFTER what happened last night. Moses and I give one final warning to let the Hebrews go, but Ramesses was not having it. Because of the lack of compassion on the Pharaoh’s part, Azrael had no choice but to take the soul of every first-born Egyptian. Elder, man, child, everyone was at risk. And because Azrael is the real collector of souls, no one is safe. Not unless they were Hebrew.

Moses and I have to make the long hike back to the palace. We both know what to expect, and this is going to be the longest walk of our lives. Aaron came in to help just in case Pharaoh does something that was not called for.

He is not known for his merciful heart.

We walk into the throne room to see a crying Pharaoh holding the corpse of his young boy. The boy had a white tint to him and completely motionless. It is not like Ramesses to cry. Yet, he is bawling like a baby.

“What is it Moses?” he asks, completely monotone.

“Let. My. People. Go.”

The Pharaoh looks at his son, laying there in his arms, for what seems like an eternity. With one arm cradling his head and the other arm stroking his face. Ramesses gives a deep sigh and looks at Moses, Aaron, and I with an intense look. “You have until sundown to take your people and leave.”

“Thank you,” Moses continues. “And for what it’s worth. I am sorry that it came down to this.” The three of us turn to share the incredible news.

“Moses?” Ramesses continues as Moses turns to look at him. “If your Hebrews are not gone by sundown, my army and I will track you down.”

Moses looks at him in horror. We never thought that it would come to this. We walk faster, to warn the people.

But the further we got from Ramesses the more scared we became. “I will track and kill each child, Moses! I will rape and kill each woman! And to the men, I will gut them like pigs!”

The three of us ran. We knew that regardless of how fast we are, nothing would stop him from trying to kill each and every one of God’s people. It was only a matter of time.

“Friends!” I yell as we arrive at the camp.

“We must leave now, we have a tiny window to grab what we want and go.”

To our surprise, the entire village was packed and ready to go. Their donkeys are weighed down to with tents, clothes, food, old pots, and pans.

Moses says nothing while looking around at his entire group of people. The people were beginning to lead their donkeys outside the village and starting their journey. I never noticed just how many people were in the town. Looks like more than half a million people migrating towards the Red Sea.

Moses, Aaron, and I climb onto a camel’s back. While on top, we get ready to take our extremely long journey to the new promised land. Hoping that we would not come into any contact with the Pharaoh.

While we are trying to leave, several Egyptian people are trying to give all of the men and women gifts to encourage them to move quickly. However, the longer we wait, the less time we have. “Friends! There is no time to wait, we must leave, now!” Moses says, trying to get everyone to hustle.

We embark on the long journey east, with not a whole lot of time left to spare. Moses and I remember the horrifying words that left Ramesses mouth before we went. Nothing would make me angrier than him catching up. Being an angel, I have to know about the bible pretty well. I do not remember anything about the Pharaoh being like this. But then again, this is the first time I have experienced this.

“I can’t believe it, after four-hundred years, we are free,” Aaron says, happily.

“But this task is not going to be easy, by any means,” I say, worried.

“What do you mean, Jacob?” Aaron says.

“We are on foot, brother. Ramesses is in a chariot,” Moses interjects.

Moses walks forward to the front of the group. It has been nearly a week and at sundown, and we have walked quite a distance. We stop right in front of the Red Sea. I have a feeling, however, that the quiet rest will not last very long.

We made camp for the night, hoping that Ramesses just wanted us out of his city. Moses, on the other hand, comes by my side to give me a warning. “Jacob, I need you to do me a favor,”

“What is it, Moses?”

“You have been there with me for as long as I can remember,” Moses says to me.

“Yes, I have.”

“I need you to guard us during the night, just in case. But let me know should we need to leave, right away.”

“As you wish.”

That night, after walking for over a week, I was worried that the time was near that Ramesses was going to make his presence known. At first, it seems like we are “home” free.

