Hero Dyes - Blue

Chapter Fear of Restarting

Yohan: It was about to be over before it started. This Ulrik knight was going to end my first champion before I could even train her. The strange thing about his motive was that it was over love. I have loved so many times I can’t recall ever acting in such a way to prevent further heartbreak. Maybe I’m incapable of love now. Hearing Ulrik and Bridget arguing under the tent made me think about my relationship with my current wife. Am I truly in love with her? Have I’ve grown a custom to this feeling that it is simply an emotion I can detach from? Honestly speaking, I do not believe I would mourn my wife should something happen to her. I haven’t done so with my other ones.

“That was a bit too close.” Bridget whispered as we hid amongst the trees. The training courtyard was in our sights but a good distance away.

“Yes… So close…” My son whispered softly as his face blushed red. Bridget was currently pressing her entire body against him to conceal themselves behind the tree. This also allowed her to see if we were being followed I’m assuming. I frowned as my son smirked while enjoying the direct sight of her cleavage. I glared even more once Bridget noticed and raised herself on her toes a bit to further smother him with her breast. She was delighted in the fact that she was in control of his emotions at the moment. I sighed as I slowly picked up a nearby rock and tested its weight by lightly tossing it up and down a few times. I carefully took aim as the two of them were playing coy with each other. I whipped the rock out of my hand and sent it soaring like a dart through the air. The rock connected with her head, a direct hit.

“Ahh!!” Bridget yelped as she stumbled a bit. She glared at me as a bit of blood trickled down from her hair.

“What the hell-” Before she could raise her voice to an alarming volume, my son tackled her to the ground and cupped his hand over her mouth.

“Silence! You’ll alert the nearby knights!” He whispered frantically as he scanned the area to see if anyone was drawing near. I was impressed that my son wasn’t that distracted by her twisted charm. The fact that he was laying on her and still focused on the mission was unexpected. I assume she wasn’t used to strangers handling her in this way either. As much of a tease she tried to be, the table had turned, which left her blushing this time around.

“Let’s go, before I peg you with a rock as well.” I spoke up to my son. He looked confused as to why I wasn’t too concerned about being caught. Before he could speak Bridget had flipped him off of her and smirked as he winced in pain. She winked at him and hurried to catch up to me. As she walked by my side her head was held high. It annoyed me to the point that I started to think Sir Ulrik was right. Maybe she was better off dead and another, more suitable, hero was needed.

As we walked the two young and naïve ‘adults’ were getting along with each other. A lot of flirting was ensuing which set off a ticking time bomb within me. Once I believed we were far enough from the threat, I suddenly stopped and closed my eyes in preparation for what I was about to do. Without warning I slammed my hand into Bridget’s throat and forced her back into a tree as I squeezed. She gagged and gasped as her flailing attempts to free herself were pointless. My son was screaming and yelling for me to let her go, yet he didn’t do anything to help her.

“Shut it!” I roared at my son. He quickly became silent as Bridget still struggled against my grasp.

“Settle down and listen to my words, harlot.” I started off. I waited until she struggled less and focused on my words by glaring into my eyes.

“I’ve been down this road with many different types of people across my very long lifetime. I’ve trained great warriors and gutter raised slums. I’ve even tamed arrogant hot heads like you. So let me make this very clear, Bridget. I am not here to make friends with you, nor is my son. We are not your family. We are simply teachers and mentors. We are your bow, but only you can unlock the strength to draw back the string that propels the arrow forward. Do not forget that there are eight tyrants in total. Eight battles we must overcome. Eight chances I have with you to finally end this curse. If you fail once, then I start from zero and need to face all of the tyrants over again. Shapen up and focus your mind. Trust me, I will not be kind to you while training occurs. Do we have an understanding?” It took her a moment before all my words sunk in. She nodded her head, still glaring as I slowly let her go.

She huffed a bit as she tried to regain herself. Now that I’ve angered her it was time for lesson number one. I purposely turned my back towards her which made her do exactly what I knew she would do. She quickly found out that trying to attack me from behind was a mistake. Her fist clashes with an invisible barrier that ripples like water upon contact. I looked over my shoulder at her confused expression and laughed.

“Did you think I’d make it that easy?” I smirked as she narrowed her eyes and readied herself to fight me fairly now. Before we could settle into our fighting stances, we heard the sound of hooves racing towards our location. There was no time to hide or scatter. We were surrounded by knights within moments. A knight in white and gold made their way to the front and dismounted their horse. This was bad, as I knew what type of knight this was. From my knowledge Lord Magnus only had two Geminis Knights. If this was Leon however, the commander of the Geminis knights, Bridget's Dye Hero journey will end before it could even sprout wings and fly.

I didn’t think they would be this eager to end her life. A simple reminder of how ruthless Lord Magnus is. A harsh truth of how quick all of our work can be undone in a matter of seconds, and we haven't even begun. This is why I hate this quest. I looked to my son and saw the fear within his brave-face mask as he glared upon the knight. Take in this feeling, my son. Bathe in it, because it will happen again. We will lose, they will die, and we'll repeat this 'journey for the insane' as they call it. How long will you last, my son, before you give up? I wonder, truly, how strong is your resolve.
