Chapter 27
Chapter 27
“Holy cow! Thaddeus, have you lost your mind?!” Jareth’s pupils dilated in disbelief.
Evadne turned pale, her slender arms hanging limply by her sides, her smooth forehead glistening with cold sweat.
Jareth and Thaddeus treated her so differently, one gentle and caring, the other brutish and ruthless.
Thaddeus grabbed Evadne’s fingers and gave them a squeeze, his lips parting in shock as he stepped back.
“Ms. Ilana, your arm is dislocated. I’m taking you to the hospital right away.” Jareth was frantic, wanting to help Evadne, but she coldly dodged him. “No need, I can handle it myself.”
“How can you handle it? Your arm is dislocated.”
“That’s none of your business.”
Evadne was furious to the extreme, her bright eyes glaring wide, as if her whole body was filled with pri ckles, untouchable.
Jareth stood still, not daring to make any moves.
Thaddeus stared at his ex-wife, her entire body trembling with anger, and he suddenly realized that he hardly knew her at all.
They had been married for three years. She used to be gentle and always smiling, even with a hint of appeasement. At that time, he was filled with discontent towards such a marriage. The more she smiled at him, the angrier he became, and eventually, he even grew disgusted by her.
Now they had split, and the ever-smiling her had disappeared from his life. But her current rage towards him made her seem so real and alive.
”
“Thaddeus, stop being so self-righteous.” Evadne took a deep breath, her eyes reddening, “My decision to work wasn’t intended to hurt your pride. I only wanted to find my own way of surviving after you abandoned me, to discover a new way of life. I don’t understand why you can end our three-year marriage without hesitation, but when I want to start a new life, you hinder me at every turn. Can’t you let go of me? No, you’re not that kind, you just can’t stand to see me doing well.”
Thaddeus’s eyes slightly narrowed, his throat felt like it was blocked by a rock, rendering him speechless.
Seeing his silence, Evadne’s heart trembled, she forced back the pain in her heart and mocked, “Do you want to see me miserable every day, unable to live because of the heartache? No way, Thaddeus. These three years, I’ve been living in pain every day. Leaving you is not a continuation of the tragedy, but a complete liberation. Don’t come looking for me before grandpa’s birthday, I don’t want to see you.” Evadne turned around, the pain in her heart surpa**ing the pain in her arm, so much so that she had become numb. In fact, this small injury was nothing to her, she could easily reset her arm in front of them. But she wanted to see herself in this sorry state, she wanted all her nerves to feel the pain, only then would she feel relieved.
Suddenly, Evadne felt a warmth on her lower back, and then the world spun. Thaddeus came up behind her and picked her up without hesitation.
“Put me down!” Evadne’s face turned red, and she struggled in his arms.
The more she tried to struggle, the tighter Thaddeus held her, his broad chest trapping her like a cage, leaving no room for her to resist. Evadne’s body was pressed against his chest, feeling his rapid heartbeat, even smelling the scent she liked on his collar.
She suddenly felt like crying. Many nights, she would spray his cologne on her bed to accompany her to sleep. The sweet memories of the past now only brought resentment.
“I’m taking you to the hospital. Your shoulder is dislocated. We can’t delay.” Thaddeus’s face was expressionless, but his gazes were deeper. “Let go of me, Thaddeus. You didn’t care about me when we were married, you have no right to touch me after divorce.” Evadne cried out angrily, her voice h oa rse.
But Thaddeus seemed not to hear, his face was tense as he walked forward determinedly.
Jareth clicked his tongue and hurried to catch up. “What’s going on? You two are already divorced and still can’t clear up the mess. Let me help you, Ms. Ilana.”
“Beat it.”
“Beat it.”
The two of them shouted in unison, one with red eyes, the other with a red face.
Jareth was surprised, “Wow, you two really look like a couple.”
Hospital.
Evadne was taken into the clinic, Thaddeus and Jareth waited in the corridor.
“Thaddeus, you were really rough with her. Her tiny arm couldn’t handle your strength, what if you broke it?” Jareth shook his head in
dissatisfaction.
“How did you know she was working there?” Thaddeus’s eyes were cold as he glared at him, anger burning in his gaze.
“I was there for a meal and happened to see her. When I got there, she was doing heavy lifting at the back door, working hard. You couldn’t tell she used to be the wife of a CEO.” Jareth said with a smile, his voice full of admiration, “She’s humble and adaptable; she’s the most special woman I’ve ever met.”
Thaddeus’s hand clenched tightly, his voice was a little h oa rse. “Then you really have not met a lot people.”
“That’s better than someone who has eyes but can’t recognize gold.” Jareth responded sarcastically, and they continued to hurt each other. Thaddeus’s eyes reddened, his heart felt like it was being squeezed.
“Truth be told, I always thought you two would get back together.” Jareth commented.
“Impossible.” Thaddeus’s voice was h oa rse, he coldly replied.
“You clearly still care about her, otherwise why would you rush over here? Look at how anxious you were, your eyes were shining when you saw her, and you say you don’t care?”
Jareth leaned against the wall, crossed his arms and shook his head, “Thaddeus, what you’re doing is really unfair. You dumped your old love for a new one, and now you’re upset to see her in love again. You don’t want to be like Emeric and have multiple women, do you?” “She promised grandpa that we can only officially divorce after grandpa’s eightieth birthday, she should be able to do it.”
“She only agreed to delay it to consider grandpa’s feelings. But you’re holding on to it like you’ve found some sort of leverage, it’s really a bit too much.”
“This is my private business. You don’t need to interfere.” Thaddeus felt a sense of oppression.
“I don’t really wanna butt in, but I kinda fancy Ms. Ilana, and I’d like to see where things could go with her, so I wanted to talk to you about it, you know, see if you could step back a bit?” Jareth mimicked Evadne’s speech pattern, his normally flirty eyes turning serious.
“Just drop it, you’re not her type,” Thaddeus’s face darkened.
“Whether I’m her type or not, that’s up to her to decide.”
“Jareth.”
Jareth ignored Thaddeus’s growing anger, tilting his head and raising an eyebrow. “But listen, if you change your mind before marrying Acacia, and decide you want to get back together with her, I’ll step off and stop chasing her. After all, we’ve been friends for years, and I respect you as a true friend. But if you keep hovering around Ms. Ilana even after your get married to Acacia, I might have to fight you for her.”
Thaddeus’s lips tightened, his stern face clouded over.
“Thaddeus.” A roar echoed through the quiet hallway.
As Thaddeus turned his head, a strong punch landed squarely on his cheek.
