Chapter 75
Scott POV.
"I'm excited to meet her." Rika giggled and I rolled my eyes. After half an hour of driving, we arrived at the hospital. Camille unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car quickly. Rika frowned at her action and I chose to ignore her. I had been ignoring her venomously since yesterday. I didn't like her behaviour but I caused her too much pain and made her change completely. It was my fault. I was ready to endure whatever she was willing to give me. My goal was to make her forgive me, which was damn difficult.
"I don't like this version of Camille," Rika snorted once Camille disappeared into the hospital.
"I don't like it either but I deserve it."
"She treats me coldly like I am her enemy."
"She must have a reason."
"I don't think so. I never expected this kind of treatment from her. That's so disappointing! Rika's face turned glum.
"Well, we'll talk about it later. Let's check on my beautiful daughter." I grinned while unclasping my seatbelt.
"Let's go..." She jumped out of the car, and we headed straight for the hospital. "Do you know her room number?"
"Yup." We walked into the elevator and pressed the 11th button.
"I have been wondering one thing since last night." She looked at me with a curious gaze. "Why didn't you try your blood for a transplant?"
I ran my fingers through my hair, suddenly getting annoyed by her question. "Mind your own business, Rika," I said, making her eyebrows snap into a questioning look. "What matters is that she is safe and sound."
"Yeah, but I was curious." She half shrugged and brushed this topic away.
We reached Colette's room. I was about to step into it but Camille blocked my way with a grim expression. "You're not allowed to meet her."
"What? But why..." My jaw clenched harder as I stared at her coldly. "Are you serious?"
Conan stepped behind her. His eyes were burning with lava as he gave a death glare. His pissed expression was balm to my wound. He was pissing me off the night Camille celebrated her thirtieth birthday. I hated the way he enjoyed my grief. "He is her father." Rika stepped up next to me, snapping at her friend. "How could you stop him?"
"If he were her real father, he wouldn't ask for sex to save her life." Camille gritted out, her eyes burning into mine. "He made dirty deals to protect his own daughter."
Rika looked at me, her eyes shining with displeasure. For a moment I wanted to fight for Colette but then I stepped back and turned around to leave them. My hands clenched into tight fists as I wanted to hit something very strongly to let out my anger. I was angry. I was so fucking angry. If I didn't put that condition between us, I would never be able to keep Camille to myself. She would marry that bastard Conan and never come back to me.
I have never been this scared in my damn lifetime but this woman... I sighed heavily and plopped into a chair in the waiting room, thinking about my life. Camille was making my life truly miserable. She was playing this kind of game with me. She was well aware of how much I loved Colette, but she refused to meet me. This was her small act of revenge for breaking up with Conan. I made their relationship break.
"She's behaving like a bitch!" Rika sat down next to me. She also looked annoyed. "Her behaviour makes me hate her. I have never thought that I would ever hate that woman in my entire life." "Don't feel sorry for me!" I snapped.
"Trust me, I don't feel sorry for you. I'm just thinking about your little girl who loves you unconditionally. When you asked me last night to check on Colette. I visited her and you should have seen her face, how excited she looked when I told her that you would visit her tomorrow." Rika smiled. "She loves you, Scott. You should not have done this to Camille. If you don't, she might let you see your daughter."
"I have no idea why my mind is messed up!" I grabbed my head in frustration. "The only person I want to own at this moment is Camille. I wanted to keep her with me no matter what the price, Rika. I love her so dearly."
"You did a terrible thing to her. She needs time. Give her time, maybe she will realise later how much she loves you because that woman has been in love with you since she was just eleven. She sleeps with Samuel because he has your face." She laughed at this thought. "You never listened to her. You always ignored her. You never heard her pleas and begs. She has been craving your love for so long."
"Why are you here, Rika, to add insult to my injury?" I grumbled.
"I'm sorry," she muttered, looking away. "Would you like some coffee?"
"Yeah, I'd like to..." I sighed, giving her a small smile. "I can't thank you enough, Rika."
"For what?" She frowned. "You helped me save my home and pay off all my debts. It's nothing. My favours are not free of cost."
"You're risking your friendship for me."
