Chapter 38
She really wishes to act...
Evander couldn’t help but stop in his tracks. After making sure that it was safe, he went to take a seat in an obscure corner. He
could see Angeline’s and Floretta’s every move from that angle.
Angeline had yet to notice him and was continuing to act passionately.
The current scene was set in a police station.
Angeline was sitting on a chair in a dark room, wearing handcuffs. A dim yellow light was shining at the side of her face, making
her look gloomier.
She looked at the police officer in front of her and asked anxiously, “How’s the girl? Is she okay?”
The police officer gave her the side-eye and said expressionlessly, “Stop pretending that you care. You were the one who
kidnapped her.”
Angeline covered her face with her hands and began crying silently. “I’m sorry... I shouldn’t have done it...”
Tears rolled down her fingers and fell onto the table, forming a puddle.
“You inhuman human trafficker!” Suddenly, a woman barged into the room and looked at Angeline with hatred. Floretta was
behind the woman.
The moment Angeline saw Floretta, she stood up abruptly from her seat and walked toward her with joy flashing across her
eyes. “Thank goodness you’re okay...”
“How dare you touch my daughter?” The young mother grabbed Angeline’s hair. I’m going to teach you a lesson, you human
trafficker!
Angeline hugged her head, and unable to resist it, she fell to the ground.
The woman pressed Angeline hard on the ground and slapped her like a madwoman.
Angeline grimaced in pain and rolled on the ground. Her eyes were bloodshot as she clutched the floor that was stained with
sweat with her fingers.
It was only a fake fight, but Gordon and the other film crew members were so captivated by her realistic acting that they all
gasped in shock.
Even the man acting as the police officer had forgotten his lines.
At that moment, Floretta ran up to Angeline and hugged her tightly. “Stop! Don’t hit her anymore! She’s been nothing but kind to
me! She’s not a bad person!”
Everyone was stunned when they heard Floretta’s determined voice. That included Angeline. She didn’t expect that Floretta
would plead for her. Looking at the little girl, Angeline murmured, “No. It’s all my fault. I did something wrong. I—”
“Ma’am, I know you only did that because you needed money for your son’s medical bills! I don’t blame you!”
“I’m sorry...” Angeline cried hysterically. Her hoarse voice was piercing and unbearable to the human ears.
“I’m so sorry, kid. I can’t bring myself to face you and my son. I can’t get enough money to treat his illness. I’m a terrible
mother...”
Her realistic emotions made Floretta cry too. Floretta walked over to her and hugged her lightly. Although she didn’t say
anything, that gesture alone was enough to melt everyone’s heart.
At that moment, the camera zoomed out and fixed on the scene of them embracing each other.
With that, the film ended.
Angeline vividly portrayed her role as a woman who had lost her rationality and a mother with no choice.
Everyone had cheered after Denise finished shooting.
However, only silence followed when Angeline’s scene ended. Everyone was shocked and hadn’t returned to reality.
“Cut!” Gordon shouted dazedly while wiping off his tears after some time.
Meanwhile, Angeline was half kneeling on the ground as she covered her face with her hands. She hadn’t gotten out of character
yet. Her shoulders were trembling slightly. It seemed that she was crying.
Evander stared at her and was a little fascinated. Judging from how he was staring at her, it seemed that he didn’t hate her as
much as he did before.
The scene with Floretta that Angeline had improvised on her own was the finishing touch. She had changed the character from a
villainess to a desperate mother, and no one could bring themselves to hate such a character.
In terms of acting skills, she was a soulful actress who handled details well.
“Guys, look! Look at the votes on the internet!” someone shouted, and everyone else quickly moved up to look at the votes.
Evander’s lips pursed into a hard line as he took out his phone and logged on to his Twitter account, which he seldom used.
Angeline’s votes had suddenly risen to half a million from the hundred thousand from earlier. Then, it kept growing until it was the
same as Denise’s.
Everyone inhaled sharply. After that, the votes continued rising to two million, and it kept going. It didn’t look like the vote would
stop anytime soon.
The comments section was going crazy as well. Someone commented: What an outstanding performance! As expected of a
celebrity who has received numerous awards! She’s better than those actresses who rely on their looks! Also, that little girl is just
so adorable.
Another wrote: I’m proud to call myself Angeline’s fan! Who wouldn’t fall in love with such a beautiful and humble actress with
such excellent acting skills?
“No! This is impossible! How can this be? She must have cheated!” Denise was shocked when she looked at the votes, and she
dropped her phone.
However, how could it be faked with such a huge gap?
“Don’t cry, Angel.”
Floretta’s voice brought Angeline back to her senses.
Angeline lifted her head and saw Floretta’s worried expression. Floretta took a piece of tissue from her little bear bag and wiped
Angeline’s tears. “Angel, we won. Shouldn’t you be happy? Why are you crying?”
Stunned, Angeline looked around. Only then did she realize that her votes had surpassed Denise’s.
She smiled, and joy filled her eyes as she patted Floretta’s head. “Thank you, Floretta. You were great earlier! You’ve helped me
a lot!”
Floretta blinked, and the happiness in her eyes was obvious to the naked eye.
My goddess just complimented me!
Not far away, Gordon was reporting to Evander respectfully. When Angeline saw Evander’s cold face, she frowned.
I thought he’d get someone to pick Floretta up. Who would’ve thought that he’d come in person?
She walked up to Evander with Floretta. When Floretta reached Evander, she jumped into his arms and asked happily, “How did
I do, Mr. Golding?”
Evander raised his eyebrows when he heard her calling him that.
He had asked her to call him that in public because he didn’t want anyone to know Floretta’s real identity to avoid unnecessary
trouble. I’m sure she feels aggrieved having to call me Mr. Golding when I’m her father.
Thinking about that, he couldn’t get mad at her. All he did was pat her buttock and remind her in an icy voice, “Floretta, this is the
second time you sneaked out! You’ll be grounded for an hour once we get home.”
“Fine! Why do you have to be so fierce?” Floretta pouted. I helped my goddess, so this is worth it!
Angeline looked at him seriously and smiled. “Thank you for lending this lucky star to me, Mr. Golding.”
Evander pulled Floretta behind him as he stood up. His shadow towered over Angeline. “Ms. Sorelle, I believe I’ve said this more
than once. Don’t use Floretta!”
Angeline frowned slightly. She didn’t expect him to embarrass her in public. “Mr. Golding, you’ve misunderstood—”
