Her Chosen Love

Chapter 17

Layla's pov

"Move!"

"No, I am staying in my hiding place."

"You have to move."

"No, I don't."

"If you stay, you are cheating."

"Ugh, fine." As soon as I got out from behind the car, I was shot.

"Hey, that's not fair!" I yelled throwing my hands up in the air.

"Told you that you can't beat me," Liam laughed.

"You cheated," I suggested.

"I did not. You just don't want to say that I am better that you."

"Ok, ok. I admit. You may be better than me, but I happen to know someone that can beat you easily," I said smirking.

"Oh, yeah. Who is it then? One of the guys?" He laughed like he had it in the bag, but he was in for a rude awakening.

"No, of course not. It is Charlotte." As soon as I said her name, everyone burst out laughing except Will and me. We both knew how good Char was at Call of Duty, especially since we were usually the ones getting beat.

"How is she going to win?" Liam asked still laughing.

"If I am going against you, I say I will win easily." Charlotte said getting up from the love seat she was sharing with Will. I gave Liam and innocent smile, and handed my remote to my best friend.

It has been two weeks since I first remembered something, and ever since I have gained more and more of my memories. Mostly it is of when I was younger. I get glimpses from Adrian and Aaron, but is was Charlotte, Will, and Liam that I remember most.

"This ought to be interesting."

"Ok, I am done!" Liam yelled throwing down the remote. "How are you this good?"

"Well, Will and his friends play it, so I thought: why not learn so I can embarrass him in front of his friends." Everyone laughed except Will, who crossed his arms and pouted.

"I take it she succeeded," Calvin said to him. This made everyone laugh harder.

"Awww, don't pout," Char cooed, pinching Will's cheeks. With one touch from her, he was back to smiling.

"Let's play a game!" I shouted excitedly.

"What game?"

"Hmmm, I don't know. How about . . . . "

"Truth or dare?" Carter suggested. Everyone agreed and we sat on the floor in a circle. "I'll go first since it was my suggestion."

"Technically I had the idea to play a game, but . . . Ok," I muttered. Carter rolled his eyes and continued to think of who he wanted to ask. Suddenly he popped up and be had an evil grin on his face.

"Charlotte, truth or dare?"

"Ummmm . . . . Truth," she answered hesitantly.

"What is the favorite memory?"

"Favorite memory?" Carter nodded and Char began to think.

"Probably the day Layla, Will, and I met."

"I remember that," I said, happy that I remembered something like that. I couldn't help but laughing at the memory.

"What happened?" Adrian asked.

"Well when we were in probably kindergarten, this boy was messing with me. One day he pushed me down, and Charlotte came to the rescue. She pushed the boy and told him to leave me alone. Of course he didn't listen, and he pushed her to the ground. That is when Will came in. He came and pushed the boy to the ground and said, 'My mama told me you awen't supposed to be mean to giwls. Leawn some mannews.' Back then he could pronounce his r's and always made a 'w' sound when he attempted it." I smiled at the memory and looked up to find everyone staring at me.

I started to fell nervous under their gazes, but Charlotte gave me a reassuring smile that instantly made me relaxed. She was like my anchor. She kept me calm and relaxed on a lot of situations, and I was glad I was remembering her more and more every day.

"Anything new today?" my brother asked.

I shook my head and sighed. "Not yet."

I have heard this question from everyone everyday these past two weeks and usually it was the same answer. Most of my memories come to me in my sleep. When I dream of something, I go to one of the people in the dream to see if it is a memory or not. Most of the times it is, and every time I gain another memory, I feel like I am becoming more of myself again.

Ever since I woke up with no memories, I always feel like I am missing something important. I can tell from everyone's faces that they know the big thing that I am forgetting, but none of them have told me anything. I tried to asked them, but I got the same answer each time: 'You have to remember yourself.' After hearing this sentence about a thousand times, I just didn't ask any more.

Suddenly my thoughts were interrupted by Charlotte and Bella squealing. They jumped up, grabbed my arms, and started dragging me out the room.

"Wait! Where are we going?" I asked. Their faces slacked into shock, and they skidded to a stop.

"Did you even listen to some of the conversation?" Bella asked still shocked.

"Well . . . . "

"Ugh, we're having a party here so we need to go to the mall to the things we need." she explained slowly.

"OMG, you should wear the dress you got a while ago." Charlotte said. "You just need shoes and accessories to match it."

They went back to dragging me out the room when Adrian called out to me. "Promise me you will be careful."

I ripped my hands free and caught myself on the wall as another memory flashed across my mind.

Adrian rushed me downstairs and into a huge room with a lot of people in it. He set me in the seat in front of everyone and stood behind it. "Everyone prepare to fight. Liam take your sister to the safe room and make sure she doesn't get hurt." He nodded and walked towards me.

Adrian grabbed my hand pulling me up then crushed me to him. He pulled away just to crash his lips onto mine and I wrapped my arms around his neck, but he broke it off far too early. "I love you so much. Promise me you will be careful."

"Only if you promise the same thing." I said.

"Of course, love," he said kissing my forehead.

"Adrian if you make it back to me, I will marry you."

"Really?" He asked giving me a huge grin. I nodded and he swung me up and kissed me again. "I am so going to make you Layla Walker," he said pulling away.

"Well don't make me wait too long."

I gasped and tears began forming in my eyes. I looked at Adrian and he looked at me confused, but I couldn't look at him anymore. I had loved him, and he had loved me. I was going to marry him, and I had completely forgotten about it.

"Layla?" I felt him beside me, and I kept my head down.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked lowly.

"Tell you what?"

"That we were supposed to married, that we were in love!" I cried. Everyone looked at me in concern, but Adrian looked shocked and in anguish.

"What did you remember?"

"When I promised to marry you." A tear escaped my eye as I said this, and I quickly wiped it away. "I felt it. The love that we shared. It was so strong."

"I . . . . I didn't want you to feel pressured to love me back." He told me while taking my hands in his.

"Do you hate me?" I asked looking down at our hands.

"Why would I hate you?" He pulled me to his chest as I began to cry.

"Because you still love me, and I hardly remember you." I answered into his chest.

"Layla that isn't your fault," he reassure me, but I just shook my head.

I pulled away from him and looked up at him with tear filled eyes. "I'm sorry." I left him with those words and as soon I was in my room I broke down.

I must have cried myself to sleep because suddenly I felt someone lift me up, and carry me to my bed. I saw who it was and whispered one word.

"Stay."
