Chapter 364
Chapter 364
Evadne was finally taken home by Avery, thanks to Jeff’s arrangement.
Thaddeus was pushing Hamilton’s wheelchair towards the parking lot, with Edith trailing behind him like a pesky little shadow.
“When are you going to stop following me?” Thaddeus suddenly halted, asking without looking back
Caught off guard, Edith narrowly avoided crashing into him, stumbling awkwardly.
” want to help you take Grandpa Hamilton home, Thad.” she said with a pitiful expression, “He just got discharged from the hospital. I’m sure he’ll need
help”
“Help? What can you do?” Thaddeus retorted without hesitation
Tve watched you grow up. I’ve seen how Mrs. Fairhaven and your brother have protected you. You’ve never even gotten your hands dirty. What could you possibly do? Thaddeus scoffed coldly, not giving her any grace.
“Thad”
“You know who Grandpa Hamilton needs. “He interrupted, his eyes softening as he thought of Evadne, “Go back and do your duty on Mr. Fairhaven.”
With that, he wheeled Hamilton away, leaving Edith behind, flustered and disheveled
On the way home, their driver took the wheel. Mr. Murray sat shotgun, and Thaddeus and Hamilton were in the back
The car was warm, but Hamilton’s frosty expression made it feel like they were in an icebox.
Thaddeus knew he was angry.
But the fact was, he and Evadne were divorced. Their irreconcilable differences were a fact too.
Thaddeus had pursued her relentlessly, even risking his life, but it hadn’t been enough to earn her trust.
He wasn’t afraid of giving her love unilaterally, but what scared him most was that she had never trusted him.
Finally arriving at Havenbrook, Thaddeus got out of the car to assist Mr. Murray with the wheelchair, intending to help Hamilton into it
I’m not sitting in that damn thing. I’m not disabled. Why should I use a wheelchair? Hamilton grumbled, shoving Thaddeus aside. He instructed Mr. Murray, “Mr. Murray, bring me my cane.”
In no time, Mr Murray had fetched the cane.
Hamilton took the cane, his white lips tightly pressed. Without a word, Hamilton swung the cane at Thaddeus‘ back.
With a thud. Thaddeus felt an intense pain on his back, his brows furrowed.
“Damn kid! What are you good for? Why don’t you just drop dead!” Hamilton roared, taking another swing at him. “Ilana is a good girl! You were finally making progress with her. Why did you say those words? Why did you push her away? Are you brain–dead?”
Thaddeus took the blows silently. His handsome face looked utterly dejected under the moonlight.
“You’re blind if you can’t see how much that Chambers boy cares for Ilana. Can’t you see how close they’ve gotten? Can’t you see that Jeff wants llana to be his daughter–in–law?”
Hamilton kept snarling. “You’ve been getting close with that Fairhaven girl. Even if you’re innocent, you should’ve done everything in your power to explain yourself to lana and show her your sincerity! You must hold on to her especially at this critical moment and never let her go no matter what the Fairhaven family try to do behind our back!“
Was he willing to do that?
Could he stand to see her with Avery and not do anything?
“Grandpa, I said those things. I did those things. You can hit me.” Thaddeus clenched his fists, his eyes welling up, “When you’re done, please rest. And please, let go of llana and me”
“Let go? You want me to let go? So you can marry that Fairhaven girl?” Hamilton was livid. He almost fell if Mr. Murray didn’t support him.
Do I have to get married? I’ve been married once. That’s enough I don’t care about getting married, and I don’t like kids either.”
Somehow. Thaddeus felt a sharp pain in his heart at his own words
He liked kids it was just if he couldn’t have kids with the woman he loved, the children meant nothing to him
He wouldn’t guarantee that he could give 100%, love and care for the children. That wasn’t fair to them.
“Why should I let go of such a wonderful girt? Unless I’m dead, she’ll always be part of this family, always my future granddaughter in law?”
yes ted. Hamilton knocked on the ground with his cane. “Maybe to you, ilana is just a woman you love, but to me, she’s not just a kid who is filial, but also the one who saved my life! Two years ago on the Christmas eve, if it werent for llana, if she hadn’t gotten me to the hospital in time. I wouldn’t be standing here right now?
Thaddeus’s eyes dripping with gloom 1 know Grandpa Hamilton. You were hurt badly in the car accident. If it wasn’t for Evadne”
You only khen
who sent me to the hospital But did you know how terribly she was injured?”
