(Book 2)- Chapter 6
Jack
I stormed into my hotel and started to pull at my tie. The humans around this city are filthy. Always grumbling about money and how many women they want to take to bed with them. I can’t say that all Werewolves are any different in their desires, but it was just sickening to me.
On top of everything else I have to deal with in this city, my Beta, Keith, informs me of an active hacker trying to infiltrate our network. f*****g perfect. Our business typically just handles security on the physical level, such as bodyguards, but lately, we have been trying to get into the technical side. It has been proven difficult just because Werewolves are more physical beings instead of cyber. It will be a great business adventure once we get it off the ground.
I headed towards the elevator, and I caught a wiff of something insanely delicious. I could almost taste the vanilla and cinnamon on my tongue. I rushed past Jeremy that was holding open the doors for me. In my crazed state, I didn’t even tell him hello.
Taking long strides after exiting the elevator, I only realized the smell grew stronger the closer I got to my suite. I knew Keith was in there; I could smell him too. My Wolf started to huff with violence. He better not have touched anything of mine. This smell was too appetizing, and I was almost sure my mate was in the other room.
Barging in the door, I see Keith pacing back and forth in the living room, marching right up to him, grabbing him by the neck, and leading him to the sitting room. “Are you f*****g someone in here?” I demanded. My breath was uneven, and my nostrils were flaring. This wasn’t like me; I was a fearless leader but one of the more level-headed alphas in the country. Losing my head over this was going to create some waves.
“No, no, Alpha!” Keith started waving his hands and putting them on my wrists. “There is a computer nerd taking care of a hacker that is trying to get in the system. I didn’t touch her, I swear!” I grunted and put him down.
“Sorry, Sampson is on edge, and I’m having trouble controlling him,” I growled out.
“Alpha, have you seen her? Is she your mate?” he asked excitedly. “It’s a she? The person working in the next room?” I question excitedly. I had been looking for my mate for years; I was a bit older, in fact, a lot older. Werewolves weren’t mortal, and we could live for hundreds of years. I was 145 and still had not found my mate. I have to admit that it had been difficult to rule a pack all on my own. My mother helped a bit, but she could only do so much. An Alpha needed his mate to help keep a level head.“Yes, her name is Rosalie Pierce; she does an after-hours computer tech business. She’s in there right now trying to find the hacker.
“s**t!” I said, and I walked into the other room. “She is human?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
There she was, under the light of the desk lamp, my mate hunched over a computer screen with her computer glasses on. The thick-rimmed glasses reflected the computer screen, so I couldn’t get a great look into her eyes. I could hear the Linkin’ Park in her earbuds as she continued to type away on the computer.
Her hair was strawberry blonde and curled at the ends, giving her an innocent and appealing look. The trench coat she was wearing let me know she wasn’t planning on coming here, and the shoes she wore made me think she was going to a party. As she was biting her plump l*p between her teeth, her phone rang.
Not being aware that I was staring at her, she quickly picked up a phone I hadn’t seen in ages. A flip phone. “Lee Pierce,” she spoke softly with a firm notion in her voice. Her voice sounded like honey dripping from her mouth, so sweet and intoxicating. “Yes Amanda, I will be there. Give me an hour tops,” she replied, annoyed. I knew Amanda; I could recognize her voice on the other side of the call. Rosalie has more Werewolf friends than she realizes. She hung up the call and began to chew on her bottom l*p again as she pounded the keyboard with her fingers.
Her fingers were so delicate as she touched each key swiftly and effectively. I couldn’t help but come closer to her, like an actual wolf stalking its prey. I reached the desk, and she still didn’t notice my presence, but I could feel Keith just beside me. Sampson must be trying to take over because Keith put his hand on my shoulder and shook his head gently. I was getting impatient; I wanted to see my dear mate’s face.
I tapped on the desk a few times, causing her to come out of her daze. She looked up at me with her large doe eyes as she took off her glasses. Her headphones were quickly taken out from her ears, and she looked deep into my eyes. It felt like eternity having her look at me. I tried to memorize every little freckle on her tiny face. I knew she could feel something, but she quickly pulled away when she heard Keith clear his throat. What a d**k.
“How is it coming, Lee,” Keith spoke. With a few more taps of the computer, she quickly slung the laptop around and showed she had not only stopped the hacking but found a name and picture of the guy who was trying to get into our funds. We knew it was him all along––well as soon as we knew we were being hacked––but having the physical evidence was all the sweeter.
I couldn’t keep my eyes off her, and I knew I was making her uncomfortable, but I couldn’t help it. It took all the restraint I could to not touch her and make her mine just in the other room. Her scent wafted into the air as she flipped her collar out and handed me the picture from the printer of the hacker’s face. Her sweet smile would forever be embedded into my heart.
What surprised me the most was how she charged so little to take down such a high-profile hacker. Alex Ruffo was a skilled Vampire who helped create computer code when computers were first coming into play, and she smacked his screen like he was a bug. She’s a fighter and a humble one, and I craved to know more about her. Though the one thing that struck me as odd was that even though the face in the picture was Alex Ruffo, the IP Address said Derick. Strange.
Rosalie seems closed off; she doesn’t show her emotions show very well. Not to brag, but I have women throwing themselves at me all the time, and she didn’t even falter at my glance. She never looked too long, and she batted her eyelashes at me once. It made me want to chase her, and chase her I would.
