(Book 4)- Chapter 16
Gwen’s POV
I dreamed nothing but beautiful images as I felt Hades’ arms wrapped around me tightly. Once I had explained all those horrible nightmares, my body instantly felt weak. I was tired of being the weak one, I wanted to be strong, but my body felt like large weights were pulling my body to the center of the Earth.
Hades and all his friends were these strong and ruthless people. They could rip people in half with just their bodies, and I’m this dainty girl that can barely hold her eyes open. It made me mad, but what else could I do?
Take the IV therapy, the medicines, and hope for the best? Ugh, the thought infuriated me. As long as Hades was around, I felt much better; the pull to him was strong like I was meant to be with him, or was it just because I saw him as my rescuer?
Every k**s on the cheek or the forehead threw sparks across my skin, and I craved for more; I just didn’t know what. Just being with him was enough, but there was always that next step my body wanted to take.
Slowly coming out of my dream state, I could feel Hades cradling me in his arms. All I could hear was his deep breathing and maybe the faint hint of his heart. I instantly wanted to wrap my arms around his neck until I felt those familiar sparks touch my forehead. My inner girl screamed violently as I felt the sparks spread through my body.
The faint hint of someone tickling my cheek did the same as I laid completely still until I felt the heat of his face so close to mine. Fear of missing anything more, I fluttered my eyes open to see a startled Hades as his face hovered mere centimeters from my face.
I didn’t feel uncomfortable or disheartened at the proximity of his face; in fact, I enjoyed it. Smiling at him, I cupped his cheek with my hand, and he closed his eyes and gave a large sigh. I’d never been kissed before, and I wasn’t sure if I was even doing any of this right.
Wait, did he want to k**s me? Maybe he didn’t and was checking to see if I was breathing? Heaven’s what do I do? I should go bold, lean in a bit? Is that right?
I leaned in just a little; his lips lightly touched mine as I closed my eyes. I knew that much; keep your eyes closed to savor it and not look completely weird. However, this felt more natural than I thought; it wasn’t awkward at all.
Hades leaned in further, planting his lips on mine. A whole firework show was happening on my lips, and it tingled all the way to my toes. I raised my other hand to cup the other side of his face while he held me up by my back. His other hand went around the back of my neck, and there was no backing out now; he had complete control of the k**s.
It was slow, tedious as he pecked my lips a few times as he eased off a bit; I looked at him half hooded. “Just follow me,” he whispered as he went in again. His lips began to move as I followed his lead. They danced across each other. His lips were warm, and his lips began to press mine harder. I couldn’t help but let out a little sigh until he had me straddle him in his chair.
My breath hitched at our seating position, but he kept a firm hand on my neck, keeping me in place. His tongue tickled my l*p, and I leaned back just a bit to catch a breath. “Part your lips for me, angel,” Hades’ breath was husky as his other hand rubbed my back. Leaning back in, he tickled my l*p again as I opened my mouth to feel his tongue slide in.
The sparks made tingles dip between my thighs, a feeling of excitement I had never felt before as he continued to explore my mouth with his. A bit louder sigh, more like a m**n, escaped me, and it only encouraged Hades to grip me tighter. A growl rumbled in his chest as the k**s deepened, it was passionate and hungry, and I didn’t know which one I wanted more.
Melting into him would feel like heaven; my body instinctively pushed into his chest as my arms went around his neck, and he pulled me closer. There was no space between us, and I still craved for more. I had never taken drugs, but he was quickly becoming my addiction, my drug. “Gwen,” he whispered as I felt his chest muscles harden.
There was a subtle knock at the door that burst open, and I tore my lips from Hades. Turning around revealed Hermes and Ares both with their mouths open. My face flushed with embarrassment as I tried to turn around, but Hades gripped my thighs tighter to keep me in place. Looking at him, he could see I was extremely uncomfortable, and he pulled my head to the crook of this neck.
“What do you two idiots want?” Hades strained his voice. If I wasn’t in the room, he surely would have had a few more choice words.
“Niko said to meet here and discuss what he found.” Hade’s jaw ticked as his hand went to cup my face.
“Angel, I have to work on some things,” he spoke gently, looking into my eyes. “I would very much like to continue this later.” I bashfully smiled and looked away. Pulling my chin back to look at him, he pecked my lips. “Cerberus should just be outside the door; how about you go wander around the house for a bit? The library isn’t too far.” I grinned and gave him another peck on the lips and did a walk of shame around Ares and Hermes, both still staring at me like I had another head poking out of my shoulder.
Hades’ POV
Gwen shut the door behind her and scurried off with Cerebrus. My eyes glared harshly at these two idiots before me. They should be punished for their misdeed of interrupting something so precious.
Her mouth, Kronos it was terrific. Warm, inviting, and every cliche thing I could think of. I wanted to suck that bottom l*p until it bled. It tasted so good. Ice cream, she tasted like strawberries and vanilla ice cream. It was her first k**s; it had to be, she was so shocked when I finally pecked her lips she didn’t know what to do.
Massaging her lips with mine, she got the idea quickly, and she was a damn pro. Made just for me she was, Selene was right; as much as I didn’t want to admit, she was a matchmaker and a pro at that.
