(Book 5)- Chapter 62
Third Person
Seth heard the yell from across the courtyard. “Rogues!” echoed through his ears while his mind linked to his family. They had come far too early, earlier than the expected time that the Kitsune would find out about Trinity being gone from the territory.
While Seth expected for wolves, bears and maybe vampires to invade the forest and then into the clearing, he was greeted with something surprising. Small squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, all with b***d eyes running towards them. One wolf had at least a dozen on his body alone. They were biting, ripping at his fur. He howled while trying to claw the creatures off his body in his wolf form. Some fell from their body only to be trampled by enormous claws into the dirt. The squish from the b***d tangled in between the pads of his paws.
The wolf fell to the ground in a howl, sizzling sounds followed by smoke tendrils dancing into the air caught Seth’s eye. While many pack members shifted, Seth ran to the lone wolf who was burning. The wolf shifted quickly back into a human, shaking uncontrollably. They laced the bite marks with silver. Instead of having large prey to fight against, they would deal with small rodents.
“Someone get over here, help him to sickbay!” Seth yelled into the courtyard. “He needs b***d, have the workers there get him stable, get the morphine.” The two pack members nodded their head, hands visibly shaking. They were from the Red Moon pack, wolves inexperience in enormous battles.
More rodents jumped from the trees, swarming the court yard. The pitter patter of their feet, the clicks and chirps now flooded Seth’s ears. Caspian growled inside his body, ready to be unleashed. With one turn of his head to crack his neck, Seth felt the hair explode from his body. His body grew another two feet before he finally stopped. Seth’s fangs elongated, dripping with venom. The silver wouldn’t hurt this Lycan, but it could very well slow him down if he wasn’t careful.
Sadie ran out of the pack house, holding her clipboard. Wolves were howling, screaming in pain as the animals continued to flood out of the forest. Instead of transforming into her wolf, Gaia, she ran in her ballet flats to the battlefield in front of the house.
Jumping over rodents that try to latch onto her unscarred skin, she continued to dart between wolves that didn’t need her help. Soon she found herself by the side of her mate. “I’m fast enough,” she spoke aloud, hoping Seth would hear over the screams. “I’ll heal what I can just to make them stable. I’ve already taken care of the one.”
Caspian flexed his muscles, threw his head back, and let out a roar that shook the ground. Not only did the rodents that still hung in the trees fall to the ground to their death, but the ones on the ground shuttered in fear.
Whatever magic was placed over the rodents could not keep them going. They scurried away from the Lycan beast, hoping they would not be in its ferocious path. They did, however, go to the wolves furthest away from Seth, only to try to quickly nibble at least a bit or two, inflicting enough silver.
Bohdi waved her hands around themselves, blasting fire into groups of them. Rabbits screamed, their high pitch wail pierced ears, running away completely on fire. Squirrels tried to jump from branches to land on her head, but the force field around her body had them only falling away from her. “Stupid little shits,” she cursed under her breath. Her marks warmed on her body, feeling her mate awakening from his transformation sleep. ‘It’s too early,’ she thought. ‘He can’t wake up, not now.’
Bohdi arched her back, screaming in frustration. Electricity bolted from her body, webs and vines of the blue light attached to any small living creature. Several wolves breathed a sigh of relief as half the population of rabid animals cease to exist.
“Are you alright?” Sadie spoke to Bohdi while she rubbed a wolf laying on the ground. The she-wolf shifted back into her human form. “You are going to be alright,” Sadie told the woman. “Once we get b***d transferred, you will be fine.” Two more wolves picked her up to take her inside the pack house.
“I’m fine,” Bohdi said sternly. “Spencer is waking up and I’m not there.” Mia, who was swatting rodents with a bat rather than shift, finding it much easier to use her small stature to advantage, ears perked up.
“No way,” Mia spoke. “So far everything contradicts itself with these transformations, it’s getting a bit annoying,” Mia’s bat swung at the white rabbit, who then hit the side of the house.
“Not now Mia,” Sadie spoke. “It’s happening. Question is, what is going to happen next?” Bohdi stood in the front courtyard, her fingers twitched and burned. She wanted nothing more than to be with her mate as he woke from his thick slumber. Spencer was so worried his mate wouldn’t stay. He gave her not one, but two marks on her shoulders. His power would be the same, but the extra mark gave Bohdi a sense of pride. Her mate wanted her so badly he would mark her body over and over, which turned her on immensely.
