Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Evadne stylishly held the steering wheel, tearing down the road with the nocturnal aria “The flames of revenge burn in my heart”
blasting from her speakers.
She wasn’t afraid of Thaddeus checking on her, she just couldn’t understand why a man who treated her like air for three years,
never asking about her, suddenly became curious only when their marriage was at its end.
Maybe it’s just how men are. If a woman cares about him, he’ll just be annoyed; but if she ignores him, he’ll come running.
Suddenly, Evadne glanced at the rear-view mirror, her brows slightly furrowed.
In the not too distant back. Thaddeus’ Lambo was stubbornly tailing her!
“You want to tail me? Dream on.”
Evadne smirked, slamming the pedal to the metal.
Her La Voiture Noire drifted left like a lightning bolt, vanished in the blink of an eye.
“Hurry, keep up!” Thaddeus, sitting in the pa**enger seat, urged nervously.
Gordon was freaking out, he had never driven this fast. His heart was about to jump out of his mouth!
Finally, they caught a glimpse of Evadne’s tail lights. Thaddeus’ face remained impa**ive, but he secretly breathed a sigh of
relief.
“Mr. Thaddeus, Mrs. Abernathy’s driving skills are insane! The song ‘See You Again’ really suits her.” Gordon couldn’t help but
exclaim.
“What ‘See You Again’? When did she become such a good driver?” Thaddeus frowned in confusion.
“Don’t you know? Mrs. Abernathy is a huge fan of racing movies, especially ‘The Fast and the Furious’. Every time I see her, that
movie is playing on the TV in her living room and she often listens to that song.”
Gordon was getting more and more excited, “Who would have thought Mrs. Abernathy had such a personality, I always thought
she was a delicate lady who needed to be taken care of.”
Even Thaddeus himself was fooled by this woman.
What’s more annoying is that his secretary knows more about his wife than he does!
“Oh no! Mrs. Abernathy is speeding up!”
“Keep up, or I’ll deduct your annual salary!” Thaddeus clenched his jaw, his handsome face turned pale.
Gordon was afraid of losing his salary, but he was more afraid of losing his life.
As a result, after two fast and furious drifts by Evadne, they completely lost sight of her tail lights.
“We... we lost her...” Gordon deflated.
Thaddeus punched the car window, his temple vein bulging.
Ilana, why are you hiding behind so many layers?
What’s your real identity?
At night, Cas sius and Arnold arrived at their sister’s private villa.
In the open kitchen, Cas sius was flipping pans and Arnold was chopping vegetables, while Evadne, with a lollipop in her mouth,
enjoyed the sight of her brothers cooking.
“Done! Four kills!”
Evadne looked at her record on the screen and clapped her hands in triumph.
“Sis, your skills are still top-notch.” Arnold smiled at her. His smile was the warmest among the four brothers.
“See, I’m like a skilled but cher, always completing tasks precisely.”
Evadne knelt on the chair, her arms on the edge of the table, the lollipop in her mouth bobbing up and down, looking adorable.
“Hey, you’re quite confident, let’s have a match tomorrow, I’ll show you what real skills are.”
“You lost quite badly last time, I’d say don’t bother challenging me.” Cas sius said, handing Evadne a piece of cut beef.
“Humph... last time I had to quit because of a sudden mission, otherwise we would have won!” Arnold was clearly discontented.
“I’m going to start cooking, Evadne, you’re allergic to smoke, go wait in the living room.” Cas sius said gently.
Evadne paused, a pang of sorrow welled up in her heart.
She hadn’t told her brothers that although she’s allergic to smoke, she had been a cook for the Abernathy family for three years,
being around cooking smoke for so long, her hands even covered in calluses, she body had built up some resistance against
smoke.

If she told them, her brothers might harbor resentment towards the Abernathy family.
Evadne is the jewel of the Ashbourne family, she shouldn’t have been cooking, how could the Abernathy family treat her like a
kitchen maid?
Luckily, she had decided to leave, she wouldn’t let herself suffer for a man she could never have.
Suddenly, Cas sius’ phone rang.
He quickly wiped his hands and took out his phone from his apron pocket, then looked at Evadne with a complicated expression.
“Evadne, it’s your ex-husband again.”
“Oh my G od! He’s still not leaving you alone?”
Evadne was so angry that her face turned red, and the lollipop in her mouth fell onto the table.
“What? That jerk Thaddeus is still calling you?” Arnold sat next to Evadne, casually picked up the lollipop from the table and put
it in his mouth, “Last time you two were watching fireworks at Evergreen Meadows, did Thaddeus mistake you for Evadne’s
boyfriend?”
“Yes.”
Amold exclaimed, “Oh my G od! His eyesight is really...”
“What? Am I not good enough to be Evadne’s boyfriend?” Cas sius smiled amiably.
“Unfaithful Thaddeus is really blind, you look more like a father, not a boyfriend.”
Just as the two brothers started to tease her, she was really getting angry.
“Should I answer the call?” Cas sius asked.
“Don’t!”
“Answer it!” Evadne said.
Cas sius listened to his sister and pressed the speakerphone button.
“Where’s my wife?” Thaddeus’ voice was more natural than in the morning, even with a hint of possessiveness.
“I...”
Arnold was about to explode, but was suppressed by Evadne.
“Mr. Frederic, Ilana isn’t your wife anymore, you guys are divorced, remember?” Cas sius reminded him calmly, even carefully
changing his address to avoid any slip-ups.
“She knows whether we are still husband and wife.” Thaddeus answered coldly, his voice icy.
‘Thaddeus, why are you doing this to me! And trailing my car, what are you trying to say?” Evadne picked up the phone, irritated,
having turned off the speaker.
“I need to talk to you about something, alone.”
Evadne stepped into a room, shut the door, took a deep breath and picked up the phone again.
“Spit it out, I’m busy.”
“Why did you change your number?” Thaddeus’ tone was frosty.
“I wanted a fresh start, to cut ties with the past.”
“What if my grandpa wants to find you? I can’t contact you. Give me your new number so I can keep in touch.” Thaddeus’ tone
was full of self-a**uredness.
“If you want to find me, it’s easy. Call President Ashbourne, he’ll know where I am.” Evadne smiled slightly.
“Ilana, is this your way of getting back at me?”
Thaddeus’ tone was icy, “You’ve barely left me and you’re already eager to move in with Ca ssius? What do you plan to call
yourself in front of him?”
“Thaddeus!” Evadne was also angry, clenching her fists.
“You think this kind of revenge will affect me? You’re so naive, do you think I care who you’re with?”
Thaddeus was extremely angry, scoffing, “I just don’t want to disappoint my grandpa. I don’t want him to find out that the person
he treasures is a horrible woman! Even if you want to live freely, please mind your actions before my grandpa’s 80th birthday.
Don’t let rumors reach his ears.”
Evadne was so angry she couldn’t speak and hung up the phone.
In the dark, she leaned against the wall, breathing heavily but unable to calm her pain from Thaddeus’ insults.
Why was her heart still hurting so much? Hadn’t she decided that he was already nonexistent to her?
Evadne rubbed her eyes, the deep disappointment making them teary.
“Thaddeus...how could you do this to me...so our thirteen years of feelings were all a lie...”
