His Alpha's Guardian

Chapter 16

**Kataleya's POV**

**Six Weeks Later**

When Tate and Carlos kept telling me that this training was going to be different than anything I have ever witnessed or been a part of, I mistakenly thought that he was joking. At the very least, I thought that he had been exaggerating.

Nope, definitely was not exaggerating. I have watched as six people were cut from the program because some of the Elders did not think that they would be cut out for the work of a Guardian. During the last six weeks I have been tested more than I thought possible. Nearly every day, I feel that I am being watched, and I am not talking about by the instructors. I sometimes feel that I can sense Justin or smell his mouthwatering scent, but then I have to reality check myself and remind myself that he died. I watched him die and I felt our bond snap...

I have made a few friends during this time. Jack, who is a fallen angel looking for redemption. Theia, who is another werewolf. She lost her mate in a fire. Thalia, who is a witch. Her coven had died in an attack, leaving her the sole survivor.

I have noticed a trend with everyone here. They have had events in their past that have left them feeling “broken.”

I quickly rose through the ranks with the trainees and have earned the title of undefeated. So far, no one has been able to take me down during training. There were a couple of times that Edward would come and observe. I have caught him telling Carlos, several times, that he warned him that I was going to be a force to be reckoned with.

One thing I learned is, the better you performed in the classes and training, the better your assignment will be.

Today was officially graduation. Today, the new Guardians will find out their placements and which Elder that they have to report too.

I am nervous, but excited to begin this new journey. I am hoping that, wherever Justin is, that he is proud of me and what I am trying to do.

I wait in line with all the other nervous graduates for our names to be called. I watched as Theia, Jack, and Thalia received their placements. Finally, my name is called.

“Kataleya Frost, report.”

I walked in front of Tate and turned to face him. “You are about to begin your new journey as a Guardian. You have quickly risen through the ranks of your fellow trainees and you were even able to take down some of our best instructors. For this, we will have you start with a high-ranking charge. Your first contract will be for one year and your charge will be Alpha Ezekiel and Luna Katherine. They have recently mated. Luna Katherine was saved from a pretty rough situation. She is a rare red wolf, which makes her highly sought after. The pack needs some help improving their training regime and help with their patrols, while also figuring out who is after their Luna. Do you accept your assignment, Kataleya Frost?”

“I accept, High Elder Tate.” My voice rang out through the stadium.

“Remember you will be given a bond to your charges that will be similar to that of a mate bond. You will feel everything that your charge feels. This will go both ways. They will also be able to feel everything that you feel. There is good news, though. They cannot block you; however, you can block them. Many of our Guardians block their charges from their emotions; however, you can do whatever works best for you and your charges. You will report to Elder Carlos, twice a week. The report is better if it is done in person, but you do have the options of typing up and sending in a report or calling Elder Carlos to give him your reports. Remember to be diligent. Luna Katherine and Alpha Ezekiel will be your top priority. I wish you the best of luck.”

“Yes, sir.”

I moved off the stage and waited for the rest of the graduates to receive their assignments.

At the end of the ceremony, Theia and Thalia ran up to me at the same time. “You received the highest clearance!” They both screeched at the same time.

"Will you two let her breathe?” Jack asked, laughing at their reactions. Jack had told me that it was no surprise that I was given high clearance. I was ranked at the top of the class.

They both took a step back and mumbled their apologies. I shot Jack a glare. “They were fine, Jack. They were just excited for me. Thank you, girls, for the support. You both got some pretty good charges too.”

They both giggled. I felt someone standing behind me and I slowly turned to look and I noticed Carlos standing behind me.

My three friends immediately walked away as I turned to face him.

“Congratulations, Kataleya. You have made us very proud. Tate and I were rooting for you the entire time. Now, for your assignment. You are expected to be there within the next hour. Tonight, you will get to spend it getting to know your charge and then tomorrow the real fun begins. I have already talked with Alpha Ezekiel and he wants your assistance with running training and asked that you start with that tomorrow. Apparently, one of the areas that his Gamma struggles in is leading training. He “runs out of creative ideas” and they feel that it has negatively impacted their pack. So, you will take a company car there today. We wish you the best of luck.”

As I started to walk away and grab my stuff to leave, Carlos called out, “Oh, and by the way, Kataleya, you may experience some push back from the pack! The pack itself was not progressive under Ezekiel's father, so we are hoping you can help him with that! If you introduce yourself as an Alpha and a Guardian, then some of the warriors might laugh.”

I frowned. Of course, just when I thought I was finally finished with misogynistic assholes. Why couldn't anything ever be easy for me?

After enduring the long six-hour drive, I have finally arrived at the Midnight Eclipse pack. Once I reached the borders of the pack, I was immediately stopped by two of their warriors.

I rolled down my window and greeted them. Instead of greeting me, they jumped right to business. “Name and state your business.”

"Alpha Kataleya Frost. I am the new Guardian for your Alpha and Luna.”

He looked at me and started laughing. “You,” he sputters, “An Alpha and a Guardian?? Who are you going to guard? You are such a tiny little thing.”

I growled and I felt a small presence coming alive inside my mind. I guess Skye is still with me. This is the first sign of life I have had from her since Justin died.

I knew to expect this from them after the warning Carlos had given me, but that does not mean that it pisses me off any less. I am irritable and pissed by this point. I have been driving for the past six hours and I did not stop once. Then to get here and get questioned by pansy-ass warriors.

