Chapter 40
Regina’s POV
The feeling of contentment that is engulfing my heart, by watching King tearing his enemies' flesh is something unexplainable.
He has killed every single of them in the most brutal way, but his beast is not satisfied yet as he wants to annihilate them completely.
I should feel disgusted, probably scared, seeing him completely surrendering to his beast's desire, but there are no such feelings. If anything I am feeling proud to know that this man is mine... while I belong to him.
"I can't believe it is over." I smile watching their destroyed bodies wrapped in body bags as my King knows how much uncleanliness irritates me.
"These elders are gone, but it is not over," Theo speaks from my side, as a grave expression is settled on his face, "Someone else will take their place, it never ends."
"They call us blood-hungry creatures, but in reality, they are the ones who love shedding blood. They are after our families, our people... killing them inhumanly." His gaze hardens as he blankly stares ahead. "Forcing us to live with the agonizing memories of their torture."
I can hear the hint of sadness in his voice as he must be thinking about the hunters who have killed his mother.
"Then their fate will be the same as these elders. No one is going to get away with the ill-deeds." Glancing at him, I place my hand over his arm causing him to look at me.
My words hold a promise... a promise which will be kept at any cost. If anyone dares to lift an eye against my family then I will not rest until I know that they are not alive to share the horrors of their death with the world.
There is a strange feeling stirring inside me, which is mine at the same time it feels foreign. Like when I heard about how these elders treated Atlas’s kind, just thought of that ignited a strange fury inside me... I don’t know how to explain but the anger I have felt was something almost blinding. Still, now that fury is not satisfied as it keeps on growing, urging me to tear their hearts with my bare hands. And now when I think about Theo's suffering at the hands of these hunters I just want to bring back these elders from death, only to kill them in a more agonizing way.
Sudden restlessness grips my chest, as my head feels heavy. I massage my temples with my fingers while closing my eyes, as I take a deep breath trying to calm myself but a unique smell reaches my nose twisting my insides. I feel parched as my mouth dries, and with every breath I take, the restlessness is increasing inside me.
Placing my hand over my chest, I rub my chest while swallowing to moisten my throat.
“Regina, are you alright?” Theo gingerly touches my shoulder noticing my discomfort.
“I am just feeling a bit restless.” Clenching my eyes, I shake my head while licking my lips.
“I need water.” I swallow again as my throat turns completely dry.
“I will get it,” Felix answers and goes to fetch water for me.
King’s snarls and the sound of flesh ripping reach my ears making me open my eyes.
“Regina...” Theo whispers as a hint of shock is present in his voice. “Your eyes.”
“What happened to my eyes?” Glancing at him, I frown not understanding why he is sounding shocked while the pressure inside my head increases.
“Here.” A moment later Felix appears handing me a water bottle, but his eyes momentarily widen when his gaze lands on my face.
“What is happening, guys? Why are you reacting this way?” I ask while uncapping the water bottle, I gulp down as much water as I can in one go, however, it does nothing to quench my thirst.
Before they can answer, my thirst intensifies, and the burning which encases my chest almost makes me whimper.
“Atlas!” Theo calls him and the next moment I find myself in a familiar pair of comforting arms as Atlas looks at me with a concern-filled gaze.
King is still in control as his chest is still vibrating with low snarls, however, his eyes have a trace of softens in them. Abruptly, my eyes shift to the blood which is covering him and the sudden urge to taste it surprises me.
My mouth waters as I almost find myself leaning forward to taste it.
“Take her out of here,” King orders pushing me into Theo’s arm, as he glances at me alarmingly.
As soon as he separates me from him anger consumes making me growl in fury as my eyes shift to the blood.
“Right now!” He demands the moment I take a step towards him.
Theo instantly grabs me and tightens his grip when I try to fight him.
“Leave me.” My voices out threatening as I shift my gaze between Atlas and Theo, “What the hell do you think you are doing?”
Atlas looks at Theo and I can see a silent communication between them. After a moment Theo nods his head as he picks me up, twisting my body slightly I punch his jaw which causes his beast to come forward as the golden rings appear in his eyes.
“Don’t fight...please.” He clenches his jaws and shakes his head as he carries me outside completely ignoring my murderous glare.
Another whimper leaves my lips when I feel like somebody is pouring hot lava down my throat, burning my chest as well, as I bite my lip hard to stop myself from crying.
“I don’t know what is happening, Theo.” I whisper while feeling lightheaded, “My chest... my throat is burning, and it hurts.”
“You will be fine.” Somehow Theo senses my pain as his gaze holds a sympathetic expression as he quickens his pace.
Black dots start to appear before my eyes, as I feel myself losing my consciousness. I feel Theo saying something to me, but I can't register any of his words and soon darkness consumes my senses.