"It was Camille who risked her friendship by getting involved with Conan Arthur. He was about to auction my house and she stayed silent, did nothing. I took a hint that she didn't want to be my friend any longer. Anyway, she is a hotshot and what am I? A sex worker."
My heart wrenched at her last sentence. "Can I remind you, you're no longer a sex worker, you're my secretary?"
"Unfortunately." She laughed and stood up from the bench. "I'll be right back."
"Where are you heading?"
"Grab your coffee."
"Let's go together." I stood up and we both headed to the nearest cafe.
"Can't they leave you alone?" Rika frowned at the paparazzi who began snapping our photos outside the cafe. "Oh my God!" Rika stumbled when a female photographer pushed her away to get closer to me. I quickly grabbed her when she fell to the ground.
"Scott!"
"Scott, sir!"
"Sir!"
"Mr. Martinez."
"Sir, please."
We rushed into the cafe and breathed heavily. "What the fuck is that?" Rika gritted her teeth, slapping her hand against her throbbing heart. "Are they fucking crazy? They are inhuman assholes!"
In the cafe, everyone paused eating, talking, and laughing, snapping their heads at us.
"Oh my God, Scott!" A woman at the corner table gasped in shock, standing up.
"That's why I wanted to bring you coffee." Rika groaned, exhaling a long sigh. We walked to the third table and sat down. I was used to this environment where people were watching me and sometimes started to take pictures but Rika didn't look comfortable with so much attention. "Why are they watching you like an alien?" she leaned forward and whispered with her gritted teeth. "Oh, and look at those women, they already make you their husband because of the way they are watching with hatred."
"Just ignore them." I glanced through the menu. "What would you like to order?"
"I don't think I'll be able to eat and drink in this atmosphere."
She rolled her eyes.
"Good morning, sir." A petite waitress with short red hair greeted me. Just me? I glanced at Rika. "What would you like to order, sir?"
"Two black coffees, please."
"Sure, sir?" She gave me a sultry smile and walked away.

"Am I invisible?" Rika asked before glaring at the waitress. "What would you like to order, sir?" She mimicked her and I broke into a smile, shaking my head.
In a few minutes, the waitress returned with our coffees and placed a piece of paper under the tray. Without even noticing it, I tossed it in the trash can. Rika was busy talking to her mother on the phone and I was enjoying my coffee. Suddenly, I noticed Camille and Conan on their way to the cafe.
"Why are they coming here?" Rika said while hanging up her phone.
I couldn't deny I felt jealous. Seeing her with another man made me realise just how much I had fallen in love with her. She was disgusted by my touch and my presence. She didn't want to breathe the same air as I was breathing. Yesterday she hid in the bathroom so that she would not have to sleep with me. I was not surprised by it, to be honest. I had broken her and I would try to make things right between us. Camille and Colette were the only hope in my life and I couldn't let them go.
They entered and paused when they noticed us. I sipped my coffee and Rika fiddled with her phone. I knew she was pretending like she didn't care about Conan's presence but I could tell she was shivering from inside through her fidgeting fingers. I didn't know what history they were sharing but I knew they had very strong feelings for each other. Either it was hatred or love.
Unluckily our next table was vacant so Camille and Conan sat there, ignoring us.
Camille looked uncomfortable but Conan seemed pissed. His expression revealed everything. The server took their order and they kept talking about the weather and Colette. I glanced at Camille who looked adorable in her floral dress. I forgot to thank Rika for this.
"You have a nice choice."
"You're welcome," she grinned. "It's Camille who makes this dress look beautiful," she whispered.
After finishing our coffee we got up to leave but Conan shoved his leg out of the table, making Rika fall on the ground flat on her face.
"Ouch!" He mocked her and broke into laughter. I advanced on him and was about to punch his face but Rika stopped me.
I looked at her, eyeing her bleeding lips. "I saw him doing it purposely."
"It was just an accident," she hissed and dragged me out of the cafe. I glared at Conan who was smirking at us and then looked at Camille who was watching her friend with concern. "Why the fuck did you stop me from breaking his nose?" I growled at Rika.
"This is my fight. I don't want to get involved in this."
"Oh, shut up!" I snorted and ripped my hand away from her hold and dashed into my car.