Guess I had better put them in their place. I hope their Alpha doesn't mind.

"Would you like to say that again, except a little closer warrior?” I growled at him.

I opened my car door and stepped out. The warrior that was disrespectful to me stepped closer after looking at the other warrior.

“I said who the hell are you supposed to guard? You are fucking too tiny. There is no way that you are a Guardian and an Alpha. There is no way that our Alpha would accept a female Guardian, even if what you say is true.”

Oh well. Guess I had better put him in his place. I didn't think that he was going to be stupid enough to actually say it to me twice.

I lunged at him at hit him in his Adam's apple. He gagged slightly before him and the other warrior both lunged at me at the same time. I jumped to the side, causing both of them to collide with each other. Once they were back up, the one that had talked to me lunged back at me, his fist aiming for my face. I dodged out of the way and grabbed his fist as it flew past me. I took his fist and twisted it around his back and pushed it up, causing him to drop to his knees. The other warrior aimed his foot at my face and I took my other hand and caught his foot, using it to throw him to the ground. I crouched on the ground, waiting for another attack to come.

Just as I got into the groove and was about to make these idiots regret their choices, a voice stopped me. “What is going on here?”

I turned to look at the voice, still with the warriors hand twisted around his back. I could feel the aura radiating off this man. This man must be my charge, Alpha Ezekiel.

I slowly stood back up, pushing the warrior to the ground as I stood.

“You must be Alpha Ezekiel,” I stated. It was not a question. There is no other person that this could be.

"Yes, that would be me. Who are you and why are you attacking my warriors?” I could tell that he was pushing his aura out, trying to intimidate me. Little does he know that it will not work. I don't intimidate easily.

“My name is Alpha Kataleya Frost and I am your new Guardian. You see, I introduced myself to these dumbasses and they thought it was wise to insult me. I was just giving them a taste of their own medicine. Since, you know, there is no way that I could be an Alpha, let alone your Guardian. You know, your warriors are dead set that there is no way in hell that you would ever accept a female as your Guardian or your mate's Guardian, but you see I just took down two of your warriors at once. Either your warriors are weak, or they underestimated me. I would like to bank on the fact that your warriors are not weak, just incredibly stupid.”

The Alpha looked me up and down before he looked at his two warriors that were still lying on the floor. “Kyle! Matthew! Is what this Alpha said true? Did you really question her abilities? You can tell that she is an Alpha, or at least that Alpha blood runs through her veins! And you can clearly see the mark of a Guardian on her forearm.”

At his words, I allowed my Alpha aura to push out and I watched as the two idiots on the ground cringed at the sheer power exhuming from me.

“We didn't know, Alpha.” The one that I am assuming was Kyle spoke.

“Now you do,” he snapped. He looked at me with regret written clear on his face. “I am sorry for the behavior of my warriors, Alpha. I promise you that is not how they were taught. Please grab your car and follow me. I will take you to the pack house and introduce you to my Luna.”

I hopped back in my car and followed the Alpha to his pack house. I guess, on the bright side, he did not question my role and position. I guess he is not as stupid as his fucking warriors.

I parked my car at the front of his pack house and got out. He met me at the top of the steps.

“Let me show you around while I look for my Luna.” I nodded my head and proceeded to follow him. “This is our pack house. The first floor consists of the game room, the kitchen, dining hall, and the main lounge area. The first floor is, also, where pack guests reside.” He showed me each room as we passed and then showed me to the second floor, before immediately showing me the third and fourth floors. “The second floor is where our unmated warriors, and even some of our mated warriors, reside. The third floor is the main offices. This is where you will find my office, my Luna's office, and the offices of the rest of the rank members, including our lead warrior. The fourth floor is the Gamma's floor, while the fifth floor is the Beta's floor, and the last floor, which is our destination, is going to be the Alpha’s floor. On the Alpha’s floor is where you will find my private office and my Luna's private office. If you cannot find Luna Katherine, she is most likely hiding up here. She is still new to pack life and sometimes she gets overwhelmed by all the pack members.”

We finished walking the flight of stairs and he opened the door that led to a lounge-looking room. The room had beautiful floral decorations and smelled of caramel and pumpkins. Sitting in one of the love seats was a gorgeous, tall woman. She turned to look at us the moment that we walked in and I was stunned by her eyes. She had the most vibrant blue eyes that I have ever seen. She had long, straight, flaming red hair.

Alpha Ezekiel walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her to her feet.

“My beautiful Luna, this is our new Guardian. Alpha Kataleya Frost. Elder Carlos assured me that she was top of her class and she is one of the best Alpha’s from the west,” he told her.

I held my hand out to her, and she timidly took it. “It is nice to meet you, Luna Katherine. You do not need to refer to me by my title if you do not wish to. Kataleya or just Kat is fine.”

“Thank you, Alpha Kataleya. For right now, I think that I will keep your title. It makes me more comfortable,” she whispered.

"Of course, if that is what you wish, Luna.”

Alpha Ezekiel gestured to the seats and told me that I could go ahead and take a seat. “Now that we have met each other, I am sure Elder Carlos did not tell you everything that you needed to know in order to succeed in your role here. Let me go ahead and give you the background before you hear it from someone else.”