Hamiltons voice cracked eyes streaking with tears. “At that time I was in a coma, and you were all at abroad, unable to come back in time. There were only fana, and Mr. Murray with mal | didn’t realize how badly the hurt She was covered in blood, but she made sure Mr. Murray didn’t tell me or you because she didn’t want us to worry”
Thaddeus eyes contracted in astoreshment
The words made him felt like there was a knife twisting in his chest, and with one single touch, it’d be in shreds.
Mr. Murray, upon hearing these words, cast his gaze downward, sorrow etching itself into his features as he recalled past events.
The secret he harbored weighed heavy on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
But he was a professional secretary, tight–lipped and discreet. Whether it was Mr. Abernathy or Ms. Ashbourne who had entrusted him with a matter, he would carry that secret to the grave,
“Grandpa Hamilton, is it really like that?” Thaddeus felt numb, as if he’d been struck by lightning.
“Why would I bother making up such a story now?”
Hamilton’s emotional turmoil, coupled with his physical weakness, finally overcame him, and he collapsed into his wheelchair, The sacrifices llana made for you, the things she did for you, they’re far more than you could ever imagine. But back then, you were completely taken by the charm of that Stirling girl and didn’t see llana’s goodness. You owe Ilana more than you could repay in a lifetime. Even if she spends a lifetime being moody and disliking you, you deserve it. You damn well deserve to suffer!”
With that, he wheeled himself away, not looking back.
“Mr. Abernathy! Let me help you back to your room.” Mr. Murray uttered anxiously
“No need! I’m not in the mood to be bothered by anyone right now!”
The air seemed to freeze, chilling the blood in their veins and arresting Thaddeus’s breath.
“Mr. Murray, as you can see, Grandpa Hamilton doesn’t want to see me.”
Thaddeus swallowed hard, his voice low and rough, “Tonight, I’ll stay in a hotel near Havenbrook. If anything happens, let me know immediately. I’ll be there as soon as I can. I won’t stay here and upset him anymore. I’ll take my leave.”
“Mr. Abernathy! Wait!” Mr. Murray called out, disquietude in his eyes.
“Is there anything else, Mr. Murray?”
“Are you and Ms. Ashbourne really impossible to be together again?”
Thaddeus felt a pang in his heart, 1 don’t know.”
“There are things about Ms. Ashbourne that you don’t know yet.” Mr. Murray clenched his fists, struggling to contain himself
Thaddeus turned slowly, his gaze filled with disbelief, “What things?”
“Ms. Ashbourne asked me to keep it a secret. I promised her. I can’t tell anyone”
Mr. Murray looked torn, “But I hope that one day, Ms. Ashbourne can tell you herself.”
His words sparked the man’s curiosity
Evadne had hidden her identity as the heiress of the Ashbourne family, married him, and loved him for thirteen years. These secrets had been enough to
shake his soul!
What other secrets was she hiding from him?
Would they be even more unbelievable?
Two days after the amputation, Byron finally woke up.
That day, Evadne arrived at the hospital early. She didn’t just perform the surgery and leave, after all, Mr. Chambers had asked for her help, and she felt obligated to follow up on Byron’s treatment.
In the ward, Evadne and two attending doctors were present. She carefully examined Byron’s reattached left leg, while his right leg had been replaced
with a prosthetic
“My leg
Byron’s face was pale as he sobbed, but he couldn’t cry anymore, Im doomed. My life is over!”
“Byron, you need to stay calm.”
Evadne, wearing a mask that revealed only her clear and beautiful eyes, looked at him, “You were able to save one of your legs. You’re much luckier than many people in this world.”
“Somebody tried to kill me. Avery tried to kill me!” Byron suddenly grabbed Evadne’s hand, his face grotesque with fear.
Evadne was taken aback and glanced at the other two doctors.
Fortunately, they were standing some distance away and, with Byron’s slurred speech, they did not hear what he said
Evadne asked the doctors to leave, closed the door, and then asked Byron seriously, “Byron, you said while under anesthesia during your last surgery that Avery wanted to kill you. Do you have any proof?”
Byron’s face was asher, his body shaking violently
It seemed that recalling the night of the car accident filled him with terror, as if he was haunted by a fierce ghost!
“After my car was flipped, the driver died immediately, but my secretary didn’t die. I was trapped under the car and couldn’t move, but I remember clearly that my leg wasnt broken I could still move it?”
Evadne’s eyebrows furrowed “And then?”
“And then, I saw a black car slowly coming over A man got out wearing a baseball cap and a black mask. I couldn’t mistake the man’s figure and eyes, it was Avery!”

Byron’s eyes were wide open, filled with terror, He came over He had a metal rod in his hand, and without a word, he killed my secretary right in front of
Evadne’s heart lurched
“Then he lifted the rod high and swung it at my leg! I screamed in pain and then I don’t remember anything else”