I also know that there is a lot more to worry about than just Egypt. Cain is out there, somewhere, with his little group of followers. Eve became Hagar. Hagar became one of Noah’s family members. Did not get to know her though so I cannot say much. She later adopted a Hebrew child that she found in the river. How is she able to live for so long, without aging? She does not appear to be a vampire. But I did leave after Cain became one.

In the distance, I can hear a faint growl of the vampire sort. Stepping forward, into the moonlight. I can see a man standing, growling, but it was not Cain. It also was not the Pharaoh.

‘This is not a fight for the Hebrew’s,’ I thought to myself.

“This is a fight for us,” Gabriel says as he steps out of a hidden portal.

“Woah!”

“Sorry,” he says.

“How many portals are there?”

“On Earth? Billions. In Heaven? I know of two.”

“Well, give a guy a little notice, would ya?”

“Fair enough.”

Gabriel and I march towards the man that we both see in the distance. We climb up over the ridge. To the left, I see an army. The Egyptian military is going to make their attack in the morning. But to the right, just as predicted, Cain’s vampires. “His numbers have grown,” I say to Gabriel.

“I’ll go down to get a better look,” Gabriel says, jumping off the cliff.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a vampire charge at me. I meet the vampire head-on, dropping down to sweep the vampire’s legs. I twirl, quickly, to get behind him. I wrap my arm around the vampire’s neck, give a tight squeeze of my bicep and pull his head off. The body turns to ash.

I turn to notice another vampire is charging me, with one aiming a bow and arrow at me. I launch a spinning back kick to the face of the first vampire, snapping its neck. Arrows are flying past my head, as I tuck and roll. I knock the bow of his hand, catching it before it hits the floor. I use the string of the bow to turn another vampire into ash.

Gabriel picks up the bow and arrows and continues on, killing one, then two more vampires. Together, he and I are killing off the entire clan without much difficulty.

“Knock it off!” Cain says in the distance.

I turn to face Cain, who is advancing towards me. He is gripping a sword in his hand. After spinning the sword to the side of him, he thrusts the sword forward. I pull my sword out and – ching! – The two blades spread out. The sounds of rasp and clang of metal on metal as I manage to trap the sword on the ground.

For a moment, Cain and I are staring at one another, eye to eye, with our swords locked together. Cain kicks the swords out and causes me to fall to my knees. I quickly catch my balance. Cain and I begin a fast sword fight. Both of us are fueled by his super-human speed and my spiritual gifts. We lunge, we block, we spin, we slice, back and forth across the land.

Cain lands a powerful strike on my shoulder, the sword-edge cutting deep into my flesh. I scream out in pain. Cain retracts the sword to attack again. I look up and notice his arm is exposed. I take the opportunity to cut his arm before hurting me again. Cain leans over in pain, holding his arm. But before my eyes I watch his skin heal. I began to worry that the curse gave him these powers. “You’re not going to beat me, Jacob. Lilith gave me gifts to live forever and have the powers of a god.”

Cain jumps and flips over me. I spin around to swing my dagger. But I hit nothing but air. Cain jumps again, and again, allowing me to miss every time as I slice through the air. The flipping over my head was beginning to be annoying. I am left with no choice but to try to catch him in the act of the flip. I swing my blade upwards and cut Cain, making him fall.

Cain stands up and growls in pain. He runs off, with his entire clan following.

An out of breath Gabriel and I are looking at the distance to see them all gone. While the sun is beginning to rise, we knew that we needed to make our way back to camp, or at least I do.

As we make our way back to camp, Gabriel keeps running and vanishes through another dark portal. ‘I need to find out where these are,’ I think to myself.

The sun has risen, and the Egyptians are ready to charge. The only way that anyone can go is by through the sea. I approach Moses to let him in on a little inside secret, “Moses?”

He looks at me and says, “Jacob?”

“Trust in God. He has given you the power,” I tell him. He looks at the nearby hill and can see Ramesses approaching fast. The horses’ hooves are pounding the desert dirt hard. The squeaks from wheels on chariots echo in the valley. Ramesses is at the lead of them all.

