Hero Dyes - Blue

Chapter We Meet Again

Bridget: That dream always stirred me awake. I slowly moved and stretched as my body felt heavy. My arms and legs brushed against another person under the sheets. I paused for a moment as I couldn’t remember who I slept with last night. I turned and pulled the cover off of his face. I blushed wildly and gently bit my bottom lip upon looking at his face. Just staring at him reminded me of the long night of passionate sex we had. Out of everyone I’ve slept with, and trust me, I didn’t go around sleeping with every knight, this man made me feel more than just pleasure. I constantly wonder if he loved his deceased wife like he loved me. At least, I assume he has such strong feelings towards me. Why else would he risk his rank as High Knight just to have several sessions with me? Not to mention taking time out for us to simply talk and be together when going on patrols.

“The same dream again?” He spoke as he slowly smirked with his eyes closed. I smiled as he opened one eye to gaze upon me.

“Yes, the same boring and meaningless dream.” I replied with a sigh. He brushed his hand through my messing hair as he moved me closer to his chest.

“It has meaning, Bridget. You just need to find the shining sun in that dark cloud of a mind you have.” He adjusted himself more to sit up right. I rolled my eyes with a smirk as I knew I was about to get lectured.

“The fact that the Lady of the Lake knew things before you mentioned it means that you were fated to carry those swords. Excalibur wasn’t meant for you. It was meant for a man in a time when he needed such a sword to accomplish his task. Those two blades of yours are exactly that, your blades for this point in time. Forget about what you don’t have and focus on what you do have.” He lifted my head up gently with his fingertips as our eyes locked.

“I know I had to learn the same lesson. My wife is gone. Yet here I am, in your arms, making love to a woman of great strength. I’m honored and thankful for what I have now. What I lost I can not get back. But I can look to my future with you in it.” My heart was pounding with excitement and joy the more he talked. He knew how to touch my soul with his very wise and truthful words. It was like a spell was cast upon me every time he spoke like that. I couldn’t help but agree. Having said that, a part of me still disagreed with his theory.

“I can’t promise I won’t bring this up again, and I’m sorry my obsession with this sword is a thorn that just pricks its way into what we have. I just feel like I deserve Excalibur. I need it if I’m going to rule over this kingdom one day.”

“So you’ve changed your mind again, silly fox.” He smirked and patted my head. I brushed his hand off and giggled as a reply. As I watched him get out of bed and start to get dressed, I sat at the edge thinking about what I truly wanted.

“I don’t know if I’m willing to take up such a large role. Defeating a tyrant and carrying the title of Champion is one thing. Ruling an entire kingdom is completely outside my comfort zone. Even with you beside me, I wouldn’t want to be…”

“Stuck?” He finished for me because I couldn’t think of a better word. I simply nodded my head as I got up and started getting dressed myself.

“Whatever you pick is up to you. Just know that I’ll be here.” Suddenly a horn blaring across town was heard through our window. We both sighed as we knew we were both late. Technically, it didn’t matter if he was late. He has held the title of High Knight for a few years now. As for me, I just earned that title several weeks ago.

“Your platoon is waiting for you, Bridget.” He taunted me as he slapped my ass on his way out the door. I yelped with pleasure and blushed a bit as I watched him leave. My serious demeanor slowly returned as I finished dressing myself and headed out. Once I arrived, I quickly put my platoon to work and performed their usual drills. I might have over worked them as my mind wasn’t focused on my duties. Some of them expressed that they’ve already done the deeds and tasks I’ve asked them to. What was more embarrassing is that I asked them to do it more than twice.

“Hey, you okay Bridget?” I perked up at first before I saw who was addressing me. Annoyance settled once I saw it was my sex toy of a man that still thinks he has a chance with me. Every now and then he would ask if we could have sex, ‘like the good old days’ he would put it. He would ask with such a timid approach that it was hard for me to say no. I felt bad since he was too shy to pursue other girls. Also, he was so stuck on me that many other women in our ranks tried to sleep with him but he refused every single one of them. Actually, they still throw themselves at him and he still denies them.

