Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Evadne didn’t bat an eyelid.
She was well aware of Elspeth’s two-faced nature. All the information sent a clear message to Suri: not only was she dumped by Thaddeus, but she was also a poor girl scrambling for a rich man to survive.
A wicked smirk crept up on Acacia and her mom.
The Ashbourne and Abernathy families were never on good terms. Cas sius, as the eldest son of Emeric, was of high standing. He could have any woman he wanted with the snap of a finger. Why on earth would he want a divorcee of Thaddeus?
What a joke!
Thaddeus frowned, annoyance flashing in his eyes. “Elspeth, this is my business, not yours.”
“Thaddeus, it might be your business, but it also affects the image of both the Abernathy and Ashbourne families. I’m just trying to prevent the revelation of Ms. Ilana being your ex-wife from freaking people out. I have everyone’s best interest at heart!” Elspeth continued her bulls hitting.
“Didn’t Ms. Ilana divorce Mr. Thaddeus already? Doesn’t that mean they have nothing to do with each other anymore? How could Elspeth still think Ms. Ilana would embarra** the Abernathy family?”
Suri scoffed, “Is Ms. Ilana not allowed to fall for another man after her divorcè with Mr. Thaddeus? Ms. Ilana marrying Cas sius is nothing to be ashamed of. We, Ashbournes, won’t look down on her just because she’s been divorced. It’s an era of equality, Elspeth. There’s no need to treat Ms. Ilana this way.”
Jareth was almost clapping after hearing Suri’s words. They were so satisfying!
Acacia, her mom, and even Glynnis were taken aback. They stood there, too embarra**ed to utter a word.
Was Suri protecting Ilana?
“Suri, you’re also a rich man’s daughter, so you must understand what I’m saying!”
Elspeth became flustered when Suri ignored her. “Ms. Ilana just left our Thaddeus and is now with Cas sius. If others find out, they’d think she had an affair with Cas sius while still married. It’s disgraceful. As the legal wife of Chairman Emeric, you should care about the Ashbourne family’s reputation!”
“Enough!”
Suri frowned, her aura making Elspeth uneasy. “This is the kids’ business. I might be an elder, but I’m not Cas sius’s mom. I don’t have the right to meddle. And Elspeth, you’re not Mr. Thaddeus’s biological mom. Don’t you think you’re not qualified to play the elder role in front of Thaddeus?”
Elspeth was speechless.
“And Chairman Emeric and I haven’t signed a marriage contract so he’s just my man. I don’t want to hear ‘legal wife of Chairman Emeric’ from you ever again!”
Suri’s cold tone left Elspeth pale and her mind blank.
Evadne bit her lip, and a wave of sourness rushed up her nose.
Chairman Emeric’s legal wife-there’s only one, and that’s her mom.
Thaddeus stayed silent, but he kept an eye on Ilana.
He never liked Ilana. He was on
maintaining a friendly facade with her. This woman had been a source of trouble, always poking where it hurt.
But when Elspeth mocked her with those sharp words, he felt like his own dignity was tainted.
“Ms. Ilana, do you need to see Cas sius? I can take you to him.” Suri’s friendly gaze was back on Evadne.
“Thank you, Suri. Then I’ll trouble you.” Evadne smiled like a well-mannered lady.
“Such a polite and beautiful child.”
Suri gently took Evadne’s hand, speaking out loud intentionally. “Cas sius has good taste in choosing you as his girlfriend.”
“Hold on.”
Thaddeus’s heart filled with rage upon hearing these words. He sternly said, “Ms. Ilana, don’t you owe us an apology?”. Jareth let out a sigh. He wished he could stuff his sock in Thaddeus’s mouth.
Evadne’s heart ached. She shot him a cold look.
Thaddeus felt like her disappointing gaze went right through his soul.
“It wasn’t her! It wasn’t her!”
A clear and sweet voice intervened, making those with malicious intent uneasy!
Evadne’s heart lightened as she turned towards the voice.
“Marilla!”
A girl in a simple white dress with a “cauliflower” hairdo, delicate features, and fair skin was running towards them.
This ridiculous hairstyle was Glynnis’s “masterpiece”.
In the Abernathy family, Marilla was always Glynnis’s rival.
Glynnis was jealous of her sister’s beauty and bullied Marilla every day. Whenever they had public appearances, she’d make sure Marilla would make a fool of herself, fearing her sister would steal her thunder.
Marilla was born with autism, which made her even more introverted and antisocial so she was always silent when meeting strangers.