Bohdi arched her back again, her low cut top almost exposing her breasts. The sky darkened as a giant white light pierced right into her heart. Letting out a yell of fury, electricity weaved in and out, over and under and through each rodent. They fell dead in the tracks, giving the wolves a sigh of relief.
“Should have done that first.” Caspian towered over her.
“Well then, where is the fun in that?” Bohdi mocked. “We need to be wise about this. I don’t know how far my power can stretch. I can already feel my aura weakening, I just got upset over my mate,” Bohdi choked back a cry.
Caspian snorted, white steam coming from his nose. “Only a joke.”
“It was a bad one,” Bohdi snickered.
The pack numbers were great at the beginning of the battle. The rodents had hit them hard. Now they have lost half of their army. Many wounded wolves lay bloodied on the ground. The smell of metallic, burning flesh and now crispy rodents hovered in the air. The small bites proved deadly with the venom in their saliva, rendering their healing abilities against the silver futile.
“Barbaque anyone?” Marco walked up after shifting back to his human form. “That fox is smart, sending smaller enemies to attack us. I don’t think it’s over yet.”
Everyone agreed. The wind shifted in an opposing direction than that of the natural wind pattern. Bohdi took a large breath, feeling the magical properties in the air. “They are breeching the ward.” Bohdi cracked her neck. “The larger enemies I had counted on crossing from the beginning are standing just across from it. Sorry, my ward could not account for the smaller ones.”
“Everyone, get the wounded inside,” Seth waved Bohdi off, letting her know he didn’t blame her. Who could when a Kitsune was to blame. The Kitsune may not be as strong as Bohdi, but he was clever and cunning, something Seth was not. He was the muscle, the ferocious fighter he was brought up to be. He did as his Queen said, not even caring if he looked like a rug for her to walk on. Seth rounded up the few wolves that were not carrying the wounded warriors. He had them stand just short of the wooded area, prepared for the second wave.
Seth walked up and down the line. In his Lycan form, the wolves bowed as he walked past them. They respected their king, knowing the sacrifices Sadie and Seth had made protecting the shifter Kingdom in Bergarian. They would do the same again to protect the wolves on Earth, even if it meant losing something precious like they had once done before.
Seth’s claws clanked against each other, spark flying between his fingertips. The short time he had his daughter, Mia’s, help he had learned much about his form. The continuation of his sharpened claws after each strike, the magic he could rip through like paper once it surrounded him, as well as his mighty roar that could have selected effect on certain species to cower at his feet.
Seth’s powerful legs halted, ears picking up any sort of sounds before his army of wolves. The pounding of light-footed animal feet was coming closer.
“Get ready,” Caspian’s voice rattled the wolves’ chests. Landon, the head warrior of the Red Moon pack, salivated fiercely. Nothing would keep him from his mate, Stacy, now. Hades himself would have to rip him from the Earth before anything would happen to her. He was now at his most dangerous self, a wolf accepting the mate he had always wanted for many years. The urge was strong to claim her. His jealousy and rage for anyone that dared to touch her was filtered into his l**t for b***d and kill of the enemy. His fellow pack members noticed the shift, both fearful for their own lives if they dared even speak of his mate’s name.
The sudden silence of the trees had hair on every wolf’s body stand up. Chills ripped through the wolves as the first animal came into view, a bear red in his eyes, showing no form of any human inside. These were rogue animals, no humans inside. This Kitsune had strange power if he truly could control the animals of nature.
Larger prey would be easy, especially for the Warrior Pack. Seth and Caspian smiled savagely. “Now!” Caspian howled into the air, causing the rogue animals to tremble, giving the wolves enough time to attack two, three at a time. Being sure they were careful enough not to have the b***d fill their throats.
Rogue bears and wolves came down one by one. Wolves of the Red Moon pack were dropping like flies, unable to keep up with the massive attack. This pack was smaller than anything in Bergarian, not used to the massive wars or battles. Seth, realizing this, sent out an order through the mind like. Being king, he could mind link an entire area with no problems. The Red Moon pack retreated, heading back into the pack house. Those who had fallen were dragged backwards, ready for Sadie to touch their foreheads to slow the poison.
