(Book 5)- Chapter 18
Trinity’s POV
“Stupid, stupid, stupid,” I kept singing in my head. I had two hot werewolves in my bed, and here I was second-guessing myself. I mean, they did take their pants off, and they did rip my shirt and bra off, no problem. Why the hell was I being so self-conscious at that moment?
“Because of those thick thighs of yours,” my self-defeating conscious told me. “Those thighs that supposedly wrecked any good marriage alliances for your father.” I grit my teeth while holding the furs up my chest. They were both looking at me with such concern, such empathy that I had ever seen in a man.
Then again, the only men I had been around were my father’s bodyguards, and they looked pretty scary. These men, werewolves, held nothing but kindness in their eyes. I needed my thighs to thin out so I wouldn’t be second-guessing my body in front of men that looked like they were carved from stone.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered again, sniffing up any remaining snot that dared to drip from my nose. Theon pulled my legs closer to him and sat my lacy panty butt right on top of him. “Nothing to be sorry about; we are going a bit fast. Of course, you wouldn’t be comfortable with us yet,” Theon pushed a stray hair from my forehead. “We are just used to our nudity; it’s a werewolf thing.”
“I guess you are ri-“I paused, the gears began to turn in my head. “So, have you seen other women naked then?” Both of them had straightened their back in an instant. If this was a cartoon, warning lights would be flashing above their heads that say, “abort, trick question.” I hummed again, putting the palm of my hand under my chin. I giggled again while Thaddeus continued his low, “uhhh,” sound. It was deep, and if it weren’t so funny to watch these big models squirm, I would have found it sexy.
“Well, you see,” Theon began; I chuckled again and pushed his shoulder, being sure to keep the furs close to my breasts. “I kind of figured. Shifter people would lose a lot of clothes, huh?” Both sighed in relief, and I automatically put my head on Theon’s shoulder.
“You guys are used to it, and I’m not; just give me a little time,” I winked at Thaddeus, who was looking utterly defeated. His hand went out, and my hand landed softly in his. “I never realized how big of a difference our cultures are. Maybe you should show me around?” Hopeful smiles curled upwards while I wiggled out of Theon’s lap. They were both dressed in their jeans before I had a chance to look for my clothes.
“Wear this,” Theon ordered. It was a black muscle t-shirt and the black leggings I had on earlier. “That way, all the wolves can smell us on you.”
“So weird,” I mouthed while I pulled on the shirt. The boys cleaned up the food trays while I raced for my suitcase that was in the corner. Wearing a bra was a must because these girls like to get cold, not to mention how my mates’ hands come in contact with my skin. I’d rip through their muscle shirt in no time.
Heading downstairs, Theon and Thaddeus flanked both my sides, just like they did when they were wolves. I couldn’t help but grin at the funny position I was in. I felt like a queen walking down the massive staircase with my two hunky bodyguards with whom I may or may not have had a little sexy time with. Theon’s hand fell to my lower back, and Thaddeus’ large hand interlaced with my fingers while walking outside.
Pack life could be summed up basically how it sounded. Wolves live in packs, and those packs take care of each other. Just like humans, they were social creatures that craved the attention of others. There was also a social hierarchy such as the leader, as an Alpha. Alpha Big Paw was the head guy everyone listened to, and his mate was called a Luna. Every now and then, I saw her waddle around a smaller hut that looked like a yurt you would see in Mongolia. Those rugged dirt huts were substantial and kept out the cold elements.
The packhouse was the main area the unmated wolves lived who wished to live in a more modern home. Thaddeus explained that many wanted to live the way their ancestors had. Still, as time went on, werewolves from other packs traveled here and created their own homes the way they wanted. The homes ranged from the yurts to full-blown cabins and two-story suburban homes. It was undoubtedly a melting pot of a pack with a leader who stuck to his roots.
Alpha Big Paw was Native American. His wife carried a darker skin as well, still uncertain if she was of the same nationality. There were will many different colors, shapes, and sizes to the people walking by. Many you could tell werewolves because their shirts were off coming back from “patrolling the area” or loose-fitting clothing from the women who also walked back excitedly from shifting.
I loved the idea of women being part of the pack, not just in the home but along with the other warriors. They were allowed to train and patrol the area just like the men. They were muscular, healthy, and seemed really happy. The women who carried around babies in their slings also looked genuinely delighted. It was a simple life, and my heartfelt like I could live in a place like this.
“What are you thinking, my little mate?” Wanting to scoff at the little comment, I kept quiet. “Just this place, it’s so amazing. Everyone gets along; they work as a unit,” I sighed. “Everyone looks happy.” Theon hummed while drawing little circles on my back.
“It is, but it isn’t always calm. Sometimes wolves get into arguments, and they have to be resolved by the higher-ups, the Alpha, Beta, or Gamma depending on who wants to handle it. Alpha Big Paw runs a tight pack here, though.”
Watching the children play on a nearby treehouse, Thaddeus pulled me closer to him while Theon growled. Alpha Big Paw had run up to us, and I barely heard his footsteps. Stealthy wolves they are.
“My wife would like to see Trinity,” he breathed. Thaddeus held onto me closer.
“What for?” Theon announced.
“She’s giving birth, and she wants Trinity there to help.” My mouth dropped. I haven’t even spoken five words to this woman, and she wants me to witness her v****a opening the size of a cantaloupe and push out a bloody melon?!