However, during her three years in the Abernathy family, the only person who had shown warmth to Evadne apart from Alva was this ignored little sister.
After leaving the Abernathy family, Marilla had been thinking about her all the time.
Evadne was overjoyed to unexpectedly meet her here today.
“Marilla, what are you talking about?”
12:38
Glynnis gave her sister a hard glare. “Acacia was the only one in the bathroom other than her; if not her, then who else?”
“It wasn’t her! It wasn’t her!” Marilla was frantic and scared; she couldn’t explain clearly.
“Marilla, this isn’t your business; go play by yourself!” Elspeth also looked at her with a cold face.
Marilla clenched her little fists and walked to Thaddeus. She looked up at him with a tense face.
“Bro, she didn’t do it!”
“Marilla, why would you say that?” Thaddeus’s tone softened when he faced Marilla.
“I saw it! I was also in the bathroom! I saw it!”
Everyone was shocked; Acacia’s face turned pale!
Evadne was stunned. She had no idea that Marilla was also present during her confrontation with Acacia.
“I saw Ms. Acacia came to argue with you. You wanted to leave, but Ms. Acacia wouldn’t let you. She pulled your diamond bracelet off. Then she broke your diamond bracelet and ran out screaming, but you didn’t touch Ms. Acacia! I saw it all clearly!” Marilla explained with her hands gesturing in the air that she was so anxious that tears were about to fall.
“Marilla.” Evadne was deeply touched seeing her like this.
She knew Marilla was timid, but to prove her innocence, she forced herself to speak the truth.
Thaddeus’s eyes widened; his gaze focused on Acacia’s pale face, as if about to explode.
He slowly released the hand that had been tightly gripping hers.
Acacia was like a drowning person who had lost her lifebuoy. She could no longer care about the injury to her hand. She tightly hugged Thaddeus’s waist and said, “No, Thaddeus! She provoked me first! I really didn’t mess with her! Marilla is not very smart; don’t listen to her!”
“Not very smart? I think Marilla is just not very pretty, but when she tells the story, she makes it very clear.” Jareth scoffed. Out of respect for Thaddeus, he didn’t directly accuse Acacia.
He had never liked Acacia, but Thaddeus insisted on treating this bad woman as his love and always believed in her.
“She didn’t hurt you, right?” Thaddeus took a deep breath and then asked seriously.
In the face of the witness, Acacia was sweating profusely and dared not lie anymore.
“So, you were slandering her?”
After asking this question, Thaddeus felt it hard to breathe.
“No, not at all.”
Acacia was so frightened that she was shaking all over. Suddenly, her vision blacked out, and due to excessive tension and blood loss, she fainted.
A farce ended with Acacia being taken away in an ambulance.
When Jason arrived, Evadne was accompanying Suri to the underground parking lot.
“Ms. Evadne! I’m sorry I’m late! I wasn’t by your side when such a big thing happened!”
Seeing the blood on the white handkerchief in Evadne’s hand, Jason felt very uneasy. “How did you get hurt? Who did it? I’ll make them pay!”
‘It’s fine, Jason. I know you were dealing with company matters. It’s all minor here.”
Evadne looked deeply at Suri and said, “Suri has sorted it out for me.”
“I didn’t really solve anything for you. I, as an elder, only found out today how they treated you.”
Suri felt a pain in her heart thinking of how Evadne was ganged up on by the Abernathy family: “Evadne, why didn’t you reveal your identity? Why did you endure their slander? You should say you are the daughter of the Ashbourne family; let them know the price of bullying you!”
Evadne lightly shook her head and said, “Suri, I’ve left the Abernathy family; I don’t want them to know anything about me. Those people, no matter how terrible or hateful, will be forever imprinted in Ilana’s life. And in my life as Evadne, they will never appear again, including Thaddeus.”
Jason was surprised. He only realized that Suri also knew about Ms. Evadne’s marriage.
“Yeah, your thinking is correct; let the past blow away with the wind.”
Suri bit her lip lightly and couldn’t help but smile. “Fortunately, I came today. Otherwise, today’s matter wouldn’t have been so easily resolved.”
“Aviana is a pa**ionate person and her life is full of enthusiasm.”
They chatted and laughed for a while, and suddenly Suri hugged Evadne, her voice choking.
“Evadne, I really feel it’s unfair for you.”
“No, I don’t feel it’s unfair.”
Evadne’s eyes turned red. She smiled and comforted her, saying, “As long as you are here, I don’t feel it’s unfair at all.”
