Chapter 49
Angeline suddenly became curious. When she casually mentioned Floretta’s mother in front of Evander previously, he had
chased her out of the car.
It seemed like that woman had become a taboo topic.
Revealing a look of confusion, Floretta replied, “I don’t know. I’ve never seen my mom since young. Grandma said that she didn’t
want me.”
“Furthermore, Grandma only likes boys, so she keeps forcing Daddy to marry Ms. Sherrock and have an heir. Once Daddy
actually marries that woman, I’ll be kicked out of the house to wander the streets.” Floretta sighed heavily, propping an arm
beneath her chin with a troubled look.
Her sighs made her seem like an adult.
Although Angeline knew that Floretta was exaggerating, she still felt her heart ache when she heard that.
If she had not lost her daughter, she would be as old as Floretta by now.
Whenever she looked at Floretta’s situation, her thoughts would wander to her child. Although she might not live as good a life
as Floretta, but she...
Angeline did not dare to continue her thoughts. Tears welled up as she raised her head slightly and fanned her eyes.
Floretta was shocked by her reaction.
What’s happening? Not only did I fail at setting up Angel’s and Daddy’s marriage, but I also made her cry! Oh no! Am I going to
be chased out by Ms. Sherrock to the streets? Can I still survive by being a child celebrity?
Floretta quickly whipped out a piece of tissue paper and passed it to Angeline so she could wipe her tears. In a cute voice,
Floretta consoled, “Angel, don’t be sad. Daddy treats me very well.”
Angeline calmed down and stroked Floretta’s head with a determined look in her eyes.
“Floretta, you must believe that your mother had her own reasons. No mother in the world is cruel enough to abandon her child.
You must grow up well and wait for her to find you again.”
By saying that, she had already solidified her determination to find her child.
After they finished eating, Lester suddenly called Angeline over to film another shot, which would take around ten minutes.
During that period, Francesca would probably have arrived.
Hence, Angeline told Floretta to stay in the room to drink her yogurt and wait for her return.
Floretta agreed easily. Since she looked so confident, Angeline did not think much about it and left the lounge.
However, a few minutes after Angeline left, someone suddenly knocked on the door.
“Who’s that?”
“I’m a staff from the cake shop. You ordered a strawberry cake from us in the morning. Can you follow me to retrieve it?”
When she heard that, Floretta’s eyes lit up.
This must be Angel’s surprise for me!
The more she thought about it, the more excited she got. She climbed down from the bed, ran to open the door, and said to the
man standing outside, “Bring me there!”
The man held Floretta’s hand and walked forward. When they reached the ground floor, he suddenly led her around multiple
corners. Their surroundings became darker as they progressed.
Feeling scared, Floretta tugged the man’s arm and refused to budge. “Sir, send me back! I’ll get it after Angel comes back.”
However, the man turned his head around and revealed a vicious smile. He lifted Floretta abruptly and tossed her into the
freezer room at the side.
After Angeline finished her filming, she was done with her work, so Lester let her leave early.
She planned to bring Francesca and Floretta to the nearby amusement park in the afternoon. Yet, when she returned to the
lounge, Floretta was nowhere to be seen.
Her heart instantly sank. She felt so anxious that she could barely stand on her feet as a worried look appeared on her face.
If Francesca had brought Floretta away, she would have informed me.
“Oh my God! There’s a little girl in the freezer room. Whose daughter is she!” At that moment, someone’s yells traveled to
Angeline’s ears.
Without any time to think, she ran down the stairs and dashed to the freezer room on the ground floor as quickly as possible.
“Help!” A weak, child-like voice sounded.
Fear gripped Angeline’s heart. She swiftly opened the door of the freezer room and was instantly enveloped by a gust of cold air.
Angeline raised her hand and fanned the pungent smell of chemicals away. Scanning the messy freezer room, she yelled,
“Where are you, Floretta?”
“Angel...”
Floretta, who was only wearing a thin shirt, was cowering behind a pile of boxes. She hugged her knees, her small body curled
up into a ball.
Trembling uncontrollably, she had closed her eyes in fear.
When Angeline saw that scene, her eyes watered before tears rolled down her cheeks. Her entire mind was occupied by nothing
else than self-blame.
“Don’t be scared, Floretta! I’ll bring you out!”
Angeline walked forward and pulled Floretta into her arms. When she felt how cold the girl’s body was, a chill ran down her
spine.
Yet, when she reached the door, she realized an even more serious problem.
The door could not be opened!
Suddenly, realization dawned upon her. A gloomy look spread across her face as she understood that she had fallen into
someone’s trap.
The temperature in the freezer room would drop as time passed. Are they trying to kill me and Floretta?
“I’m s-so cold, Angel! So c-cold...”
Still in Angeline’s arms, Floretta tugged the woman’s collar. Her tiny body trembled as she sobbed, tears rolling down her fair
cheeks.
Angeline felt like something was gripping her heart tightly, suffocating her and filling her with pain.
Luckily, there was a small window high up in the freezer room that was still open. She carried Floretta to the wall the window was
located and took off her coat, wrapping it around the child’s body.
“Hang in there, Floretta! Trust me! I’ll definitely bring you out of here safely,” assured Angeline repeatedly beside Floretta’s ears.
She rubbed her hands together to generate some warmth and cupped Floretta’s cheeks.
Soon, Floretta’s body became warmer. On the contrary, Angeline, who only had a thin blouse left on, grew progressively colder.
When Francesca visited the film set to pick Floretta up, she could not find her. Hence, she quickly called Evander. “Mr. Golding,
Ms. Sorelle and Floretta are both missing!”
Within ten minutes, Evander instructed Sylas to dispatch two groups of bodyguards. One group surrounded the film crew and
interrogated everyone, while the other combed the entire venue.
Evander also postponed all the meetings he had in the afternoon and rushed to the film set as quickly as possible.
He entered the surveillance room with a cold expression, exuding an intimidating aura that made everyone struggle to breathe.
Lester welcomed him and said respectfully, “Mr. Golding, I’ve looked at the surveillance cameras at every corner. The last place
Ms. Sorelle and Floretta were at before they disappeared was the lounge.”
Evander’s expression grew grim as a murderous look flitted across his eyes.
“Are you saying that they disappeared into thin air?”
“I...”
“Useless piece of trash.”
Evander shoved him away, went to the computers, and stared at the surveillance monitors. He instructed, “Replay all the footage
at the fastest speed! Even at the expense of the entire film crew, you must find them for me!”