Sadie’s breath deepened. She stayed close to the pack house steps. Each wolf that came near her, her fingertips grazed their foreheads. With as many wolves that have been coming in the pack house, her power was being used at an alarming rate. The poison was now going at a slow enough pace through the b***d so they could be saved if the b***d bags came back in time. Sadie’s thoughts turned to her sons and new daughter. She prayed they were safe and not captured. The bond she shared with her sons made her believe they were still alive. No pain came to her heart when she thought of them.
However, Sadie couldn’t feel Trinity at all. Sadie worried, only to be knocked from her stupor and began touching more wolves being piled in the house. The medical ward was filled with naked men and women. Ranging from small bites from the rodents to larger swipes from bears and wolves across their bodies. It was a hard sight to see, especially when shifters are supposed to heal quickly. They all now looked like humans, some mauled beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, Landon didn’t listen to the order. Literally, his rage kept the mind link closed, even from his king. His wolf was constantly worrying about Stacy, with no abilities to keep her from defending herself. Seth saw the b***d l**t in Landon’s eyes. He refused to force an Alpha command to have him go back. The warrior in Landon was that matched of his own pack. Seth made a mental note to have him join the pack. Then again, they may need him in a small pack such as this.
There were no more animals in the forest left to fight. Now they dealt with ordinary rogue shifters. The mindset of a shifter differed from a rogue. The moves were more calculated, more thought through, making it more difficult.
Bohdi’s powers were weakening nearby. Lightening strikes were not as potent. Her fire balls became smaller. Her physical self was weak, even though she had the mark of her mate on her shoulders.
Bohdi realized she had not completed her change just moments ago when she tried to punch a wolf. The goddess Hecate awoke Bohdi early, knowing that the fight would be a close one.
Gods were not to interfere with the fights of Earth and Bergarian realms, however, the close connection and the undying devotion Bohdi had served while being alive made her gain favor. Not to mention her close connection to Hades in the past with his mate, Parisa. This was the only time Hecate would interfere, otherwise Zeus would realize what she was doing. The laws were there for a reason, so that they favored no species over the other.
The wolves’ fire sparked again as Seth let out another roar. It was enough fuel for the wolves to jump back into action. The rogues, picked one by one, were now down to five. A group of twenty warrior wolves destroyed them in an instant, giving the battle a brief break.
“Numbers,” Caspian growled out. Marco trotted up to the Lycan in his wolf form.
“We have a quarter left of fighting wolves from winced we started.” Seth growled out. The battle had lasted over eight hours. Wolves had no break, and it didn’t look like one would come soon. The forest was quiet, for now, another ominous sign that yet another wave was about to come.
Bohdi lay on the ground, not caring if b***d was drenching her clothes. Her body was physically overworked, her aura no longer held the brightness of her face. There was no more magic left to give. The ward was completely broken. Her eyes fluttered a few times, a few tears dipped down her cheeks.
She continued to feel Spencer. He was trying to wake up. He was close just earlier in the day, only to fall deeper into his sleep. Bohdi had missed her mate. The first week of mating was special, and the bond was strong. Bohdi’s power would be stronger if Spencer was by her side, but he needed the rest. A wolf with some witch abilities would prove helpful when he woke up, but now wasn’t the time. Sadie ran to Bohdi, her fingers grazing over her forehead.
“I hope this helps.” Sadie’s face was stark pale. It had been many years since she had felt this drained, not since the Dark War. Then she would shift from wolf to human, giving herself breaks from healing to regain some of her power. This battle was different. She had no choice to save every single wolf because she knew her new daughter would die inside knowing someone gave their life for hers.
Bohdi felt the wave of strength Sadie could give. Sitting up, she held onto Sadie, giving her a longing hug. “I’m sorry I couldn’t keep them out,” Bohdi almost cried for the first time in a long while.
Sadie couldn’t help but chuckle. “You can’t seriously think that you were to keep all those things out, did you?” Bohdi sobbed again, not just from failure but frustration. This was a long battle, and it didn’t show signs of stopping as the trees in the woods stilled again.
Matthew and Ajax walked up to Bohdi, sitting on the ground. Both of them had rips in the clothes, b***d and scratches on their faces. Luckily, the silver poison wouldn’t affect a sorcerer, but now Bohdi was in danger because of her shared genetics with Spencer.