“I just charge for what I do, I came to fix it, and I did. No worries. I would suggest you get a better firewall, though. I put a temporary one on there until you can hire some better security,” she stated as she turned to open the door. Her little walk already had me in a trance. Little does she know she is going to be the one that is the head of security. Not only is she my mate, but she will help protect the whole pack with her genius. The goddess truly blessed me with her presence.
I went to shake her hand and immediately felt the sparks across my fingertips. She gave me a quick look and took her hand away, and with a small smile, she left the room. My mate was going to provide me with a chase, and I would enjoy the hunting. The little game of cat and mouse has begun, and I will have her no matter how long it takes.
After she left, I quickly called Amanda; she was a part of my pack who had decided to look in the big city for her mate. She was getting older; she was 45 but still looked at acted like 21, which was the age she decided to settle on when she moved here. The city was a more neutral place, and many of our other pack members moved here to settle for jobs but were always welcome back at the packhouse; in fact, many came home for the weekends.
“Keith, find everything out about Rosalie. I’m going to give a call to Amanda,” I walked back into my office and through my jacket across the desk, opening up my computer that she just had her hands on. The room smelled of her and calmed my beast down to a gentle purr. With a quick dial to Amanda, she picked up the second ring. “Alpha, a pleasure to hear from you. What do I owe the call?” I don’t usually call pack members, typically I just use the mind-link, but knowing she was in public and at a club, I thought this was best.
“You know Rosalie Pierce, dont you?” I said.
“Yes, Alpha, I’m one of her only friends. May I ask why?”
“I need to know more about her, I–” before I could finish my statement, she was squealing in my ear. This girl had a set of pipes.
“Is she your MATE!?!” I could practically hear her jumping up and down in the club.
“That she is,” I smiled. “I take it she is different than others, so I need a quick rundown of what she’s like personality-wise. I’d like to have the upper hand,” I joked.
“Well, she is going to give you a little trouble, Alpha. She’s a secretive one. Like I said, I am one of her only friends, and she has never spoken about her past. Hell, I don’t even know where she lives. She comes to my apartment sometimes, though.” She said out of breath.
“Is she going out with you for your birthday? I saw she had heels on?”
“That she is, Alpha. You were already invited, but I’m guessing you are coming now, right?”
“But of course, I wouldn’t miss it.” I smiled at the phone. “I’ll see you then.”
“Wait, Alpha,” Amanda said quickly. “She’s a shy one. Rosalie hardly ever goes out to clubs and places with a lot of people. She’s doing this for me. Lee is really sweet, just overly cautious as all. Be gentle with her,” Amanda urged with concern.
“I will always be gentle with my mate,” I said, comforting her with a giant grin on my face. “Happy birthday, see you there.” I then cut the call.
“I take it we are going clubbin’ then?” Keith walks out in his dark wash jeans and his black dress-down shirt. The i***t likes the party scene, especially when his mate tags along. She was already at the club. “Yeah, yeah, let’s go. We’ll take the Porsche.” Throwing me the keys, we head to the valet and get in the car to head to the club.

After we arrived, I stayed behind the scenes and just watched my mate. You could tell she was nervous by the way her body moved. She always had her arms wrapped around herself and kept to the sidelines, only allowing herself to sit with a group of Amanda’s friends when she was forced. She made small talk and gave little laughs here and there, but you could tell she was very reserved.
Her eyes never sparkled, and she continued to keep her arms wrapped around her delicate frame. Her arms left her only to drink her Appletini, which seemed to be a favorite. After sitting and rolling her eyes at Grant, the sexist douche of the group, she got up to go dance with Amanda. At first, she looked uncomfortable but finally let the beat of the music take over her body. Once she got over her fear, I thought it was time to make my move.
Her eyes were closed as she swayed back and forth, and I gently put my hand on her h*p, still keeping my distance from her. Tingles started to erupt all over my hands, immediately making me pull her closer to me. She didn’t reject the touch and even leaned back into my torso to feel the wall behind her. Rosalie was already feeling comfortable with me, and my Wolf was howling. I wanted to see how far I could go with her before she turned around or told me to stop.
Nibbling on her shoulder made my lips hot and puffy. I continued to k**s and suck up to her neck, and I could hear quiet m***s drifting from her pouty mouth. She was enjoying this just as much as I was. I smiled into her neck when I felt her pull at the back of my head with her hand. She tugged on my hair, making me g***n. This woman was going to be the death of me, and she didn’t even know who I was. I was about to turn her around until I heard Amanda’s s****m fill the bar area. Rosalie was out of her trance, so I immediately stepped away, not wanting to scare her off.
I backed away and headed back to my group of friends, to which all were staring in shock. “Damn, Alpha, she’s hot!” Eric said lustfully under his breath. I heard it using my Werewolf hearing, and with one swift movement, I pushed him back against the wall. “That is your future Luna, I suggest you watch your tone!” With that, all the Werewolves around us spun their heads so fast they could have fallen off their bodies.
No one thought I would find my Luna, especially not now. It had been so many years I think everyone had began to lose hope. Our pack of 8000 members was always rooting for me, and now that my queen was here, they knew I would never let her go. I just hope I don’t scare her off.