Growling, I let them know my disproval as they both slowly sat down. They were waiting to see if I destroy the room, which has happened way too many times recently. I ran my hand through my hair roughly as I slammed my hand down.
“Well, get on with it!” The quicker this is done, the quicker I could go back to my mate. Gwen, my mate.
Niko hustled into the room, feeling the looming darkness seeping from my body; I could feel the smoke coming from my pores. Niko went to the desk and threw down a picture of Selene; everyone in the room looked at each other in confusion as I raised a brow.
“She’s missing,” Niko breathed heavily. Hermes jolted up from his chair, and he was the messenger god, the god of rumors; how the hell didn’t he know?
“I’ll be back!” Hermes was gone in a blink of an eye. Ares continued to look like a damn baboon looking between Niko and me.
“This is what you wanted to tell me?” Niko furiously shook his head.
“No, I just found this out, but Selene hasn’t been seen in over a week, and it isn’t like her. She always has meetings with demi-gods and Zeus. No one is supposed to know; the angel Irine, the keeper of Zeus and Hera’s schedules, told me she had missed a series of meetings with Hera over the past few days. It accidentally slipped while I was interviewing her about Nova about why he was even at the club. The warrior angels, as well as werewolf trackers, are now involved in the search. They have teamed up to find her reporting foul play. Her home was ransacked, and her sphere of souls has been taken.”
The Sphere of Souls was Selene’s way of pinpointing specific characteristics of souls that would make a good match. Selene has the final say if souls should be matched, but the Sphere of Souls cut her time in half. No one can even use the sphere without Selene; she created it herself and can only be unlocked by her own heart’s rhythmic patterns. The kidnapper must have realized this and grabbed Selene along with it.
“As much as this is upsetting about Selene, I’m worried about Nova. What did Irine say about Nova being on Earth and in that club?” Niko stood back up and pulled on his collar.
“I know you don’t want to hear this, my Lord. But..” Niko paused again and started to back up as I stood up slowly.
“Spit. It. Out.” I growled.
“Nova is Persephone’s mate,” Niko rushed as my eyes widened. I never did get a good look at the angel that took Persephone, and I was too busy lighting s**t on fire. “He wanted to buy your mate too, Irine didn’t know why but I think we both know what it looks like.” Niko’s face paled as my human complexion started to melt from my face. Losing myself and complete control of myself wasn’t something I did very often but the words slipping from this demon’s mouth had me seething. I could feel my black hair slip and my bright blonde hair flow to my shoulders. The darkened skin complexion lightened instantly, and the imperfections slid from my body.
My tattoos stayed in place as I pulled Niko up by the throat. Ares came to me but backed up as soon as I held up my hand to stop him. My black robes pooled around me as my bare feet gripped the floor.
“Explain,” I hissed.
“Think about it, Nova wanted to teach you a l-lesson,” Niko started to gasp. “He wanted to keep Gwen away from you for 1000 years so you would feel his pain as he longed for P-persephone.” Niko gasped for air as I let him go. The selfish bastard. It had been 1000 years since she had left, and he is still hell-bent on revenge?
“Does Irine understand this? That Nova tried to steal my mate?”
“I-I don’t think so. Nova was on the schedule to be working on Earth that day, so it doesn’t look out of the ordinary for Nova,” Niko continued to rub his throat while he was piled to the floor. There may be a connection here.
“How did Nova know that Gwen was your mate? Did he kidnap Selene?” Ares stood with his fists clenched. “I’ll kill him. Selene is one of the most precious gods, and he dares mess with the mating processes. We are all still waiting for our mates!” Ares walks to the wall, quickly punching a hole. There was too much testosterone in this room.
I needed Gwen, and I needed her now. Just her presence would help me calm the demon inside me. Taking a large breath, my hair quickly returned to black, my skin tanned, and clothing in its proper attire of dark jeans and a black shirt.
“Niko, you need to go back. Put some feelers out on Nova again. I’ll have my secretary set up a meeting with Zeus, and I don’t care if we aren’t supposed to know about Selene being missing. It now has us involved with too many connections pointing to Nova and Selene’s disappearance as well as a motive to capture Gwen.” The only way Nova would have known Gwen was my mate would be to ask Selene herself, and she would never rat out a pairing. Niko nodded quickly and excited the room as I was left with Ares, staring at a damn hole in the wall.
“Are you done, Ares?” Ares could be a bit of a monkey at times, hell, even like The Hulk. He wanted to smash, break, kill and rage war on any country or person that looked at him funny, but there was one thing about him that not many knew. He had a heart, and he wanted a mate. Doing every woman that graced his presence over the centuries had torn him from inside out. Now he just lifts and answers the prayers to wolf packs for strength, often joining them.
Ares nodded his head and turned; his scarred face was on display. No longer the playboy smirk that laid on his lips, just his true form of battle reminders. “We’ll get to the bottom of this, Ares.” I patted his shoulder in comfort, something I usually didn’t do, and he gave a twitch of a smile. Walking out the door to find Gwen, I hear Cerberus in my head.
“Master, we’ve got trouble.”
