Chapter 8~ Somethings never change
Chapter 8- Somethings never change
Ryan's words hang in the air.
He looked deeply into Lora's eyes like he was searching for something and his heart was pounding violently against his ribcage.
After a few seconds, Lora glanced at him and asked, "Are you referring to me? Didn't you get my name earlier? I'm Lora Davis."
"I know... it's just that you look like someone I know. You have the same face but a different name and identity-"
"I think Mr Kingsley mistook me for someone else. This is my first time coming to Moonstone City and I've never met you before," Lora replied calmly.
Deep down, she sneered coldly.
Yes, she is Larisa. She is also Lora Davis. She is back.
She hated the man before her with a passion. He was so ruthless back then and left her in the warehouse to die six years ago... no matter how kind Ryan looked at the moment, Lora knew him well. He was her heartless husband who chose to save his ex and left her to die.
Even though she hated him and wanted nothing to do with him, she had no choice but to act normally to avoid making him suspicious.
She had no intention of letting him know that she was alive! Never!.
When Ryan heard her words, he frowned. She was right... he had seen the warehouse blow up in front of his eyes. Perhaps it was his longing that made him hope Lora was Larisa.
He cleared his throat and said, "I get it... however, I don't intend to leave this place without securing a partnership with you. It's hard to get hold of you... I'm an opportunist and I make sure I get what I want when I have the chance."
"What makes you think you're special, Mr Kingsley? So many people want to work with me," Lora remarked. "Why should I choose you?"
"You just returned to the country and trying to take a strong footing in the company. Wouldn't the board members think highly of you if you immediately cooperated with the Kingsley group?" Ryan stated.
When he saw that he grabbed Lora's attention, he continued, "I know how company politics work. They won't be too happy that the CEO's daughter came from nowhere and just took over. Wouldn't it be easier to join hands with the most powerful group in the Country?" Lora scoffed. She replied, "I don't intend to rely on anyone. My skills are enough to prove that I'm
capable."
Ryan's face twitched. He didn't expect his suggestion to be easily brushed off by Lora. After all, everyone wished to form a partnership with the Kingsley Group.
Why was this woman so uninterested?
He chuckled and said, "Let me rephrase that. My company needs you, Miss Davis. We are expanding into the jewelry business and would love to cooperate with you. We will provide the raw materials and you will provide the designs. What do you say?" Lora crossed her arms. She arched an eyebrow, a move that made her look more alluring. "You're the one who needs my company. Can't you show a little more sincerity?"
Ryan's eyes narrowed. He didn't expect Lora to be so difficult. However, he really needed the partnership because this jewelry company was so important to him.
Larisa loved jewelry, so, Ryan wanted to open a jewelry company in memory of her. 2
"We can negotiate the terms in your favour. All want is to partner with a company with the best jewelry designers in the city," Ryan offered.
Lora's eyebrows creased. She knew Ryan was right. If anything, she needed this partnership more. Her return had brought a lot of conflicts among the board members and partnering with the Kingsley group would calm them down temporarily. It was a good way to keep them off her back as she worked on improving the company and proving herself.
However, there was no way she could let Ryan know that she needed his company. She looked at him emotionlessly and said, "I'm not promising anything but I'll think about it. My assistant will call you."
Ryan's eyes lit up. He smiled and replied, "I can't wait to work with you, Miss Davis."
Lora nodded and was about to turn around to leave when Ryan grabbed her arm.
"Wait..." he uttered and looked into her eyes again.
A complex feeling rushed through him, giving him a sense of nostalgia.
It had been so long since he saw Larisa's face and looking at the woman who looked so much like her, he couldn't help but want to look at her face a little more.
When he touched Lora, he felt an electric shock course through him and his heart skipped a beat. Was it possible for two different people to look the same and feel the same?
He glanced at Lora and frowned, "You..."
"Ryan..."
A soft voice called out to him from behind and Ryan turned to look. Ivy was wheeling herself towards him.
While he was distracted, Lora flung his hand away roughly and spat, "Mr Kingsley, please behave appropriately!"
When Ryan turned to look at Lora, there was a sudden bang from behind followed by a sharp scream of pain.
When he glanced back, he found that Ivy had bumped into one of the tables and fallen to the ground with the wheelchair falling on top of her.
His eyes widened and he anxiously called out to her, "lvy!"
He rushed towards Ivy and picked her up bridal style before carrying her out of the hall at the speed of light.
At the same time, Lora sneered coldly when she saw that. She shook her head and thought, 'Some things never change.'
It was a good thing she had moved on and had no intention of entertaining Ryan and his drama.