“Look, just as I thought, they are coming!” Ira says.

“Knock it off, Ira!” Moses says. “Trust in the Lord, and He will provide a way!”

“Are we going to walk on water?” Ira scoffs. I chuckle for a moment at the question. “Or is a cloud going to come down and carry us over?”

“If we have to fight, we will!” Aaron says.

The Hebrews are scared about what is on its way. If God does not find a way out of this mess, soon, the Hebrews are going to either be dead or slaves again.

Moses looks at the crowd, depressingly.

“Moses!” I yell. “Use your staff!”

Moses looks at his staff and joy runs across his face. “Join me, friends and family! God will provide a way!”

The crowd, regardless of what is approaching, believes him and follow him. Moses walks to the edge of the water, raises his staff up high. He drills the staff into the Red Sea saying, “God! Provide the way!”

Just as the staff touches the water, a strong hurricane force winds flow through the air. A funnel cloud of fire comes down from the sky. The clash of the funnel hitting the water forces all but a few of the Hebrew to fall. The sea rises up high, and a high wall of water stretches from the seafloor to the clouds.

Moses yells at the Hebrews, “Let’s go!”

All of the Hebrews got up and began running into the valley of the sea. While running, we can see sea creatures along the walls. If we are unable to hurry, the walls will inevitably close. The sea floor is completely dry, making it possible for everyone to run and obtain solid footing while we run. Aaron, in the front, encourages all the Hebrews to press on while Moses in the back is pushing everyone through the void. The Egyptians, however, are gaining on us. Ira and his friends are not sure.

“We’re going to die!” Ira calls out.

Moses comments back, “Would you rather be a slave?”

By now everyone is in between the sky-high walls of water. As the rest of the Hebrews are running, I couldn’t help but notice that Pharaoh and the Egyptians are standing there in awe at the seas.

They continue to run after Moses.

After running for their lives, the sign of hope is in front. The sun, burns bright, as we run through the other end of the Red Sea opening. I turn around to notice that the sea is already beginning to close. ‘Is there enough time to get everyone across?’ I think to myself.

Just as the last few Hebrews race across the floor, the water collapses on all of the Egyptian armies. Ira, however, drowned with them.

Moses, on the shoreline, looks across to see Pharaoh standing there watching him. “Thank you, God,” Moses says. “You are not a god. God is here with my people, and He is the only God.”

Even though the sounds of the water and the distance between us, I can hear Ramesses scream, “MOSES!”

I smile and turn around while the Hebrews and I ride off into the distance, towards the promised land… again.

We rode through most of the next few months. When the animals and the people got tired, since all of them except for a few are on foot, we would stop and camp for the night. During camp, Moses and the children sing the night away. Miriam had a song, even Aaron had a song. It was like I was in heaven again, hearing everyone praising God and His holy name.

It didn’t take long before we reached Mount Sinai. There we made a pretty solid camp. We were going to rest for a few days. The only problem was; we are all running out of the water. There are so many places to find water in the desert.

“Moses?!” one of the village people call out.

“Yes, Orias?”

“If there really is a god, and if God is here with us, He could bring us some water!” Orias says.

“Have you learned nothing?” Moses asks. “After everything that has happened, you still have your doubts on whether God is here or not?”

“With this, we will no longer doubt,” Orias says.

Moses looks down in despair. Not sure what to do, he decides to start climbing Mount Sinai. I observed him to see what he is going to do.

“Israelites! God has delivered you from the Pharaoh! He has protected you from certain death! He split the waters to help us get across! Now, you dare to test the Lord?!” Moses continues. “Who do you think you are?”

“Jacob,” a voice says to me. It was God’s voice, there was no other voice in the entire universe like it.

“God?”

“Go to Moses and touch his shoulder. When he touches the big rock, water will flow from it.”

Without hesitation, I marched myself to where Moses is standing. The entire village was watching him, mocking him.

