Chapter 1282
“Is that so?”
Eviette Robins grew suspicious of Matthew Kings’ sarcastic tone.
“Of course it’s true.” Eviette Robins gathered her courage, her gaze becoming determined. “Matt, we’ve known each other for over a decade. We’ve been through thick and thin together, and you know what I’ve done for you. I don’t understand why you would doubt me!”
Eviette Robins glared at him, disappointment evident in her eyes. She scoffed lightly, lowered her head, reached for the box of cigarettes on the table, took one out, lit it, and took a drag, her red lips gripping the cigarette. “You’ve let me down.”
Matthew Kings stared at the woman sitting across from him, his gaze unwavering, as if searching for some clue on her face. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find anything.
“Let’s hope that’s the case.” Matthew Kings stood up. “I’m still investigating the matter. If I find any connection between you and the truth, Eviette, you should know my character.”
He said.
Eviette Robins didn’t even lift her head, continuing to smoke. But her heart was already in chaos, losing its direction. She knew Matthew Kings too well and couldn’t tolerate any betrayal.
If he discovered the truth, the two of them… would never have a future. “Matthew Kings, you should also know my character!”
Eviette Robins suddenly stood up, slammed the cigarette in her hand onto the table, and said fiercely, “I, Eviette Robins, cannot tolerate anyone’s slander. If you think it was me, then please present evidence, and I will naturally apologize to Veronica Murphy in front of her. Even if I have to kneel, I will have no complaints.”
Her momentum suddenly rose, her voice growing louder. Matthew Kings stared at her, unsure of whom to believe for a moment. He could be certain that Veronica Murphy had lied to him today.
She had been missing all day, and it was evident that she had fallen into the water in this cold winter. Her clothes were already dry, and she had time to contact the outside world, but she chose to send a message to Lanshu.
That was one point.
The second point of doubt was that he was Veronica Murphy’s husband, and after being. together for so long, he knew her character inside out.
Even if she lied, he could see it from a slight facial expression. So, Matthew Kings really didn’t know whom to believe.
“I hope so.”
Matthew Kings withdrew his gaze and walked out of the ward.
“Wait.”
Eviette Robins called out, standing behind him, and asked, ‘Do you still love Veronica Murphy? Are you planning to remarry her?”
The question that had been hidden in her heart all along, she finally mustered the courage to ask. Matthew Kings had never intended to deceive Eviette Robins in the beginning, and now he couldn’t deny it at a time like this.
He replied, “No.”
Hearing his answer, Eviette Robins breathed a sigh of relief.
It’s not true.
It’s not true!
“I have never divorced Roni. She is my wife, and she is the only wife I will ever have in my life!” After pausing for a few seconds, he added.
With these words, Eviette Robins was plunged into an abyss. Matthew Kings walked away, closing the door behind him.
Eviette Robins stood there like a statue for a while, then suddenly sat down on the couch, staring blankly ahead, with Matthew Kings’ words echoing in her mind. “I have never divorced Roni. She is my wife, and she is the only wife I will ever have in my life!”
In other words, Veronica Murphy is his one and only.
“The one and only? Haha.”
Eviette Robins laughed at herself, covering her face with her hand, suddenly feeling like a joke. She had imagined countless scenarios, but she never expected that Matthew Kings would love Veronica Murphy to such an extent.
Before Eviette Robins could dwell on her sadness, there was a knock on the door.
She wiped away the tears on her face with her hand and hurriedly went to the door, opening it. “Matt, why are you back… Melvin?”