“We are radiating a ward,” Matthew spoke. “It is holding them off, maybe an hour or so. Let’s get everyone water, food, maybe rest. There is something powerful coming,” Ajax added.
Seth pulled Sadie into his arms, realizing how weak his mate was. Holding her like a newborn baby, she cuddled in his arms, feeling his strength. His bare chest had no scratches, just the b***d of his enemies. “Love, you need to rest,” Sadie didn’t argue. Her head found the crook of his neck, her arms around his body.
“I’m so tired,” she whined. “We can’t give up yet.” Seth held her tighter, while looking for Mia. Mia was holding onto Marco. A few scratches on his chest were healing. The genetics he shared with Mia gave him alpha healing powers so he could have continued to fight.
“We are alright,” Mia mind-linked her father. “Your stare is insufferable.” Seth smiled at his daughter across the courtyard. “He is coming. I heard from the other sorcerers they feel a large magical presence.” Seth continued to stare at his daughter.
Mia looked so much like her mother, small but also curvy. He loved that his family had all shapes, sizes, as well as different ambitions. He thought of Evelyn, who was still back in Bergarian with her mate Max, taking care of the kingdom they will inherit one day.
‘I hope they are alright,’ he thought to himself. Sadie shuttered in his arms. Her eyes were closed as her fingers held onto his hair that he had grown out. Her body wanted to sink into his. It gave him great pleasure to see his mate sleeping, to know she was alright. The sweet reassurances she sent him through the mind link as he battled only made him fight harder, stronger, faster for her. He didn’t have to worry as much. Sadie had proven her self strong many times over the years they had been together.
Bodies were scattered, heads ripped from rogues, body parts laid discarded, and the bodies were at angles that should not be possible. Seth knew this battle would be difficult, especially with inexperience the Red Moon pack provided, but he fully trusted his men. They had proved worthy in his eyes. Mia and Marco had kept the rigorous training Seth left behind for them to follow. Marco, being the one to take charge of most of the training, did well. His friend of over a hundred years had been most trustworthy.
Besides the side scuffles with Marco being his daughter’s mate, he loved him like his own brother.
Seth sat on the pack house steps. Men and women sat on nearby benches. No one dared move the bodies, taking rest instead of readying themselves. Seth didn’t blame him, he didn’t order for it. They would fight around the mess. Then again, Caspian had different ideas. Caspian’s natural willingness to jump into battle was fleeting. His mind was racing along with Seth’s as to why he would feel such a way.
Seth leaned back into the tree, holding his mate while she recovered. Matthew and Ajax ran towards Seth, both with worried faces. “Your highness, we felt your sons’ presence at the northern border. We can open the ward. We just cannot feel Trinity,” Ajax spat out quickly. “Do we let them proceed?” Seth brushed a stray hair from Sadie. If Sadie was awake she would immediately jump up and say yes, yet they were dealing with a Kitsune, they weren’t sure what to expect.
“Open it up, just that area.” Matthew nodded his head, concentrating, putting his fingers to his temples. Ajax coughed, turned back to Seth. “There is another vehicle with them,” Seth sighed, running his hand through his shoulder length hair.
“Do it,” Seth stood up, still carrying Sadie. He wouldn’t put her down, come hell or high water, he would shift and fight with her in his arms. She needed to recover, and the bond they shared would have her heal faster. Sadie’s dress, now stained with b***d, rips from the damn rodents, now hung loosely around her. Her body shifted, still gripping on his hair. Seth didn’t care she was pulling the hair from his head, as long as it made her feel secure.
Landon strode from the forest, dragging two bodies behind him, both fully clothed in ripped business suits. They were unconscious, groaning, obviously human. Dropping them into a pile, he grunted, his wolf’s eyes eyeing the two humans. “Get those two tied up,” Seth yelled across the courtyard. Marco stood up first, running to listen to his king.
Now Seth waited, watching the old dirt road, ready for his sons to return to him. With Trinity no longer being felt by the sorcerers, fear crept into the back of his mind. If she wasn’t there, was she already captured? Did they leave her behind with vampires?
Once the dingy truck was heard, Seth put his nose into Sadie’s hair and waited for the truck to finally reach the bloodied courtyard.