“Moses,” I say, arriving at his rock.

“What is it, Jacob?”

I place my hand on his shoulder and whisper into his ear, “Touch the rock near you and God will provide water below.”

The moment that Moses’s staff touches the rock, it immediately exploded into a giant waterfall. There a beautiful stream flowing down from the mountain. Providing crystal clear, clean water. The entire village cheered for the sight of the water.

While Moses and I, embark on a drink of the water. After walking for months at a time, this is probably one of the best tasting water I have ever had.

“Jacob,” God, chimes in.

“Yes, Lord?”

“I need you to take Moses to the top of the mountain. I will meet you both there. While we are there, I am going to give him a new covenant.”

“I understand, Father,” I say.

“Moses, please come with me,” I say to Him. “Moses, you will need to note down what God is going to tell you.”

“Moses, I am the Lord your God. I want you to keep track of the commandments that I will give you.”

“Yes, Father!”

Moses and God begin to have a private conversation between the two of them. This reminds me of my job at home. Whenever someone is standing on the platform, God is talking to them privately. No one can hear what is going on, what is being said. All I know is the result of that conversation.

While God is talking to Moses, I am patiently waiting, and looking around. Off in the distance, I can see a man climbing the other side of the mountain. It was Orias. He never liked Moses, he was worse that Ira, but he is still God’s people. I couldn’t help but notice another figure standing on top, but he wasn’t watching Orias, he was watching Moses and me. It was Azazel, and if I didn’t know any better, I would say that he was standing in Divinity.

Divinity is a place that only angels and God can be in. It is where we can guard humans and watch over them, without being seen. In all of history, there have only been a few people that we have allowed into Divinity. Enoch is one of them, but just under God’s command. What Azazel was doing, standing there watching, in the Divinity I do not know. He is one of Lucifer’s followers.

Orias made it to the top of the mountainside, sitting next to Azazel. He was observing the beautiful surroundings, looking at everything. The beautiful tree’s the flowing water that Moses helped create. There was a cliff higher up that also had a waterfall. I watched Orias stand up and walk to the waterfall and splash his face inside. The rams were playing on that side; the eagles were gliding around. All of the beautiful animals that were up here were making their presence known. After splashing himself with the water, he took a deep breath showing how refreshing the water is. He sat and prayed for a moment. Knowing that Moses was in good hands, I wanted to find out what Azazel was up to. So, I fly to the other side of the mountain to investigate. Azazel is keeping a watchful eye on me.

I fly into Divinity to become invisible to Orias. “Azazel, what are you doing here?” I ask him.

“I am here to start recruiting for Lucifer, Jacob,” he replies.

“Recruiting?”

“Yes, you didn’t think that demons were just created, did you?”

“Honestly, yes.”

“We wanted Ira, he was the ideal pick, but then we heard Orias complain about him not being chosen.”

“But how are you going to do it?”

“I’m going to take him!”

“Then you’re going to have to go through me.”

Azazel flips over me and kicks Orias in the head. A scared Orias rolls into safety to watch what was going on. But he cannot see anything. I dive in front of Orias to block Azazel from hurting him anymore.

Azazel leaps at me, smashing great hits into my head. I duck and weave to punch Azazel’s side. Orias is watching from behind but still cannot see anything. Azazel and I fight, with me pushing him away from Orias. I dive into Azazel, smashing him against the ground. Azazel blocks a punch and hits me in the head. Azazel moves in for the kill, but I kick him to the ground. Azazel begins to thrash in agony at me, knowing he has been beaten in this short fight.

While Azazel is struggling, a passed out Orias lays there. I take out my halo and focus on it, hard. It creates a portal. I pick Orias up and throw him over my shoulders. “Let’s go, friend, I will get you to safety.” I step through the portal.