“We just found our mate,” Thaddeus held me tighter. “And unmarked!”
“I know nothing about babies,” I waved my hands out in panic. “I can’t do that; it is just wrong.” My hands almost shook, but Alpha Big Paw didn’t relent. “She has foreseen your aura as a great help to push her through labor, please. She will have my head if I don’t bring you back.”
I whined, “don’t make me,” I whispered to Theon, who only shrugged his shoulders.
“Lenhi is very nice. She’s a witch and draws strength from nature as well other strong women. You are a strong woman, Trinity.” Theon urged me while Thaddeus growled. Even though they were identical twins, Theon and Thaddeus had a different points of view on things.
“Everyone is against me,” I muttered. Alpha Big Paw sighed in relief as I strutted over to him. I couldn’t cause problems; I had to get along since they let me stay here, away from the bears. “I won’t be much help; I don’t know anything about birthing babies or keeping women comfortable.”
“Just your presence will be enough,” his hand went to pat my shoulder, but Theon pulled me away.
“Right,” Alpha Big Paw looked down and moved his head to the side. It reminded me how some animals show their neck as a sign of respect. Why would he do that to Theon? Wasn’t he the Alpha? My strange looks towards them faded as we walked towards the only yurt in the territory. When Lenhi was waddling around it earlier, I thought it might be theirs.
As I approached, my depressing subconscious crept up on me. This was the last place I wanted to be, to watch a baby being born. I wasn’t even sure if I could have children myself. Wrapping my arms around my midsection, I continued forward to the small sounds of windchimes right outside of the fabric door.
“Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome? What the hell does that mean?” My father slammed his hand on the desk. My mother was trying to calm him while I stood in the middle of the room. I felt ashamed, guilty of something I had no control over. There was no diet, magic pill, or miracle treatments that could cure me of this syndrome. It only made my worth that much less to my father, who said my measurements were far from perfect.
“It means she has cysts, tiny knots on her ovaries that cause several different symptoms. It explains her irregular womanly cycles, the pain she has during those times, and even her weight could be affected by it.”
“What about that extra hair, huh? Does that have anything to do with it?” My father spat while I rubbed my upper l*p. I tried my best to keep it waxed, but my father always noticed. I was under the most giant microscope. Every hair, freckle, and pound I was reminded of day after day. Another flaw is a hopeless daughter that will not have him gain any affiliations with those he wanted.
“Possibly,” my mother sighed as she brushed my long hair from my shoulder. “We are treating those symptoms, though. Putting her on birth control to regulate her monthly, laser hair removal,…” mother continued, she was doing this for me. To make me look in a better light with my father, to keep his criticisms at bay.
“Is she fertile at least?” Father growled as he slammed his butt back into the chair. My mother’s mouth twisted in a pucker. My eyebrows furrowed while I pulled on my designer blazer.
“It may be difficult,” she started, but my father threw the lamp across the desk.
“Damnit, Evelyn! Give me numbers!” My mother sighed.
“5% chance.” The room became eerily quiet; it was scarier this way. Father gave me a disgusted look and whispered the words I had longed to hear since the beginning of the conversation.
“Get out.”
…
I gulped down the wad of spit that lumped into my throat. Theon’s hand was still firmly placed at my back when my nose touched the fabric blowing in the wind. Was there any chance that Thaddeus would pull me back, put me in his arms tell me not to go? Thaddeus was definitely possessive; I could feel the heat rolling off of him as he stared down Alpha Big Paw.
“She will be fine; my warriors have the hut surrounded,” his voice was light, far from his familiar scruffy voice. “I swear it on my unborn child,” his arm came across his chest and bowed. Thaddeus huffed and squeezed my hand.
“You yell for us if you feel like you are in danger.”
“Should I be worried?” I glanced at Theon, who only beamed.
“No, Thaddeus, just has a stick up his a*s. Now, go; you will be great.” Theon patted my butt on my right cheek while Thaddeus copied on the left.
I parted the tattered fabric and walked into a haze of incense floating to the top of the roof. I wanted to be that smoke, able to escape this room like it could. The floor was full of wooden mats; on top of those mats were filled with rugs of various sizes and colors. My mind drifted to the documentaries I had watched during my homeschooling days.
Various religions found it appalling to walk into a home filled with rugs of this caliber. They were beautiful, intricate and my muddy shoes would only ruin them. I took both my shoes and socks off, leaving my feet bare to feel the different textures of the rug.
“Don’t be shy,” I heard the meek voice say. It was womanly, calming and I immediately felt that this voice had to be of the Luna. Thaddeus commented that the Luna was the mother of the pack, and that is what she felt like, a Luna. Despite being in labor and expecting a baby at any moment, she beckoned me with such sincerity, it gripped my soul.
A few steps inward, I found her lying on a soft mat on the ground. The room was scarcely furnished, and it made me worry if they actually lived in this thing. “We don’t live here; this is where I work. I find it calming, soothing, and reminds me how my own mother had my siblings and me.”
A bowl of water with a cloth hanging on the side sat next to her. Her eyes glanced to it, almost telling me to come closer. Dipping the material in the cool water, I wrung it out so the extra droplets wouldn’t drop in her eyes. Placing it on her forehead, she sighed while rubbing her stomach.
Maybe this won’t be so bad.
Lenhi grabbed my hand suddenly and squeezed until I could no longer feel my fingers.
Okay, it was going to be bad.