“Hello, earth to Bridget. Are you there?” I ignored him the first time on purpose. This man really couldn’t get the hint even if it smacked him in the balls.

“I’m fine, Finnor. I’m just distracted.” I finally replied. He rubbed the back of his head and nodded bashfully.

“Um… Yeah, I can see that. But, you’ve been telling that sage and his son to wait several times now. They’ve been standing there on our training field for a long while. Not to mention that our code has a thing about people not being knights standing on these fields, so…” My eyes widened as he talked. I looked over my shoulder and saw the two he mentioned. I felt my face become flushed with embarrassment. I couldn’t think, nor did I have anything to say back.

“Um, yes. Well… Take over for me, I’ll come back.” Before he could voice his objection, I hurried off to greet them.

“I’m sorry for the long wait, I was just… In the middle…” I slowed my pace and speech as their faces were becoming familiar.

“Hello Bridget.” The sage spoke, shocking me as my body tensed.

“Don’t worry, we’ve only met once. I gathered your name from your very timid friend there. He was so informal that he didn’t address you by your knighthood name. Apologize if that offends you.” I blinked a few times as his words stunned me a bit.

“Not at all, Bridget is fine. I know sages are high in rank as well, so you may address me in whatever way makes you comfortable.” He nodded and smiled as a thank you.

“My name is Yohan, and this is my son Yosin.” The young man reached out his hand and shook mine.

“We met before, a while back at Howling Lake.” My heart pounded so loudly in my chest. Several images of the Lady of the Lake giving me the swords scattered about within my mind. I cleared my throat and adjusted my posture as I tried to remember how they were tied into that event.

“Your confusion is expected. You see, my son carried you when you passed out several feet from the lake. You had lost a lot of blood dealing with that bandit. We obtained the rest of the story from the other knights that were giving chase that day. Once we met them on the main road, they took you back and thanked us with gold.” I was puzzled by the sage’s words. Why didn’t the other knights tell me about this when I woke up in my barracks that day?

“I covered you up with my own clothes. You were half naked by the time we reached you.” His father nudged him hard in the side, which made him wince a bit. I cracked a smirk as the sage tried to ignore the fact that his son just said something that didn’t need to be shared.

“Yes, that did occur. That was why your comrades gave us gold, to buy him a new outfit… Moving on.” He cleared his throat in preparation for his speech.

“We need your help, Hero of Geminis.” He paused as he looked deep into my eyes and displayed an expression of urgency.

“My dear knight, you have been selected to vanquish the evil that has been ruling over this kingdom for decades. After so many years of slumber, it is time to awaken the hero we need to save us all. You, High Knight of the Black Crow, are the key to starting this journey once more. This amulet has pronounced you the first Blue Dye Hero to rise up against these tyrants. By order of Elita, our long and forgotten queen, I charge you with this new role… Bridget, will you accept your fate, and become the savior of Geminis?” With such a speech like that, how could I refuse? My smile spread rapidly as I nodded my head. I reached out my arm to shake upon our new covenant.

“Sir Yohan, sage of olden times, I’ve been waiting for this moment for a very long time. I accept my new role, and place myself under your guidance and care.” Both the sage and his son smiled back with delight. Now, the only trick here was to train with this sage while maintaining my duties as a High Knight. I’m sure he had this part figured out. Otherwise, this quest of his wasn’t going to last long if he didn’t have some form of plan to take down this tyrant. The hardest part about all of this, was telling my loving High Knight Ulrik. We know the tales of the many heroes that failed on this journey. Will he allow me to go through with this knowing the chances of my dying are higher than succeeding? He had already lost his wife and two of his siblings. What will telling him this do to his heart? What will become of our bond? Why is fate so cruel that it would make love such a challenge to keep? I’ve already agreed to it. Hopefully, Ulrik will still be by my side through it all. Even if it just leads to my death…