The portal let us out in what looks like to be a basement of sorts. This is not a basement made in biblical times. ‘Why here?’ I thought to myself. In the corner of the basement, there is a cot. I lay Orias down on this cot and proceed to head upstairs. The door, however, is locked. I retreat back downstairs to Orias. To get an idea of where we are. My mission with Moses is not done. I notice a newspaper sitting on a nearby desk. “Am I home?” I say quietly. I grab the newspaper and look at the date. “Las Vegas Sun, August fifteenth, nineteen eighty-five,” I say quietly, again with a smile.

I turn to notice that the portal is still open, but closing. In the basement, I can see several church-related artifacts. Assuming he is going to be safe here, I jump through the portal just before it closes.

Azazel is still on the mountaintop. “Where is he?!” he demands to know.

“He is in a place that you will never know,” I reply. “Now you will never have Orias. He is in a house of God.”

“Curse you Jacob!” he screams and jumps through a portal.

“One of these days, I’m going to have to perfect that.”

I look over to see Moses is still on the mountaintop. I make my way to him, to see the conversation has come to an end.

“Commandment number one,” God says out loud. “You shall not worship any other gods before Me!” A giant figure appears before him. The entire Israelite village can see God appear. He appears as a glowing figure of light to Moses and all the people. But to me, I can see the man that showed me the way so long ago.

Moses begins to write down the first commandment.

“Commandment number two!” in the light next to Him, idols begin to form. The fertility dolls, the idols for wealth, and health. “You shall not bow down to any form of idols. I am a jealous God, and will ignore you if you choose to do so.”

Millions of people below begin to throw away their idols.

“Commandment number three, do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain,” God continues. “Commandment number four! I created all of the heavens and the earth in six days, on the seventh day I rested. You, too, shall keep the seventh day holy. The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. No one is allowed to work on the seventh day, not even your livestock.”

Moses continues to write.

“Commandment number five. Honor your father and your mother,” He continues. “Six, seven, eight, and nine all will be your spiritual growth. Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, and do not bear false witness against your neighbor.”

Moses writes.

“The last but not least commandment I will give you is to not covet. Do not be jealous of others that have more. Be faithful to me, and I will open the floodgates of blessings onto you.”

The thunder and lightning all around the mountaintop. I look down and see the people trembling and afraid of what they have witnessed. Aaron says, “Moses, please speak to us! If God speaks to us, we will die!”

A smiling Moses, he chuckles and says, “Do not fear God. He has come to test all of you. The fear that you while have is a good thing so you will not sin.”

“Moses,” God says before we go down the mountain. “You have seen that I have talked to you. You do not have to make anything to be with me. But make me an altar to sacrifice the burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. Where I record My name, I will come to you, and I will bless you. Do not use the alter to build on it. If you do, I will not bless you. Remember, if you care for the altar, I will care for you!”

“Bless you, God,” Moses says.

We start to walk down the mountain to get to the people.

“Jacob?” God says.

I stop, turn, and look up at God. He shrinks down to an average size, inside the Divinity. “Yes, Father?”

“Your time here is done. You may return home.”

“What?!”

“To control your halo, you must think of the time that you remember the most. If you do it right, you will be able to go at that time. That is the secret to your halo.”

“Then how did I go to the time of my birth for Orias?”

“Because you arrived at the city and date that you were born. You thought about your birthday when you stepped through the portal.”

“Oh.”

“So, hold your halo, think, and believe. Watch what happens.”

I take my halo off of my belt, close my eyes, and think about Limbo City. I think about the long line. I think about Saint Peter. I think about my beautiful wife, Lynn. A portal opens from my halo. I step through.

I am home, the vibrant red skies, the streets of a rainbow. The purple ocean with gold wave caps. Finally, I am home!

I look around to get re-familiar with everything, it has been a while. The long line to my left. Behind me is the tall building of Eternity. I look at the Pearly Gates and see Saint Peter. I begin to run. To my right I see… me. I see Azazel near the elevator. I see Orias in line.

“Oh no,” I say to myself. I had returned to my timeline, but not to when I was supposed to return. “Now what?”
