Chapter 66
Chapter 66
She had a lot to be grateful for, and she knew that she was lucky to have such wonderful friends and family. But as she blew out the candles on her cake, she couldn't help but wish that Liam was there with her, sharing in the celebration. She began to go over her gift when she saw a package with "Liam" label on it. It was a vase of flowers and a letter.
She couldn't believe that Liam had actually sent her flowers on her birthday, after all this time. She had received a beautiful bouquet of roses and lilies, along with a handwritten letter from him.
At first, Diana was flattered. She had always had a soft spot for Liam, even after they had broken up. But as she read through the letter, her feelings began to change.
Liam apologized for the way things had ended between them, and begged for a second chance. He promised to do better this time, and told her how much he still loved and missed her. Diana couldn't help but feel touched by the words in the letter. But as much as she wanted to believe Liam, she knew deep down that things would never work out between them.
She had moved on, and she was happy with her life now. She didn't want to go back to the pain and heartache that their relationship had caused her in the past.
With tears streaming down her face, Diana grabbed the letter and the flowers, and threw them in the trash. She knew it was a cruel thing to do, but she couldn't bear to look at them any longer. She needed to put the past behind her, and move on with her life.
She blew out the candles and made her way to bed, hoping that tomorrow would bring a new day and a fresh start.
The next morning, Diana woke up feeling a little bit better. She had cried herself to sleep the night before, but she had also managed to get a good night's rest. She stretched and sat up in bed, feeling a little bit more ready to face the day.
She got dressed and headed to the kitchen, determined to make herself a good breakfast. She had a long day ahead of her, with work and errands to take care of, and she wanted to start the day off on the right foot.
As she was cooking eggs and bacon, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Liam. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should answer or not. But in the end, she decided to pick up. "Hey, Liam," she said, trying to sound casual.
"Hey, Diana," Liam said, his voice hesitant. "I just wanted to apologize for calling you last night. I didn't mean to upset you or anything. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday." Diana felt a pang of guilt. She hadn't meant to be rude to Liam the night before, but she had been so caught up in her own sadness that she hadn't been able to mask it. "It's okay, Liam," she said, sighing. "I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have taken it out on you. I was just feeling a little down, that's all."
"I understand," Liam said, his voice softening. "I miss you, Diana. I miss us. I know we can't go back, but I just wanted to let you know that I still care about you."
Diana's heart skipped a beat. She had been hoping to hear those words for a long time, and it was a relief to finally have them out in the open.
"I miss you, too, Liam," she said, her voice trembling. "I still care about you, too. I just don't know if we can make it work."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and then Liam spoke again. "I understand if you don't want to get back together," he said.

"But I just want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make things right between us."
Diana felt tears prick at her eyes. She didn't know what the future held, but she knew that she still loved Liam, and that she wanted to try and make things work.
"I'll think about it, Liam," she said, her voice choking with emotion. "I just need some time to process everything."
"I understand," Liam said, his voice filled with compassion. "Take all the time you need, Diana. I'll be here when you're ready."
They talked for a little while longer, catching up on everything that had happened since they had last spoken.
And as they talked, Diana couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for them to make things work.
She hung up the phone with a smile on her face, feeling a little bit lighter. She still had a lot to think about, but for the first time in a long time, she felt like there was a chance for happiness in her future. And that was something worth it. Daina took time to think about Liam's request but after much thought, she concluded that she doesn't want to get back with Liam.
She still loved him but getting back with him was like going back to lick her vomit and she couldn't do that.
One quiet evening, she called him and Liam picked up like he had been expecting her call.

He spoke first and Daina took some time to relish his voice because she wouldn't be hearing it in a while.
"Hello Diana" his voice boomed through the speakers of her phone. "How have you been?"
"Great!" She said with a laugh. "You?" She added swiftly
"Very well, thanks." He responded and both of them fell silent.
"I called because..."
"I wanted to ask you why you called..." They spoke together and laughed.
"Yeah... ladies first is the rule, right?" Liam questioned and Daina pictured him with a smirk, dancing on his lips.
"Liam, we can't be together. You're my ex and I don't want us to get back together". Diana spoke, firmly.
Liam felt devastated and sorrowful but he comforted himself and acted like he had expected the reply after which they made some chit chat and ended the call.
